A solid full day/winter hiking pack

I was looking for a larger day-pack than my 16L one to have enough carrying capacity for full day hikes and winter hiking (more food, layers, gear, etc.) This fits the bill! There are some things that could be improved upon in a future model (see below), but none of these were dealbreakers for me. Overall 4/5, really happy with this pack! - Pros: great size, REALLY comfortable to wear/adjustable, great hip belt pockets (fits my iPhone mini and snacks), hydration reservoir compatible (fit my 2L osprey), pole attachment, clip for keys - Cons: pole attachment features aren’t great (needed an extra bungee to keep them from flopping around), could definitely use some more inner pockets for organization (there’s only the tiny external one and small mesh internal one), could have a lot more daisy chains to make attaching things easy

Great for short torsos. Terrible color transfer.

Absolutely loved wearing this bag. The torso adjustment worked perfectly for my short torso. Giving it only 2 stars because the the dye from the red bag got all over my clothes. I had no choice but to keep wearing it for a week, but ruined two shirts in the process. I will be returning.

Great backpack for shorter hikes

The fit was good and was comfortable to wear. The straps are more flexible so it didn't feel as stiff when I used the hipbelt. It hugged you better which was nice. The hipbelt has a zipper for a phone but mine did not fit (Pixel 7 Pro). It would probably fit smaller phones just fine. The back was comfortable and allowed some airflow. I used mine on a 90degF day (over 100degF feel like) and it wasn't uncomfortable. It's a smaller pack, but has room for the necessities (rain jacket, snacks/meals, first aid kit, water, etc.). There's a separate zipper for your hydration pack with a clip for a Gregory brand pack. Mine was a different brand so I used a carabiner to clip it in without any issues. It comfortably fit a 2L bladder. It also has room for water bottles in the side pockets if more water is needed. The size of the bag also makes it a good travel bag or everyday use bag. The bag had muliple clip points. There's a clip for a hiking stick which was useful. The right strap has a clip for the bladder's tube. I ended up liking that better then clipping it across me which is what I typically do. Overall the bag functioned well and was comfortable to wear for day hikes.

Just the Day Pack I Needed

As far as hiking day packs go, this is a winner. It’s an upgrade from my previous hiking backpack, and I have a feeling it will be on many future adventures with me! Here’s what I like about the Gregory Women’s Maya 20L: - Quality: This pack feels sturdy and durable, and the attention to detail makes it stand out. - Functionality: Easily accessible hydration reservoir? Check. Multiple areas to stash hiking and day adventure essentials—plus room for extra gear, layers, and snacks? Check. A pocket where I can easily reach my phone or other small items? Check. - Comfort: I’m used to a much less supportive backpack that adds weight and doesn’t breathe well. This pack made such a difference. It felt light and secure, and I was noticeably cooler. I could focus more on my hike and less on those little things. - Size: I can be prepared—and even pack some extras!—then put this pack away without it taking up too much room. - Look: It’s simple but streamlined! Here’s what I’d improve: - I really can’t think of anything! This pack exceeded my expectations.

Great day pack for a bit of everything!

etchy back pocket for holding dirty or wet gear. The bladder pocket is also slim and tall and worked as a nice laptop storage option for a weekend trip (probably not what they intended, but it was super handy!). The back panel adjusted easily for a good fit (I’m 5’8”).

Very comfortable straps!

I used this pack for a few different things. First, what it was designed for: a nice long hike (10 miles) in fairly dry climate with elevation, so I needed a lot of water. Hydration was easy with the hydration pack in the back and extra water storage on the sides. Snacks fit in the hip belt pockets for easy accessibility although if you pack them too full you might find you hit them with your arms while walking. This is where this pack really shines - long hikes with some heavier needs like water, snacks, extra layers, etc. It is very comfortable; I particularly like the straps, they just fade away. Second, I used this pack as a city pack to carry my commuter stuff around. It isn't designed for this, but it still worked pretty well. The hydration pack barely fits my 14 inch laptop (without a case), and the hip belt folds nicely against the back of the pack. It's not the most convenient city pack, but it will do the job. Finally, I used this pack as a short hike pack (3 miles) and it worked well for this too. Naturally carrying a lighter load requires less of a pack, but this did just fine. One nice feature I found was that it's pretty easy to clean and the mud and dirt wipes off most of the fabric pretty easily (the mesh was a bit harder to clean, of course) As someone who typically uses much lighter weight packs I should say that this is probably over-engineered for most needs. It is very comfortable, but that comes at the price of being a little heavier than other packs that can carry the same load. That said, it's still very very light. And comfortable.

Just what I was looking for

Tried on many in REI store, couldn’t find what I was looking. Went to REI website and found this hoping it would work. Just came today..it’s perfect! Wanted side pockets on each side that would hold 24 oz water bottles without tipping over, plus pockets are tilted toward my body so easy to get bottles out without taking backpack off. Also love the hip belt, not stiff like some, and I am able to tilt my head back without hitting pack. Lots of compartments and super flexible. For reference I am 5’5” and 128lbs…I ‘m a happy hiker!!

Perfect for us shorties!

I had been using my boyfriends old backpack, not realizing how important in is to be fitted for one properly. It caused my back and shoulders to cramp so bad that it made the hikes unbearable. I ent in to REI and got fitted with this backpack and haven’t had a cramp since! I am 5’2” and luckily Gregory makes a pack in XS that fits my frame perfectly - it’s amazing how much difference this makes. I also like the color and pockets on this pack. The outside mesh pocket is great for throwing in garments I shed as I hike. The big pocket can hold my collapsible Lekki poles and a whole lot more (I don’t like carrying them on the outside). It has pockets on either side and on each hip pad. This pack I comfortable and lets my back breathe.

Adjustable fit is spot on. Pockets not so much.

Love the fit! The adjustable torso length (with Velcro) is great. I was able to give myself a custom fit and it was like I didn’t have a pack on at all (weight was where it should be). 4 stars for the skimpy top pocket (barely fit three snacks, no room for a map) and the skimpy inside pocket. With the lack of pockets on the main pack, I also wish the expandable pocket had a tighter cinch closure. I was afraid to put anything small in there for fear of it falling out. The hole that you feed your bladder bite valve through could be a bit bigger too. I wish there had been bright colors. Felt kind of blah as opposed to my other 2 Gregory packs (raspberry and grape).

Exactly what I wanted.

I have been searching for the perfect pack for two years. I wanted something that was comfortable, would hold my phone on the belt, and had side pockets for water bottles. This pack has it all. Using a tall water bottle, I can reach the water bottle without help and replace it without having to ask a friend for help. The pocket on the hip belt is large enough to accommodate my iPhone 13 Pro. These features are hard to find in a pack. Everything else works well. It fits my 5'2", 100 lb body well. I am using the pack for day hikes and it holds my lunch, jacket, and a few other miscellaneous items. If I could change one thing, it would be the color--but I'm getting used to that.
