Sizing Notes

For boots: Add one half size to your street shoe size. You should be able to slip one finger behind your heel when you are standing up with the boot unlaced and your toes touching the front. If the boot is too short, your toes will get smashed walking downhill. Too long and your heel will slide up and down and give you blisters.

Great when new, wear poorly

These boots are amazing fresh out of the box, but that comes with a big caveat. They are my favorite hiking boots (putting Merrill and Keen to shame) when they are brand new, but after about 6 months of everyday wear, I busted a hole in the outside of the right boot (through the leather). I brought them back to REI and the people there were great, giving me a second free pair. Not 4 months later, and I have the same breakage in the same spot. I knew REI would be helpful and possibly give me a third pair, but I decided to put my money back into the “lesser” brands that last me a lot longer. Bummer to see these are almost twice the price of the equivalent Keen boot but last less than half the amount of time before a serious issue.

The KING of hiking boots.

I bought a pair of these boots 3 years ago and have put hundreds and hundreds of hard miles on them. The boots have held up exceptionally well, all the seams are still in intact with only minor cosmetic delamination in areas. Overall I love the boots because they are lightweight, extremely comfortable, have good water resistance yet breathable. Intact, I love these boots so much that I just bought a 2nd pair to replace the first... I've posted pictures to show you what 3 years of hard wear does to the boots! Only replacing them because the soles are flat in areas and I could use a little more grip.

sole wear and resole services

I have been a member or REI for 50 years, live in the mountains of Colorado and hiked/climbed US/Canada/SAmerica, so I humbly have pretty good experience/knowledge of boots. I zeroed in on these after foot surgery for support/protection and have gone through 8 pairs. Wear them every day/all day, in office (doctor). They are comfortable and the uppers wear well. The sole will not last as long as you'd like, and is slick on most water covered surfaces, like my tile kitchen when I mop it. Lastly, they might be be resoleable, but the shops recommended by La Sportiva minimally want $250 for the service, not including shipping. Whether they are financially worth it, your call.

Excellent boots for day hikes and trail walking

These boots fit superbly, so the entire foot is snug with no rubbing or loose spots. The boots are well designed to protect the feet and ankles during hiking, even on rough trails. I have found the boots are consistently waterproof, even in very wet conditions. The soles work great on slippery trails, since they have good grip without being too luggy. The grip pattern also allows mud to fall out, so the soles don't hold on to mud and debris. These are to me an outstanding midweight hiking boot, suitable for cool to warm weather on easy to difficult hiking trails, or for general walking.

Disappointed

For the first few days of wearing them, I was pretty happy with them. My wife and I walk allot usually 3 to 5 miles per day. So I can wear out a pair of boots in about 6 months, sometimes faster if the boot isn’t up to the standard I set for it. LaSportiva line has been a favorite, dependable mostly 4-5 star categories. This boot was in that direction but within a week it was toast, the right foot boot was collapsing at the outside heal. It seems like it would be a manufacturing issue but I returned the boots after a week extremely disappointed.

Avoid these for the Appalachian trail!!

Fell apart within weeks. I bought these bc i have a hard time finding shoes that fit. I have really wide feet and wanted something durable for my thru hike of the Appalachian trail. The 1st pair i had started splitting at the sole and upper portion within the 1st month. So had to contact REI customer service and they were great and since i was on trail i had to purchase a 2nd pair and was given a UPS label to ship to return center. The 2nd pair got a hole within the 1st 2 weeks. And continued to deteriorate rapidly but was stuck with them until i could get to a store to find alternative footwear. By time I got to a physical store they had a 6 inch tear in one boot and the other had a 4 inch portion seperating from the sole and upper. For a company(La Sportiva) sponsoring John Kelly for a fastest known attempt of the Appalachian trail. Their footwear is woefully inadequate for durability. Both pair started leaking within weeks, the eyelets tore the laces up. I went through 3 pairs of replacement laces on the 1st pair and 2 pairs of replacement laces on the 2nd pair. If youre doing any type of thru hike I'd advise you to look at other brands

Great Quality, Excellent Light Weight Hiking Boot.

This is a great hiking boot. I was really impressed by the light weight and great ankle support for the weight. They are one of the most comfortable boots I've worn in quite some time. I was surprised at the light weight initially but was even more impressed by the cushion for the foot this boot has. It might be one of the most comfortable boots I've ever worn. I am a die hard fan of Scarpa, but I decided to try these out since they were on sale. I tried them on in the store which is probably why I decided to buy them. The cushion under the pad of my foot was amazing. I will find out this weekend how well they do on a small hike. I usually like to wear them a few days to work just to work out any potential sore spots that can occur with new boots. So far I have had no issues at all. If they hold up over time like my Scarpas do, I might have another brand that will works its way into the rotation.

Disappointing

Purchased ahead of an extended trip through half-a-dozen national parks this summer. Within two weeks of purchase, without significant use and enroute to our first park, one of the ankle support lacing eyelets completely broke free from the upper. This is exceptionally disappointing from a brand I’ve previously trusted implicitly. Fortunately I was able to find a substitute hiking boot of a different at a general store on our journey. I’ll be returning these when we get closer to an REI location.

Great waterproof boots that are really water proof

Outstanding boots. Hike mostly in the Rocky Mountains and Utah around 25 miles a year. Dedicated to wearing LaSportiva trail running shoes for all hiking. Have not worn boots in years. Kilimanjaro outfitter strongly, strongly encouraged boots. Sage advice. Out of the box were comfortable with the LaSportiva fit and feel. On the climb after three straight days of rain my feet were the only thing dry. Will last many miles. Only slight criticism is the grip is very good but not great. Would give a 4.8 if possible because of the grip. Even so, highly recommend.

Great Investment!

I bought these for an upcoming 20 mile hiking event and pleased to say I made the right choice! After two weeks of trying so many different hiking boots, I decided on these because they had the best cushioning and waterproof. I had to immediately swap out the insoles with special ones for my Planter Fasciitis. The tread did very well for the terrain I was in! After 20 miles, in 10 hours, enduring steep inclines, thick mudslides, ponds, streams, etc., my feet and socks were still completely dry! Only two blisters but after 20 miles that’s to be expected.
