Great ride

This is my seventh ebike. I feel that I have some insight. The 11 speed gearing works flawlessly, no adjustment was needed. The brakes have ample stopping power. The Bosch system is too powerful if anything. When operating the motor is quiet. The power is natural feeling on par with Shimano's ebike motor. Predominantly, I use the bike in no assist mode where I get a great training ride. At 5' 11" I found the size large comfortable other than an excessive reach. The seat is appropriate for adventure cycling not so much for city.

This is an absolutely outstanding bike that is a riot to ride. I've been hunting for a do-it-all ebike for several years and I looked at everything from scrambler style mopeds to traditional bikes like this one. While I decided that a gravel bike was the perfect balance of rugged functionality and on-road speed and handling I struggled to find an affordable option that checked all my boxes. Most gravel ebikes are either underpowered, have small batteries, or are expensive and impossible to find (the Giant Revolt E+ Pro was another I looked at). I'm thrilled that I stumbled across this bike! From motor and display to groupset it is an outstanding value and it rides beautifully. I generally get roughly 15 miles in full turbo, 40 miles in tour, and 50+ in eco mode. While it is definitely heavy and sluggish without assistance turned on, it's still very doable - especially on flats. It absolutely flies on the road - I averaged 20mph on an 18 mile ride in tour mode with only an average of 200watts added by me - I'm definitely *not* that fast a cyclist. It was equally capable and fun on some seasonal use roads and modest singletrack. It handles well and the weight is almost unnoticeable when assist is turned on. I would highly recommend this bike as a perfect one bike quiver - it's fast and fun for weekend cycling and comfortable and fast for weekday commuting. As others have noted, it does run a tad large. The geometry is much more akin to my mountain bike than my dedicated road bike. I chatted into Backcountry's customer service who were extremely helpful and I'm very happy with the size Medium I got.

Awesome Bike at a great price point.

after testing the Specialized Creo SL and the Yamaha Urban Rush, I found the Diamondback Current and it sits right in the middle of the other two price wise. I couldn't justify $10,000 for an e-bike from Specialized when I found no real benefits, options or features of it better than the Yamaha, but I did not care for the look of the Yamaha with its battery on the outside of the downtube.. I came across the Diamondback Current looking for a no-name alternative gravel/road e-bike. while I am not found of the color, I quickly got over it when I matched up the specs and the design. I have had the bike for 14 days and have over 200 miles on it now. I started cycle commuting to/from work during the Covid lock downs. At the time I was 430lbs, I started with a fat tire hub drive e-bike and put 30,000 miles on that in 20 months, and lost 230lbs in the process. I am now under 200lbs and cycle commuting has become my primary mode of transportation since 4-2020. I have only put 5,000 miles on my car in the same time frame. This bike is a much different ride over the fat tire (obviously) and I am getting a much better workout. The fat tire accomplished its goal, a big thick bike for a big thick guy. I am now at the point where I don't need the power, the Current is perfect for commuting, allowing me to have pedal assist and power while I am in traffic, so I can maintain the same pace as the vehicles and not irritate them, but also allows me to turn off the assist and pedal it as a normal bike for a better workout when I am on bike paths and trails, and riding with others on acoustic bikes. I got the large, being 6'0" but it is a tad large for me, 56cm would have been better than 58cm, but it is comfortable, I think the medium would have been a bit too small. overall, I think this is fantastic bike. Price and feature wise it sits right in the middle of the market and turned out to be perfect for me. My only issue with the bike is the lack of lighting. Since Bosch had the front and rear lighting connections already built into the mid drive controller, and the cables to run the lights are literally $10 from Bosch, Diamondback would be smart to pre-wire the bike and include a headlight and taillight. While I get that they are marketing his as a gravel bike and not a commuter bike, many people use bikes like this for dual purpose, PLUS lights = safety on or off the trail, lights let others know you are there. All bikes should ALWAYS include lights IMO. you never see a car or motorcycle without them, and in 2022 you should never see a bike without them either.

Awesome commuter bike!

This bike is awesome! About me: I have been a bike commuter for the past 12 years on a non-electric bike and put in about 4-5000k just commuting. I ride a road bike on my free time. I commute rain or shine in Seattle. We just moved so my bike commute got further and wanted a bike to get me to work faster. Pros: It's fast. My commute is 20 miles with 1600' of elevation gain. My average speed this morning was 23.3mph, including stop lights. I push pretty hard, probably around 250-350w, and added to the motor, that's around 550-700w the entire time. That's a lot of watts! The ride is smooth and the tires really dampen the road compared to a 25c roadie tire. It makes the tough Seattle roads more enjoyable. The motor is near silent and the GRX shifting has a very light touch. This thing is a tank. Cons: It's heavy, obviously. Nearing 50lbs, it's not easy to walk up and down stairs, but such is the life with a bike like this. The geometry is very strange. At 5'8" and 140lbs, the size small is still large for me. However, I do like compact road geometry. I wish the stack and reach were less and that the handlebars were narrower, to be more like a road bike. Other: The customer service at Backcountry.com was exemplary. I did several online chats with them to discuss fit, the motor, shipping, etc... They were all great and very helpful. A+!
