So disappointed in the GTX-not waterproof

I wore these around the neighborhood for a few days and combined with a SuperFeet insole, they may be the best boot to wear on my trek on Kilimanjaro with my plantar fasc. I was so excited for the cushion and the comfort. At mile four of today's hike, it started to rain, I thought that this was a good opportunity to test the GTX that actually made my feet really hot on all my neighborhood hikes this week. Within ten minutes, I could tell that my feet and socks were soaked and there were water marks at several points in the boots. When I got to the car two miles later and took off my boots, not only were my socks were soaked, the liners were soaked and my toes were pruny. This will not work on Kili. Huge fail and huge disappointment for $250 GTX boots.

Great boots for hiking trails! Very grippy!
I bought these boots because I was going to do a hike with my sister and wanted a sturdy boot with a grippy sole. I usually have to buy wide shoes, but these felt pretty comfortable without being wide. The soles are so grippy that when I had them on in the house and walking on the carpet, they would stick to the carpet so much that a couple of times, I almost fell over! Lol I do use them to walk my dog as well, but it seems the soles don't handle the asphalt well. I've only had these hikers for maybe 7 months, and the soles are very worn (like having bald tires). Now that the winter weather is here, I wear these all the time, even at work, and I am on my feet all day. Time for a new pair, but $240 every 6 months (I've needed to get a new pair for at least a month now) gets very expensive.

Love these!

These boots are amazing! I can only wear HOKAs hiking & was stoked to see a waterproof mid available. I wore them on a short hike & they were very comfortable. I didn’t even have to put my own insoles in. I then wore them snowshoeing & they worked great. My feet stayed dry, no blisters or hot spots. My feet are narrow & I have high arches. These are the most comfortable boot I’ve ever hiked in. Highly recommend!

didn't hold up and dye stained feet for days

I have used 8 different models of hoka boots. I also wore 3 different pairs of this kaha. All my previous hoka boots lost some lugs at about 300 miles of hiking or sooner. Many of the lugs on this kaha model completely wore flat after less than 300 miles of non rocky, flatish hiking. REI (which I love) told me it was because I was carrying too much weight. But I weigh 120 lbs and had at most a 25 lb pack for at most 100 of those 300 miles. By that logic these boots cannot support a 145 pound person or a 135 pound person with a ten pound pack! Also they completely stained my socks and feet blue every time they got wet. Hoka customer service was terrible which is why the lowest rating.

These are the best hiking boots I've ever purchased including four pair of different brands in the past 10 years -- all of which ended up donated to thrift stores. They are truly waterproof, I've worn them daily for the past four months and they still look like new. The soles grip in icy conditions, they're also good in slush and deep snow. The cushioning is great, my feet never hurt or get tired. I hike on trails, gravel, sand, steep inclines and rocky surfaces; these boots work well no matter where I'm hiking. Michelle McNeff in the Reno store is an amazing saleswoman, she had several customers the day I went in, she gave all of us individualized advice and even showed me a new way to lace my shoes to provide greater comfort. BTW if you are anywhere near northern California, the Bizz Johnson Trail is excellent for hiking and gravel biking.

Most comfortable hiking boots ever
I've tried several different makes of hiking boots, all of which gave me blisters on my toes. I've been using Hoka Bondi 7 shoes for a while for comfort while walking when Hoka finally came out with hiking boots! I didn't hesitate to purchase a pair from REI as soon as I could. The REI tech assisted me in purchasing the Kaha 2 GTX and I've never been happier.
My 1st time on the mountain, not even 1 sore toe! I didn't even wrap 1 toe to see what would happen, and I had the most comfortable, enjoyable hike even up the South Fork trail to San Gorgonio mountain. And this was my first hike after my hip replacement surgery too!

Great comfort/support post bunion surgery
2 years ago
My goal for purchase likely different than most here: in case this is helpful for anyone I’m sharing experience.
Lapiplasty surgery 10/22. The surprise was having first metatarsal alignment corrected such that now I need padding in my shoe to make up for what my foot currently lacks (and will hopefully regain over time). I have Hoka running shoes, Altras, Birkenstocks, all helpful- but end of day, slightly limping again (I’m an RN), wearing to work, and dog walking on MI unpaved muddy pathways.Tried several arch supports, helpful, but still difficult at end of day. Finally, able to comfortably walk distance again. I needed ankle support, padding in shoes, as well as the support of the boot. Feel like I’m walking on super soft comfy Cush. Only minor issues getting them on in the AM: positioning tongue under laces, this is not my first choice for a work shoe in a health care setting but you can hose them off end of day: same w the clay, mud, snow slurry that we walk thru. Most I’ve walked is 8 miles easy terrain, so can’t really speak to distance or climbing experience. I tried several other hiking boots at REI and these were my favorite by far. I’ve never spent so much money on a pair of shoes before, relieved they are meeting my needs. Recommended to all healing from bunion surgery!

Disappointment for Hoka for the first time
11 months ago
I ordered two pairs of these for my wife. The first pair was strange. The left foot and the right foot were in different shapes. The left foot turned inwards a lot more than the right foot. So I ordered another pair. This second pair looked more normal. We went on a 2-week walking trip. The folded section of the tongue of the left boot kept digging into her ankle bone. It was very painful. Since we had been happy with Hoka for more than 10 years, we did not expect any problems and did not bring another pair. Big mistake. She kept wearing them for 10 days, making adjustments in various ways to lace the boots. The only way to cope is to NOT lace the ankle islets, which caused the foot to move around in the boot and that was hazardous to walk on rocky terrains. I have never returned a pair of Hoka in my life. I will try to return these.

soles wore out fast; dye ran, stained feet & socks
1 year ago
I have used 8 models of hoka boots and had 3 pairs of this kaha. The lugs/soles fell off ALL hoka boots within 300 miles but I liked the boots enough to glue them and keep going. This Kaha has been the worst with much of the bottom wearing completely flat on all 3 pairs within 300 miles. Not fixable on trail. REI (which I love) told me it was because I was carrying too much weight. But I weigh 120 and never had more than 25 pounds for at most 100 of those 300 miles. By that logic they would not support a 145 lb person nor a 135 pound person with a 10 lb day pack! They also stained my feet blue for weeks every time they got wet. (NOT waterproof) and my socks are stained blue as well. Lowest rating because Hoka customer service was terrible and would not take responsibility so REI ends up eating the defective product when I return it.
