I bought these for my GF for a 4 day hike in the Rocky Mountains in May. She raved about them and continued to note how comfortable they were during the trip. We went through a few ankle deep streams, snow with some added micro spikes, and then heavy rocks. Through all the terrain they had strong traction and grip. They didn’t cause any hot spots or blisters and she ended up wearing them out a few days for in town walking around. They didn’t have any noticeable damage, in fact the rubber toe cap helped her out a couple times. The durability over the 10- 14 mile daily hikes was fantastic and she never had any issues.

The Boots you buy when you can't get the shoes any more

I loved the X Ultra 3 shoe and was devastated when they were not made any more. I chose to try the boot and bought a size bigger as I read that they were made smaller than the shoe, which proved to be correct. The boots fit well and my feet love them, my ankles are taking a while to adjust to the tightness needed around them.

I own exact same model purchased at REI 3 years ago. Super comfortable, the best hiking shoes. Because Salomon discontinued it and REI no longer sells it, I searched high and low for exact same model and ordered from Backcountry. It does not fit like Salomon X Ultra Mid 3. It fits like leftovers from some shady factory that would not have passed quality control by Salomon. The toebox is much narrower than should be, the length is a bit shorter than normal size 7, the shoe bends uncomfortably when walking right where the toes start. The laces are shorter too so it's difficult to tie. I'm wondering if these are the "2nd tier" product similar to those made for "outlets" with lower quality.

Cant be beat

these are great, no need to break in and i have never had a blister even walking more than 30km per day over mixed terrain. its real shame Salamon dont make them any more as the Mid 4's are no where as good.

I love these boots. Very comfortable on my narrow foot and very waterproof. Please keep this design.

My favourites

I wore my last pair of X ultra mid GTX for 7 years, well beyond the point they should have been replaced, but I loved them so much! When the sole finally completely wore through, I relented and bought these. I am happy to report that on their first wear, 15km of rocky, icy, rough tracks, they were absolutely faultless. I am disappointed salomon have changed the design of the latest iteration, and will probably wear these for the next 7 years!

I have 2 pairs of these boots which I LOVE, I ordered new ones in the same size. The new ones I ordered are the same size I have been wearing for 4 years. The new boots are much larger. I have been wearing the size 8 for years so I ordered a size eight and they are way longer when I compare them to my current size 8 boots.

Very comfortable boot and didn’t need to break them in. I had a 15 yr old pair of Salomon hiking boots that needed to be replaced.

Light and quick to break in to

The moulded soles took a day to get used to after wearing them around in the house. Has been great ever since. Does the job in keeping my feet dry on walks when it’s been raining. They’re light and comfortable.
