Tushar Rain Jacket

Tushar: named after the rugged Tushar (pronounced Tuh-sher) Mountains, where we've spent hours in high-elevation storms, this jacket is designed to withstand the harshest conditions for extended use while maintaining an ultralight 7 oz weight.

  • Confidently Durable and Lightweight: Crafted from super lightweight materials, the Tushar Rain Jacket offers unbeatable durability without weighing you down. Its 20D face fabric ensures you can navigate through rugged terrain without worrying about tears or damage.
  • Optimized Breathability: We've utilized 2 different waterproof membranes for optimized breathability & all day waterproofing. This will help prevent pressure areas (such as where a backpack or shoulder straps sit) from getting saturated even if the DWR treatment eventually wears away, and will still allow other areas to breath -all while keeping you completely dry.
  • Long-Haul Reliability: This rain jacket is built to last, providing extended waterproof protection even in the most challenging conditions. Whether you're facing quick storms or prolonged downpours, you can trust the Tushar Rain Jacket to keep you dry and comfortable throughout your journey.
  • Innovative Design: The inclusion of a 3D half layer on the interior of the fabric ensures maximum comfort by keeping the membrane off your skin, eliminating that clammy feeling common in other rain jackets. This innovative design not only enhances breathability but also contributes to the jacket's lightweight construction.

With its superior durability, lightweight design, and optimized breathability, this ultralight rain jacket is the solution for adventurers who demand performance and reliability in every storm. Stay dry, stay comfortable, and stay ready for anything with the Tushar Rain Jacket.

Torain® Technology

We've teamed up with Toray to use the innovative Torain® 3D 2.5 Layer Waterproof Breathable Lamination Technology in the Tushar Rain Jacket.

What this means is that you get a more breathable & durable rain jacket with less weight.

This technology consists of a few main innovations:

  1. Body-Mapped Waterproof Membrane Laminations
  2. 3D Printed Interior Half Layer
  3. Torain® Materials & Seam Tapes

Body-Mapped Membranes

Hydrophilic Membranes

Many rain jackets rely heavily on DWR treatments on the face fabric & use a breathable hydrophilic waterproof membrane beneath.

DWR treatments eventually will wear away.

Once a DWR (Durable Waterproof Repellent) treatment is gone, the hydrophilic membrane in these jackets is what keeps them waterproof.

Hydrophilic membranes basically absorb water until the membrane is saturated. This causes it to swell and seal. At this point, water will not be able to pass through the membrane.

The only problem with this is that a saturated hydrophilic membrane feels cold and clammy to the touch, and no longer can breathe (allow vapor to pass through.)

Hydrophobic Membranes

Hydrophobic membranes by nature repel water by themselves instead of absorb it like a hydrophilic membrane would. Even when the DWR treatment wears off the face fabric of a jacket, no water will be absorbed.

This means that hydrophobic membranes are more durable (in terms of getting "wetted out") and have a higher waterproof rating.

The only downside with using only hydrophobic waterproof membranes in a rain jacket is that they are not very breathable.

This causes the moisture vapor from your body to stay trapped inside the rain jacket, resulting in you getting soaked from the inside.

Tushar Rain Jacket Body Mapped Application

The Tushar Rain Jacket uses both hydrophilic membranes and hydrophobic membranes.

We've placed these membranes exactly where you'll need them for higher durability without sacrificing breathability.

The gray panels of the Tushar Rain Jacket are where we've used hydrophobic membranes. These are high stress areas like your shoulders and back where a backpack might wear away the DWR treatment more quickly or where rain falls most directly.

The colored panels of the Tushar Rain Jacket are where we've used a hydrophilic membrane. Again, hydrophilic membranes are more breathable than hydrophobic, and will keep your body comfortable and help you avoid that cold clammy feeling.

These colored hydrophilic areas of the Tushar Rain Jacket receive less abrasion, and there is less risk of the DWR treatment wearing down very quickly.

By body-mapping these waterproof membranes, we've maximized both durability and breathability so you can comfortably wear the Tushar Rain Jacket all day as needed!

3D Printed Interior Half Layer

Most Jackets have 3 layers:

  1. Face Fabric
  2. Waterproof Membrane
  3. Interior Layer (next to skin)

The Tushar Rain Jacket only has 2.5 layers!

This is because of Torain® 3D Print fabric technology. This interior half layer has 2 basic functions:

  1. significantly reduce the weight of the rain jacket (thus allowing us to use a stronger 20D face fabric rather than 7D in comparable jackets)
  2. keep the waterproof membrane off of your skin so you don't feel "clammy"

Basically we've cut the weight of the jacket by a whole half layer & have made it more comfortable at the same time!

This lighter interior layer allowed us to beef up the face fabric thickness so you can still have an ultralight rain jacket that weighs just ounces, but it will be MUCH stronger than comparable 7 oz ultralight rain jackets by other brands.

Torain® Materials & Seam Tapes

All of the materials used in the Tushar Rain Jacket are sourced through Toray. Toray has developed their own seam tape that adheres to their fabrics much better, as is proven in the Jungle Test

The Jungle Test

The Jungle Test is a simulator that mimics time & use in humid, saline environments.

This is important, because inside a rain jacket your body creates a micro-environment that is very humid and very saline (salty) from sweat & regular body moisture.

Not only does a rain jacket have to hold up to outside weather, but it has to be able to handle your internal micro-environment as well.

When a product or garment is place in the Jungle Test simulator, the test is to see how well that product holds up before deteriorating. 1 week is the equivalent of 1 year non-stop in a humid, wet, saline environment.

The Tushar Rain Jacket successfully handled the equivalent of 10 years of non-stop exposure without any signs of seam degradation!

While other products were starting to fall apart and the seam tape was coming loose, the Torain® fabrics and seam tape held together exceptionally well.

To sum this up, the Tushar Rain Jacket is built better & can handle the extreme environments on your adventures for many years to come!

Product Care

Your Tushar Rain Jacket is a high performance piece of gear. It needs some extra attention to keep it performing at the highest level.

Please read through the care instructions below to ensure that you care for it properly:

Do NOT expose to bug spray containing oils or DEET. DEET will destroy synthetic fabrics. Bug spray and other things containing oils will not destroy synthetic fabric, but they will discolor your Tushar Rain Jacket.

Before Washing

  • Never wash your rain jacket in a washing machine that has an agitator.
  • Your rain jacket has zippers, please zip them up completely to prevent snagging during the washing process.
  • If you cannot follow either of these prior instructions you should hand wash your product

The Wash & Dry Process

  1. Use Nikwax Tech Wash (for technical gear).
  2. Choose Low Spin or Delicate wash.
  3. Choose Cold Wash & Cold Rinse (add extra rinse if possible).
  4. Hang dry until the product is completely dry.

Unbelievable!

My go too now for rain protection! Love this thing! Just did 30 miles at Dolly sods and had to wear it most of the trip, kept me warm and dry, vented well, never soaked through! Love it!

no rain yet

Used this to break the chill at the beginning (5am) of my hike through the Art Loeb. The forecast called for rain but didn't get any so not sure how it will shed water yet. The materials and build quality are very impressive, and it's very light and packable. I think I will enjoy this jacket for years to come in rainy and chilly conditions, both on the trail and off.

Love everything but the hood

Just so others can use it as a reference, I am 5'7 weighing in at 220. Stocky, festively plump, fire hydrant build. The extra large is snug through the middle. The weight and feel of the jacket is amazing. I'm nervous taking UL gear off trail, because it will normally implode after the first twig it comes in contact with. This jacket held up well on my short adventure away from the trail. The hood is the only downside. It swallows my entire head and face, and doesn't move when I turn. There's no system to modify it to be more snug. All of that is also readily rectified with a hat. I'm sure version 2.0 will fix some of the hood issues because y'all are awesome!

I love the weight (or should I say lack of...?) of this jacket! Can't wait to test it out!

Perfect

I have been using my jacket regularly for several months. It is light weight, of course, but what is great is how well it functions In heavy, extended rain and wind. This is a fantastic piece of gear!!
