This product is well intentioned but misses the mark. It’s heavy and clunky and barely collapsible, not a good piece of gear for hiking. The lid is too shallow to be used as a bowl for food or water. Just another piece of plastic, Tupperware would work just as well or better .

Great idea, but bulky and awkward

I was very excited about this bowl and wanted to love it. After all, the idea of having a threaded lid on a collapsible dog bowl is simple, yet genius for all the times that the pooch leaves food or water behind. The good: the leakproof top is great and it's secure when closed. The bad: I should have paid more attention to the size and weight. This thing is large even when it's collapsed and it's heavy. When extended, it's way taller than necessary for a dog bowl (my lanky 30 lb dog can't reach the bottom without collapsing the bowl with her face), which means that I won't ever use that extra space... so for all intensive functional purposes, I just bought a bowl that is heavy, doesn't collapse, and has all kinds of awkward folds, nooks, and crannies that will be hard to clean out. The notched base to fit the top when in use helps to not misplace the top, except when the dog is done, the threading in the top will have gathered dirt and crud , which will then be dumped into the bowl when you close it. Not only will I not use this for hiking/backpacking (the original goal), I won't carry it around town either because it's so heavy, large, and awkward. Given how much I paid, flat rate shipping for returns simply isn't worth it; so I'll keep this, and hopefully with time I'll learn to like it or find another use for it. I'm headed back to getting a replacement Kurgo. I wish I had just stuck with that.

The Best Hiking Dog Bowl

I was given this product by Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. We used the dog travel bowl when hiking Colorado 14ers , alpine lakes, and paddle boarding. On some of these longer and hotter hikes this bowl is amazing for conserving water throughout the hike with no leakage. The twist top feature for the lid of the bowl was easy to take on and off when I needed to hydrate my dog throughout the trail. Being able to not have to pour out and waste water for my golden retriever is a huge advantage for us. This is an awesome bowl not only from a hydration standpoint, but from a weight standpoint as well because we are having to carry much less water since now we are containing leftover water and not pouring it out. This is a super durable bowl that we just clip to the back of our bags to conserve space in our bag and use it to either store water or dog food. This bowl was bigger and bulkier than I expected even when it’s collapsed with dimensions of roughly 6.5 inches wide by 3.5 inches tall and 6.5 inches by 6.5 inches when fully extended. All in all I would highly recommend this bowl for any hiking or camping you do with your dog. This has been added to our dog essentials list when we go outdoors and head out on the trails.

We brought this camping this past weekend and it was sweet for car camping. We're always having to dump the water from our dogs' water bowls as we move from campsite to trail so it doesn't spill in the car and this was a great water vessel that doesn't spill.
