too small
I wanted to update my old Lulu bag on something new. But this Patagonia hip pack was disappointment. It's way too small and flimsy. Yes, it's very lightweight and packable, who is going to pack this little thing?... Huge difference in belts, this bag much more thinner. And ALSO I should pay for a return $6. I guess I not going to buy here anything. "thanks"
Small but also perfect
When unfolded this my initial reaction was this is way too small, like some of the other reviewers. Before I returned it, I made myself use it for a day. I am replacing some rando brand one I have that's not ideal for lightweight backpacking. After rocking this for a bit it became obvious that it's more suitable than my initial thought. I started using a waist pack in the backcountry after I had a food spillage in my main pack and was worried a hungry bear was going to want the peanut butter mess in my bag. My thought was I could dunk a waist pack easily if it happens again. But I also can fit three phones, my wallet and some other widgets for a day walking around downtown.
Worth it!
I've been using this product for about 3 years now and it's held up surprisingly well! It's great for fitting a handful of things like my wallet, keys, and a couple of other misc EDC. I often switch between bags depending on what I'm doing for the day and I always enjoy using this hip pack.
Good for everyday use
Like most guys, I used to put my wallet in my pants pocket but I hated the bulge. I got the waist pack to solve that problem and it also is more secure from pickpockets. I travel a lot internationally and this gives me more peace of mind than having all my cash, credit cards, car key and ID easily stolen from my pockets. I move it to the front in more dicey situations. Another benefit is that at sports and concert events that prohibit backpacks, fanny packs, etc., they allow a "clutch" bag and I have successfully gotten this waist pack past security since it's small enough. I've had this for a couple years and it's holding up really well even with daily use.
Shortcuts in new version
Loved this for years but they removed the inner zippered pocket which was great for keeping some items safer. Seems a bit cheaper too, bummer!
It’s a mini pack. Read the dimensions!
Before you buy, you must understand that this is smaller than your run of the mill hip pack. Intentionally so. I bought it to take to The Masters practice round to carry a few small items including a very compact camera, sharpie, etc. It easily carries my iPhone 12 Pro. If you have the larger sized brick (Max) that you need to carry in it, you need a regular sized pack. I love this one because I don’t want to carry 2 lbs on my hip, just a few items for a day hike. It neatly folds into itself to a small size that is easy to pack. Im a male with a 34 inch waist, and I have to extend the belt almost to its limit. so if you are larger than 34, this won’t work for you.
A backpacker's best friend
This lil cutie came to the rescue when I was backpacking in the eastern sierras as my backpack didn't have hip pouches for storage. I was able to hold: iphone 14 pro, 2 macro bars, 2-3 fruit leather strips, energy chews, keys, chapstick, small tube of sunscreen. Made it super easy for me to fuel on the go without taking pack off each time. I also use it while running to the grocery store or on shorter trail runs in the mountains. Pack is easily washed so don't worry about sweating on it :D
Nice idea, but.....
Nice Idea and an ideal (pouch) size, but in true Patagonia fashion, the length of the straps is WAY too short to be used (crossbody) by an athletic adult male. I have a number of friends who use these, and they are all women. Wanted to use this while recovering from shoulder surgery as a bag for walks, but the straps are just too short to make it even remotely comfortable. As native of Ventura, CA, I go way back with Patagonia and sizing has always been a big (pun) issue. This is one mistake they could have easily avoided, as it seems quite simple, and the bag has the potential to be a great go to for local jaunts, unless......
it's very cool and comfortable !!
I bought this hip pack for my Hawaii family vacation. We did a lots of hiking in 10 day vacation. The pack goes well with the my shorts / tank top. It's very light but fits a lots of stuff in. it's not water proofed but it's better than your pants' pockets. you also can carry it across shoulder. I love it very much.
They aren’t kidding that it’s mini!
Okay, so in fairness, I did not look at the measurements of this item before buying and the photos online make it seem much bigger than it actually is. That being said, my iPhone could easily fit in, along with keys, a lip balm, and maybe an ID or credit card. you could wear it discreetly for travel, I imagine, and being Patagonia, I know the quality is amazing.
