Good for daily use
I’ve had this portable charger for about a year and I really like it for charging my phone on the go. I have a newer iPhone and I would say I can get about two full charges from the battery. Sometimes I even plug in a mini fan and it will last for hours.
Biolite Power Bank 80
I took my new Biolite Charge 80 PD Fast USB-C PD Powerbank on a 5 day camping trip to the St. Regis Canoe Area in the Adirondacks this week. Specifically, I wanted to be able to charge my (relatively) new Oticon More hearing aids so I wouldn't miss the loon calls! Also, I had a new Garmin inReach Mini that I wanted to be sure stayed charged up, as well as an iPod, which I used to take photos. The Powerbank exceeded my expectations by charging the hearing aids and iPod every night reliably and hardly made a dent in its capacity. Plus, there's the added benefit of purchasing from a company whose values I support.
Still testing
The product description says "charges to full in 4 hrs by up to 18W USB-C PD" so I purchased a USP-C PD 18W/20W specifically to use with this device. In real time, it took 5 hours 42 minutes to fully charge. That's 1 hour 45 minutes longer than specified. Thus 4 stars. Afterwards I tested it with my phone that has a 5000 mAh battery and I got four charges out of it, as I was hoping. I let my phone drain down to 15% full prior to recharging it with the BioLite. I purchased it to take backpacking, but it's a little heavy at 16.4 oz. I will need to use it long term to see if it remains trouble free.
Awesome charger
Amazing -- charges quite a few devices! It's a tad heavy, but I took this on a 5 day backpacking trip and never had to use my solar panel. It kept two iPhones charged (11 and 13) as well as my SpotX GSP tracker. Only lost 1 bar. A family member said they were able to charge their iPhone nearly 100% more than 5 times. Probably would leave the solar panel at home for future backpacking trips and just take this.
Perfect Travel Support!
I have been using my Charge 80 PD daily for 18 months! I have traveled to Iceland with it & kept our 2 iphones and ipad charged for all the pics and research. I take it camping & it keeps my phone running for 4 days. On my daily charging, by my side, at my convenience. I recharge the 80PD periodically, so it is ready go when needed. A perfect life tool! I have even dropped it on bare concrete from 4+ feet up with no issue (other than my momentary panic & a slight discoloration on near a corner - see pic) I am shopping for a second unit for my wife & and highly recommend these to anyone concidering them!
Big capacity, slow to charge
It has plenty of capacity to charge my Galaxy S22 about 4 times when it's fullt charged, which is exactly what I expected. The problemis the power bank takes forever to charge. It's been 27 hours on a fast charging wall block and it's about 75% full according to the indicator lights. I took it to the Boundary Waters over Memorial Day weekend. I didn't have time to give it a full charge, so I went in to the wilderness with it at about 75%. It only charged my phone about 1 and a half times, so the light indicators seem inaccurate as well.
Stopped working
I have only had it a year, and it stopped working.. used it just a few times and it won’t charge… not great. Not able to return because it’s over a year by just a few days.
Nice tech
Worked great for a 5 day backpacking trip. Helped keep my GPS messenger full, two radios, a light and phone that was being used excessively for photos and still had 3 of 4 bars by the time we made it back. It is a little heavy but honestly, if you're going to be bringing electronics with you that don't use batteries, this is probably worth the weight. I didn't regret having it and will certainly bring it out again.
Good product but worth the extra cost?
I love BioLite products and owns several of their lights and a solar panel. I recently picked up the 80 PD and while it adequately charges my devices, the cost, size and weight seem a bit excessive compared to similar products like Anker's power banks: • Compared to an Anker power bank (also rated around 73 watt hours), the BioLites tend to be 60% higher in cost (at least compared to REIs price) • The BioLites are larger in size (6.7 x 3.2 x 1 in) vs a comparable Anker product (6.5 x 2.3 x 0.9 in) • BioLites are heavier, which I have no idea why, since the batteries inside are likely the same thing (probably six LG 18650 cells) The plastic does seem a bit more rugged than Ankers but dropping any electronic device on a rock could possibly jostle the inner electronics that keep things humming. For travel purposes, when I want to keep things at a minimum, I'm not sure the BioLite is worth it.
False hype
Decided to not buy a cheapy and spend the 80.00 for the biolite quality.but after using this i could of spent half as much n got the same quality..ive only used this a handfull of times and im not impressed.sometimes i only get half of a charge and it shuts down.i only got a couple charges off it also somtimes.it would show 3 bars and i would try charging my samsung a53 then i noticed no juice left and only got like 40% charge on my phone..this happened 3x so far.i wasnt happy about the money i spent.i mean i like to buy quality stuff thats why i bought this instead of buying a cheap 30.00 one online.but now that got the biolite 80.i could saved 40.00 and just went to wallmart.not pleased at all.only got 3 charges tops and it would usually stop when i said 3 bars left n go to nothing leaving me with 40% phone batt. Depressing really
