Revel Gear’s Unconditional Warranty is Awesome

I wanted to write this review to acknowledge the amazing customer support I received from Revel Gear when I accidentally broke one of the lights on our last camping trip. I contacted Revel Gear to see if I could try to fix the lights by soldering the broken wire back together, and without hesitation they said, “we totally understand accidents happen, and stand behind our products 100%, even accidental damage. We have a pretty comprehensive “Unconditional Warranty” and our goal is to make sure you and your family can enjoy the outdoors to the fullest, so we will happily send you out a replacement free of charge.” We didn’t even have to pay for shipping! A few days later, we had a new set of lights and were ready for our next trip. Side note: They did make it extra clear not to try to repair the broken light (even thought I think I could have) and said it was a liability issue and instead sent me a return label so they could recycle the electronics and raw materials in a sustainable manner. (I’m not sure if the extra shipping back and forth is better for the environment, but it’s good to know they’re trying.) Thanks for the amazing customer support! Highly recommend these lights! We absolutely love the ambiance these lights provide and love being able to see around camp at night without a headlamp.

Difficult Controls

It is possible I just got a defective one, but the controls for dimmer and modes are really not easy to use. The controls aren't separate buttons so it's unclear sometimes what I'm actually pushing. I'd be trying to change modes and it starts dimming or vice versa. Then when I have it attached to my Anker battery pack, the lights just started to be on blinking mode for some reason, or just not operational when I plug it in another power source. It as barely in for about 20 minutes, then brightened up without me touching it and was great for about 3 hours, when i tried to dim it, but ended up going crazy and I just unplugged it. It looked great for 3 hours, but I'm sad it just didn't work the way it was supposed to :/

Adds Magic to Any Camp

If you are on the fence, get these lights! They can make the creepiest of campsites cozy, including my partners work van. For being so thin, they're much more durable than other options out there and the length is just right. The button at the base also allows you to control the brightness depending on what your lighting needs are and battery situation. I love them so much I bought more as gifts for my camping friends.

PERFECT for EVERYTHING

I own a few strands of these lights and I have loved them in Every situation we’ve used them in...from basecamping to backyard mood lighting to bike parties (yes, I said bike parties) and more. First, they’re durable. They have handled some unexpected precipitation, abuse from a 3 year old and being wrapped around bicycles for daily riding. Second, they’re bright, but not too bright. I’ve used the regular white light version and the multi-color version and they’ve given just the right amount and type of light we needed. And finally, they’re fun! These things wrap around anything and go anywhere. We’ve taken them on camping trips to the Texas coast, road trips around the west and strung them up at home for mood lighting at our gatherings. Overall, they’re a lightweight, durable and fun lighting option for just about any situation.

Super fun lights!

I spend quite a bit of time in public use cabins across Alaska in the winter. I usually bring a lantern but I grabbed these lights at REI one day and took them again. They are insanely lightweight, and so long! They light up the small cabins perfectly. They have several modes you can choose from, so you can have them dimmer or lighter, blinking etc. I loved them so much after the trips that I put them up in my bedroom at home and bought a second set for camping!

Dope accent lights!!!

These little string lights have so many fun uses. We decorated our Christmas tree with them, we ran them on porch for all year round mood lighting, and take them camping to put around the tent!! These are a must have for so many reasons!!

Great Customer Service

I purchased 3 sets of lights from REI after going on a trip with a friend who had one. The lights are beautiful and bright, and I love that you can dim them down for the late night mood and save battery life so we can leave them running around the tent for our long weekend trips. On our last trip, my son tripped on one of the light strands around the tent and the broke the wire, so I decided to give Revel Gear a call. They were really great to chat with and sent us out a replacement set, no questions asked. I definitely stand behind this product and their wonderful customer service! They have a loyal customer for life. Thanks, Revel Gear!

Absurdly hard to manage, tangled mess of useless

This is basically a thin copper wire with small LEDs placed every 4 inches or so. as others have noted, the wire gets immediately tangled and kinks incessantly. I haven’t even had a chance to set these lights up at a campsite yet; I just open the package upon purchase, and have spent the last 20 minutes trying to untangle the wire. There is no conceivable way I would take this light strand camping, or use it in any capacity where I had to set it up and take it apart repeatedly. Perhaps it would be useful if you permanently mounted it to the inside of camper camper or a van or something.

String lights for a hot tent

Exceptionally light weight and small, it is sold as a coil of wire without a storage reel, which leads to a rat’s nest of highly kinkable wire at first use. I will have to devise something to wrap the string around. It provides the same intensity of light as a candle lantern over a broad area and uses trivial amount of battery power. I use one wrap straps to hang it up out of the way on the tent frame, which is more difficult than it sounds. These lights are not compatible with just any USB battery. My 3000mAh 1.0A output batteries seem to work, but the 5000mHa 2.0A output do not. It’s in use, but I’m sorta irritated with the product.

Terrific… but VERY tangly!

I have two sets of these, one in white and one in multicolor. I brought them with me backpacking and the light and ambiance they provide is AMAZING. But these things tangle so easily, and are surprisingly fragile for how pricey they are. I’ve had cheaper sets of string lights that at least had a clear silicon coating over the wire, but these are just copper and dewdrop LEDs. If you’re going car camping, don’t bother with these, and just get a battery operated set from Target or IKEA. They are super lightweight and packable for backpacking, so I’d recommend them if weight and size are SERIOUS concerns for you. Otherwise just grab a cheaper and sturdier set elsewhere

One step from great

Pro’s: affordable, very bright but dimmable, low power consumption, lightweight. 5V USB connector works well with my RavPower portable batteries which I already own to recharge my other electronics. Con: this is just so prone to kinking when you pack and the unwrap. Product would really benefit from some sort of spool for storage. I gave “difficult to use” rating for both kink tendency and lack of instruction manual. I know, plug in the USB and turn on power switch. But many of the settings beyond dimming were hard to understand. Sometimes the only way I can figure out how to stop the flashing program, was to unplug and replug back in.
