Surprisingly Bright
This product really surprised me. When I got the lantern it was a bit smaller than I expected so I was a little discouraged. I opened it up and plugged it in to charge. It didn't seem to take too long to charge. Once I did I turned it on and was super shocked by how bright it was. It's a perfect addition to my backpacking kit. It doesn't weigh much and works great for a flashlight too. So I was able to get rid of my heavier flashlight. The two wires on top are a little hard to swing up in order to use them to hook on something. Not a huge deal but they are a little tight. The light does have a couple of different settings. One that is the white light, one that is just blue, and one that rotates through the spectrum like a lot of LED lights do. The interesting one was the setting which has an orangeish light that seems to flicker. I am assuming that it is supposed to resemble a candle. Kind of cool but not sure I would ever use that setting. Same with the settings other than white. If you like that kind of thing then it's a nice add it's just not something I would use. I would definitely recommend this little lantern to anyone who wants a nice little compact light that doesn't weigh much and shines bright.
Tiny but mighty
This little thing will surprise you! Very small and lightweight, so small I actually lost it in my pack for a bit. The range of lighting levels is excellent. You can customize the color, which is nice because you can change the bright white to a warmer white that is easier on the eyes. By far my favorite feature is that is still works while charging! The hooks on the back are very useful. We were able to clip it the back of our camp loveseat, our stove while cooking and the inside the roof of our popup camper shell. I'm a big fan of Black Diamond products and this light is no exception. I am knocking off a star because I think the price is a bit steep.
Neat little light!
Neat little device. It's rechargeable, and I can charge it with my folding solar panel. It comes with a stubby micro usb cord, but I have a longer one to keep device in shade while it's charging so the battery doesn't overheat. I can see this coming in handy not just for camping, but hurricane/monsoon season when the power goes out. It took a while to figure out how to choose the color (by holding down the little button until you find the color you want). Then use longer button to adjust lumen output. I wish it started out red instead of purple. I also like using it at night as a warm low light that won't disturb circadian rhythm. Flickering/warm Campfire mode is not dimmable, but can pause the color on the yellow mode and dim or brighten from there. You can go full disco strobing color changing mode if you want to, lol. The little magnets are strong, and it also has hooks to make it easy to hang.
Great little home light!
Initially got this lantern for camping, but the novelty features have made it really fun to use at home. It's small and easily packable and has held a charge for a few weeks, using it sparingly in the evenings. The foldable hooks and magnets are great for fastening to tent loops (or the fridge) without having to rest it down. The color wheel and "campfire" lighting options definitely extended its use after our camping trip was over - my little camper has adopted it for pretend fires and rainbow mood lighting. My only critique: this little lamp boasts so many lighting options that toggling them to your preferred lighting choice with just the two control buttons is sometimes tricky without resorting back to the instruction page. Otherwise, it's a great home and camping gear addition!
A lot of light in a small package
The Black Diamond Moji R+ lantern does a good job of providing light weight general lighting for an enclosed space. The bright white is just that and the amber lower setting actually provides plenty of light with savings of the battery life. I'm not sure the value of the changing light colors but some may like it. The buttons are a bit hard to find and engage in the dark but they probably won't get activated accidentally while in a pack. The double hooks on the back are well out of the way until needed so the light can be easily hung, with the built in magnets as an alternative. I was hoping the amber color would not attract insects when used outside of an enclosure, but it did, although quite a few less than the white. The battery life seems good for a few days use but you will need to figure out a charging method with the micro USB for longer trips. A very practical light with many uses from pack packing, camping, to other outdoor activities.
Little light packs a punch
I like the idea behind this light. Many lanterns try to be more than what is necessary but this little lantern does just what it needs to do. Great for hanging in a tent, car, or anywhere you'd like to illuminate a wide area. It has a range of settings (including a color changing setting that is a fun addition). It took a few uses to get a better hang of the buttons to cycle through the options but really not too complex with an on button and an output button to change it. I like the "campfire" setting which is a reddish color that has a little flicker to it that is pretty relaxing in a tent. With the max setting was able to add plenty of light on the picnic table area some campsites and for a little package it packs a good punch.
Feature packed, well made, poor instructions
I've always been a fan of these small compact lights that can hang in a tent/car/hammock/tarp and light up a small area. Not the best directional flashlights, but that's what headlamps are for. My previous similar light of a different brand died, so I picked up this BD Moji R+. So far it seems very well built and is packed with multiple useful features. I am looking forward to being able to recharge it with a small battery pack or in the car. The instructions could definitely be improved, the small pictures do not do a good job of explaining how to use this properly. Put simply there are 4 modes: white light, candle light, solid color, and rainbow cycle, all controlled with one button. The other larger button controls on/off, dimming and strobe effects. NOTE: To set which color is used on the solid-color mode, you must keep the small button pressed down during the solid-color mode until it starts cycling through all colors, then release the button when the desired color is on. That will lock in whatever color was chosen for the solid color mode.
Size, brightness and battery life great. Colors?
I used this many occasions while camping or in a backyard fire. I recharged it once during the 5 or 6 uses. Each use was 1 to3 hours with many on/off cycles. The amount of light was great and a soft light, not blinding when you look at it. It also kept its brightness consistent through battery life. The installed hook is durable and easy to fold away or pull out as needed. The one negative I have is that the colors seem like a useless function and just add a complication to a great product. I figure someight like the colors, but for a no frills type of backpacker it is a questionable feature.
Please update to USB-C!
Perfect size and function, however, for the price I would expect A.) The battery to be accessible and replaceable when it no longer retains a decent charge and B.) The charging USB port to be type c. Black Diamond please get with the times, most modern devices worth their salt are using USB-C. Micro is becoming inconvenient and thus this product becomes inconvenient having to carry a micro USB cable just for it. Black Diamond, please update for 2025 and this would be the perfect camping/backpacking light! :\
Works well for specific purposes
Works well if you have a specific need for it. I find a head lamp to be more effective in illuminating what I need to see. Its really only good as a tent lamp but I still found myself never using it. Being rechargeable is nice, but you have a power source to re-charge if you're going to use for an extended period. Takes a few uses to get the button functions down. Didn't use the color-changing LED features, but it is a cool novelty... Overall would recommend if you need something to sit in one spot and illuminate an area.
