Poor durability

Very comfortable and versatile but tore on a easy day hike material seems to be too thin. Expensive single use pack

You'll love it or hate it....

So far I've done four short backpacking trips with this backpack. I personally like it a lot, but I think it will be hit or miss for many folks. The weight is quite low for the carrying capacity and suspension system, which is just great. The unique suspension keeps the bag far from your back with a relatively small amount of padded surface area actually against the back, which is very good to keep from building up a sweat. So far I also think it does a good job of transferring weight to the hips and back, but I have yet to carry more than 30lb. The features are pretty minimal but mostly nice. I like the compression system and the roll top, and the rain fly is very well integrated. I like the water bottle pocket on the pack strap. I think the elastic sternum strap should be replaced by a standard strap, even if that came with a little extra weight. At the end of the day, whether this bag works for you will probably depend mostly on your back length. If you have a 19" torso, this will be well sized for you, but it is NOT adjustable.

This pack wears very well, the load is almost unnoticeable. Great ventilation and articulation in the suspension. The metal frame is durable, albeit heavy. Pack bag seems small for a 50/60 l pack, those volumes would only be realized with the bag stuffed completely and not rolled, relying on the zipper for closure. The pack is a joy to carry, and the forward thinking features (pockets, pole holder, etc.) are well designed.

Solid Overall

I really like this pack. However, the first time I used it (26 mile hike), the Active Spine Tech broke. I was able to fix it myself pretty easily but I was definitely surprised at how quickly I ran into an issue.

pretty comfortable suspension system carrying about 40Lbs on a two night trip. But after this first time using it the fabric is looking like it will not hold up well. Lightly used but maybe scraped on the rock putting the pack down and already showing heavy abrasion. Also the compression cord that wraps around the pack just is too small and does not compress the load at all. As tight as you pull the cord it just can't do much. Also near impossible to use the sleeping bag compartment even for a small summer down bag.

Amazing, lightweight Pack!

The Mammut Ducan Spine 50-60 is a pack I purchased for two reasons. First, I was looking for a pack that was well under 4 pounds. Second, I anticipated the independent spine system to help with my back issues when on backpacking trips. The Ducan Spine exceeded all of my expectations. It is a well constructed pack with a wire frame that allows for total independent movement. Where my hips go, my back isn't going along for the ride. This has done wonders for my back. The pack is also sleek and simple, making my tired days easier. Storage is no issue with this bag- the main storage compartment can be broken up into two compartments. I store the "camp" stuff in the bottom and fill the top with my daily essentials. There are also a number of cool little gadgets on this bag, my favorite being the pack cover that's stuffed in a small slit at the base of the pack. My hydration system fits like a glove as well! I couldn't be happier with this pack. While most of my trips are short, I hope to complete 5-7 day trips this coming year. This bag would fit the bill for a weekend as well as a thru hike.
