Pros
very impressive air gun

Pros
This gun is spectacular. Eyeholed black birds from 40 yards and is quite powerful. Feels great, very well balanced, and all wood finish is slick. Would recommend for anyone.

Cons
Trigger has too much back too it, but by practicing routine and precise shooting habits its very bareable. I am thinking most who have problems with the scope are not mounting it correctly as I ran into this problem. Use a small level to make sure those rings are on straight.

not a bad deal for a youngster learning to hunt or for planking in the yard

Pros
It's decent price for a .177 combo with wood stock and rubber buttstock; the scope could be better; I was able to zero it in at 20 yards with about 10-12 shots. it was a father's day gift for an older gentlemen who wanted to knock down a few pesky squirrels in his neighborhood.

Cons
it would be better suited for hunting if paired with a bsa optics scope

Pros
A GREAT Value! This air gun has a nice wood stock, is easy to break/load, has dependable accuracy, all you need is an upgraded scope of your choice and you have a hunting machine.

Cons
They could bump up the scope quality, or just sell it without one.

For the money, this is very good value. You can't go wrong with the build quality and overall feel. If you're not a serious competition shooter and want something for keeping the squirrel population in check you won't be disappointed.

Pros
Solid wood stock. I was surprised by the weight, it's heavier than my Winchester model 94 3030. The scope mount is well made and easy to mount. Dialing the scope in only took about 15 shots and it has power. My target was mounted on a 3/4" piece of OSB and the pellets blasted through and into the tree behind. The cocking mechanism is stiff, but feels very well constructed, I don't have any problem cocking it after I realized you have to break the breach open with a swift tap on the barrel first. It's very comfortable to shoot and I didn't have any issues lining up the scope to properly fit my preferred eye distance. I didn't try using iron sights, but the fiber optic sight would be a benefit if I did. Overall, very pleased with the construction and the feel.

Cons
Ugh. The trigger. I know there are mods that can be done to change it and that this is an entry-level gun, but it pulls so hard and has so much travel that it can be difficult to shoot accurately. With practice I'm sure it will be more intuitive, but that is something to keep in mind when sighting the rifle in and shooting. Once you get used to it, this air rifle will make groupings you can cover with a dime at 30 paces, but the hard trigger pull is something that does influence accuracy.

Pros
Great for plinking and small game. Very accurate and reliable, I bought this gun 3 months ago and it’s still as it was when I purchased it.

I bought the Crosman Optimus .22 cal after reading many favorable reviews and bought it from Air Gun Depot after seeing many positive reviews. The rifle has a great look with the wood stock and all the parts were fit and finished very well. I mounted the scope that came with it after running around 100 pellets through it using iron sights. After mounting the scope and working with it and running around another 100 pellets through it the pellets were all over the target. I tightened the scope up and in just a short time I was putting all shots in the bulls eye, I was able to take the tops off of water bottles at 20 and 25 yard with the first try. I'm waiting on a scope upgrade and will use lock tight on the screws as suggested in a lot of post. After running around 250 pellets through it as suggested by the manufacture and making sure the scope isn't moving around it became a tack driver. Very pleased with this rifle and the service from Air Gun Depot, this won't be my last purchase. I would suggest this rifle and Air Gun Depot to family and friends.

Pros
Great wood stock Fiber optic front and rear sights Very accurate Hard hitting

Cons
Long trigger put but can be easily fixed with a RC bearing and U tube. Scope isn't bad but for me anything beyond 25 yard I prefer more magnification.

After months of use I have to say that the rifle has a good weight. It is a hard kiking rifle. Do to the hard kick i have gone thru 2 scopes. I just installed a Hawke HD 4x32
to it. I hope it holds on to the powerfull kick. The kick makes the rifle a challenge to be accurate. By accurate I mean to hit the bulls eye on targets at 75 feet away. I am hitting the bulls eye at that distance. The rifle is set within 1" kill zone. The max. range to shoot pray would be around 105 feet. Zero it at 25yrds. This rifle kills pigeons and chicken with authority. Rifle is well made. It is easy to dissasemble and clean. The trigger can be improved to be lighter in the pull. There is a fix on you tube. Adding a heavy muzzle to it would help accuracy and muzzle lift when you fire. Archer Airgun sells one for 15mm barrel diam. I recommend this rifle to anyone.

Pros
Price. Good construction. Knock down power. Easy to dissasemble.

Cons
You have to work on accuracy because of the hard kick. Needs a better scope to handle kick. Trigger a little on the hard side. Shoots 800fps. or less with lead pellets. Max. range is around 105 ft. At this distance pellet has dropped around 3/4". The rifle is not a long range shooter.

asked Francesco from Italy

How many pellets can you load at one time. I'm new to all this do you need the CO2 air cartridge?

asked Harry P from USA

1 pellet at a time. It's a break barrel, noco2 scuba tanks or air pumps

Greg from USA

What weight pellet would you recommend for 177 caliber, for just target shooting? Also does this shoot regular bb's? Thanks

asked Philip from USA

No BB's, pellets only. I like the H&N Baracuda Power .177 Cal, 10.65 gr pellets. I've killed plenty of varmints with it, although I'm not a fan of the scope. It only stays sighted in for about 10 shots.

Ben from USA

I just bought this from another individual and I am having trouble getting it to cock. Any ideas or hits

asked larry wiebel

Hit the barrel sharply to break the breach. Brace it on your left thigh, grip with your left hand under the pivot and smack the barrel with your right hand to break the breach.

How many foot pounds of energy does the crosman optimus .22 cal have?

asked wendi

It varies with the individual gun, but 16ftlbs is probably typical. They can vary +- 2 to 3ftlbs from that. If you're willing to tune it you can pretty much guarantee the higher end of the spectrum and get 18-19.
