well, it works...!
Total impulse buy at the check-out line and since I live in an urban environment I didn't think anyone would appreciate me giving it a good solid blow to test it out, but fortunately a friend thought that was a brilliant idea and scared the wits out of me. So I can tell you, it works. Car alarms are white noise to people now, so I keep this on my key chain when I'm walking. You never know. And those metal whistles were driving me crazy, this is much better and lighter.
Loud
I got lost and my phone had no service . It was getting late and I was getting anxious. Last resort I had was to blow this whistle. A jeep who was mudding heard the whistle and followed the sound. I was found.
Whistles May Keep Friends Alive
I've given these out to a couple of friends, and so far none of them have died, so it must be the whistles.
Scars Bear
After doing all the stuff you're supposed to do like waving your arm and speaking loudly a bear just off the trail was not budging to let us by. Then I remembered the whistle hanging off my pack and gave three loud blasts. He got the message and left the area.
Good, cheap addition to hiking safety
Years ago, I read that every hiker should carry a whistle. If lost, it’s much easier to whistle frequently than yell, and can be used to signal as well. This whistle has some serious range. Without using my strongest breath, it was seriously loud and piercing. I also tried dunking it in water and it still works. It’s clipped onto my pack now.
great to find lost kids in crowded areas
Easy to use. Almost as loud as storm whistles with much less effort. Give to grandkids to use if they run off and get lost or out of sight. Also a good deterrent if you feel in danger for any reason. Attracts attention and scares off the bad guys.
drives the dogs crazy
I can't imagine that this is not loud and sturdy enough for any purpose. I'm 71, hike and backpack solo in northern MN, so it is for emergencies and first line of defense for bears, but I also carry Counter Assault. If you can't get a long, loud blast out this whistle you need to exchange it or see your doctor.
Large, and in charge
Lawd... This thing is big! I also must add... it is incredibly, REMARKABLY LOUD. do yourself a favor, and dont blow full bore on this bad-boy in the house. The cats are still traumatized! But for a rescue whistle, loud is what you want. only 4 stars cuz its bigger than i thought.
LOUD! And Effective
They definitely won't be leaving you in the water or anywhere else once you blow on this whistle! Best one I've used for kayaking, may buy another one for backcountry skiing when winter comes.
Wow!
This is LOUD!!!!! Must have on a hike for those emergencies
