Leaving your air rifle cocked a bit longer while you wait for your prey to become available won't hurt your gun at all since it has no metal mainspring.  The biggest additions to this model are Umarex's ShotShox recoil system designed to cushion the forward and rear thrust of the piston spring.  Additionally, the all-weather synthetic stock has been enhanced for a better cheek weld, thicker pistol grip, and a palm swell on the fore end.

The weight of the rifle requires adding a rifle sling if you want to hike around and hunt with it. At setup, use lock tight on the scope rings and rail mount screws. Otherwise the recoil keeps loosening the optics.

Pros
Plenty of power and accurate.

Cons
Heavy trigger pull,

I'm just a newbie to airguns, but I'm already addicted. I can't believe the accuracy! I'm also amazed at how quiet it is, and how smooth the kickback is. It blasts a 14gr .22 pellet through a 3/4" pine board....I was amazed. I've been practicing with open sights...consistently hitting beer cans at 40m. I put the scope on today, so now we are in a whole new realm. I just love this gun!!

Pros
Everything

Cons
Nothing

Pros
Great gun dead on at 50 yards dime size grouping best air gun I own . If I miss its my fault great power hits with great force wouldn't change a thing on the gun scope great too only thing would have been better is if scope had mill dots .

Cons
Scope needs mill dots !

I tried to contact customer service about my rust problem. No reply. This picture is cleaning pads before the steel wool cleaning.

Pros
After serious cleaning the gun runs great.

Cons
There needs to be a desiccant bag in the box for the slow boat from China trip to control rust.

I am thinking the .22 got taken apart and rehabbed by someone who knew the right moves for this model. How else could you explain dr jekyll and mr hyde?

Pros
Well, i have 2 of these. First one i bought was in .22 caliber and it was from the rebuilt bargain bunker. I got it out of the package and afterthe first 5 shots the safety malfunctioned. Like fell off. Noticed the trigger was wobbly as well, so i adj best i could. I then checked it for zero and it has been an absolute complete rock star hero since then-hits like a ton of bricks- racoons are history with a body shot-it likes the jsb's 14 to 18 grain. Very accurate also, can hit a 2 inch target consistently at 70 yds. I haven't cronoed this one but it shoots a lot harder than my hatsan sniper and that one cronoed at 1150 with the same ammo. The best part of this gun is you can leave it cocked for an extended period of time and it retains almost the same punch as if you were shooting back to back rounds. It's great, always grab this one if i need to get a shot off quickly.

Cons
The .177, came new in the box, paid full retail- trigger was better-ok, it was slightly better, marginally better. The safety works ok. The gun shoots hard for a .177 but it isn't accurate at all. Holds a 8 inch pattern at 40 yards-ew, that's awful. Cleaned the barrel, tried all kinds of ammo-all suck. Gun still shoots hard, tho. I tried a different scope- no better on accuracy. I have tried several times to salvage this one, but so far it's just a gun cabinet resident, unqualified to perform. Sorry umarex- tale of 2 guns, same model. If someone wanted to buy it i would gladly sell it.

Small side covers strip easily but they are not necessary and rifle looks better without it. Make sure to lock tight the barrel/breach screw or it will come loose. Stopshock has a very unusual recoil, u must hold this gun tightly like a powder burner, do not use the artillery hold. Rifle is very heavy and shots great from the bench. Very accurate once u get used to it. The scope is way to powerful for a break barrel, put a cheaper scope in it and save the Umarex scope for a pcp or a .22lr.

Pros
Great stock, comfortable, very nice scope, silencer works great, very quiet. Very accurate once you learn how to shoot it. Excellent value for the money.

Cons
Small side stock covers strip easily, stopshock takes a while to get used to. Cooking is heavy, but this is a magnum rifle. Scope rings are ok.

If you want an air rifle that's perfect out of the box I wouldn't recommend this one. The trigger needs work and it's enough to be a deal breaker, sorry Umarex. I'm calling customer service about the trigger, it might be defective. You also have to pull the safety back towards the trigger to disengage it and that just isn't right but the trigger is so heavy that you aren't going to pull it by accident. The scope is nice and bright and the Stopshox works great. Overall I would love this rifle with a half decent trigger but I have to see if I can get it worked out with Umarex if not I'm gonna have to send it back. This sucker is heavy and it takes some effort to cock it, not for kids. It gets decent velocities. I chronographed it at between 850 and 900 fps with a 18 grain lead pellet and 1166 fps with a 9.9 grain alloy pellet, it hits hard and accurate.

Pros
Nice sights and the scope is decent for the money. Accuracy is good and no need for the artillery hold.

Cons
First and foremost the trigger is horrible with a heavy pull and sharp edges that wears your finger raw. Safety would be a concern with a decent trigger but no worries here.

Is there any bipod that fits this rifle?

asked Raul Andres from Ecuador

Buy a barrel-mount, single-rail Picatinny adapter and put any bipod on it you like. Get a three-way adapter and add lighting and a laser too. Cheap and easy solution.

Bubba from USA

does it ship to California?

asked howard mattox

Yes. I bought this gun, and it shipped to CA, no prob.

Robert from USA

How long does it take to quieten down

asked Calvin

What are the weights of the alloy and lead pellets used to obtain the FPS rating that is quoted in the description?

asked Paul

What is the difference in the octane and the octane elite? Same description.

asked Dano

Ok I'm not seeing it. What is the benefit of the Elite over the cheaper Umarex Octane (scope combo)? The specs look pretty identical. Is it just prettier molding?

asked Brian

Why only the .177 specs? Is everything the same for the .22 except Muzzle Velocity? Length / weights all the same?

asked Brian

How loud is it?

asked Dave

I bought this gun, and I am amazed how quiet it is. Specs say medium, but it sure seems quieter than that.
