2-year Warranty#1 Rated by Cook's Illustrated and America's Test Kitchen, Read MoreNIST Traceable

Two Channels
Measure both your food and the cooking environment with Average Mode OR set two high alarms to track two different foods while they cook.

Unbeatable Simplicity
Like with DOT, just press the Up and Down buttons to set your High Alarms for each channel. Press ANY button to activate the backlight.

Super-Rugged
Molded-in seals protect against spills, splashes, and rain. With the reinforced frame and 5,000 hours of battery life, Square DOT will be ready when you need it.

Verified Accuracy
Each Square DOT comes with its own NIST-traceable calibration certificate verifying its accuracy to national standards.

A refreshing twist on a classic, Square DOT is everything you love about DOT only now with 2 channels and an amazing new air temperature average function. Channel 1 functions as a regular alarm thermometer while Channel 2 can operate in two different modes. Average mode shows you a revolving average temperature calculation of the last 15 minutes, starting when the alarm is first reached. It’s perfect for determining your average oven temperature as you cook, so you can adjust in realtime to get the most accurate results for any recipe. When average mode is disabled, Channel 2 will function as an alarm channel . Like DOT, Square DOT has big, easy-to-read digits, backlit display, ThermoWorks’ signature molded-in splash-proof seals and a commercial-grade plastic body making it a durable, user-friendly tool. It comes with a fold-out stand, a magnetic back for surface mounting, a Pro-Series® penetration probe, and a Pro-Series air probe—each with cables that withstand 700°F (371°C). Square DOT also accepts any of the optional Pro-Series probes. Intended for commercial food service, Square DOT beats houseware brands for simplicity and durability.

Love the Square Dot
The Square Dot performs exactly as advertised. The only thing that I would recommend that they add an on and off feature. It did not shut off by the specified time that the instructions said it would. I simply popped the battery out, no big deal. I cooked a large London Broil for its first use and it performed perfectly. I recommend this product.

Easy to use and accurate when calibrating and roasting
The Square Dot has been very helpful in calibrating a new oven, and to understand that the oven temperature display is also off, so that it takes much longer to reach the correct average temperature. The food probe is also more accurate than the one that came with the oven.

We keep the Dot on a magnetic board next to the oven, and the probes wrapped around a probe spool when not in use.

Very happy to find a device that that not use apps, which will be obsolete in a few years.

The only change would be to have the on/off and average button on the front, but I can understand why it is on the back to keep the unit smaller.

Square dot did the job
The square dot did the job I wanted it for. Needed to check the accuracy of my new oven. It allowed me to determine the setback (high and low range ) temp and adjust the thermostat on it. I am very happy with the square dot. It did just what I needed it to do.

Great guage
It is lovely but more than I needed, so I returned it to purchase one that better fits my needs. The return process was straightforward, and the customer service was invaluable.

Great product at a reasonable price (not much more than a single probe thermocouple)
I used the Square DOT this weekend to smoke Pastrami. It was excellent! The LCD readouts were easy to read even from a distance. The 2nd probe readout with alarm really helped me regulate the air vents to control the smoker to 270 F outside the beef roast. The readout came with batteries which is always good for a device that uses them (don't have to go to a store at the last minute to get them) and included a plastic spacer to keep them from becoming depleted before the first use either in transit or sitting on a shelf before purchase. I even liked the plastic tray the device came packaged in, I have used it in the drawer where I store the readout device and probes when it is not in use. This is my second Thermoworks thermocouple temperature measuring device, I gave my original one (purchased ten years ago) to my wife for canning, making candy, calibrating her oven and roasting beef/turkey in her kitchen.

It is right on!
I discovered last Thanksgiving that my oven thermostat was off by 50 or more degrees. The square dot has allowed to know how to adjust my thermostat to achieve the right temperature

Great product and accurate. Definitely not intuitive though. Open up the manual until you have it down.

Best oven thermometer I've encountered
This thing simultaneously tracks the actual oven/grill temperature, the average oven temp, and the food I'm cooking. Love it!

Why did you choose this?

I need to have an accurate oven temperature when baking or cooking. But mostly baking and I suspect my oven is off by about 10 or 15 degrees I based my selection on good reviews

Dual temperature functionality for both ambient temperature and internal was very appealing

My oven temperature varies and I can't read the hanging oven thermometers through the oven window.

Two questions: 1) Is the grate holder for the air probe designed to fit a conventional oven grate which is considerably wider apart than a grill grate? The grate holder for your other products do not fit a conventional oven grate and cannot be used.  2) Can 2 air probes be used at the same time to check the oven temp in different areas of the oven or is one can only be used as a food probe?

1. ThermoWorks’ Grate Clips were designed to be as universal as possible and do work with most oven, grill, and smoker racks. However, oven and grill/smoker manufacturers have different-sized racks so we cannot guarantee that it will work with every rack.

To accommodate a wider rack, insert the air probe into the holes in the grate clip, then pull the clip’s brackets outward. Doing so with the probe in place will prevent the clip from distorting the upper portion and will not damage the probe in any way. You can see how this works here: https://youtu.be/dbAfG5E4e3I

2. Yes, you can use two Air Probes at the same time to check different spots of the oven. Keep in mind that Square DOT's Average function is associated with Channel 2. Channel 1 will merely report the temperature of the probe's tip.

Thoroughly confused. No instructions anywhere on how to use this to monitor oven temp. The included grate clip only allows for the probe to face the oven wall (I have the same Wolf oven in the picture) but the only info I could find (in customer questions) says not to point this at the oven wall, only toward the door. How?

Simply put, point the end to the wall furthest to where you have it placed. If you have centered in a Square shaped space, as unlikely as that is, then spin over that 🤡.

Can I use the probe for a candy and/or deep fryer thermomenter?

Yes, you can. You'll want to have a longer probe for the deep fryer as you'll want to make sure you keep the probe's transition out of the oil. Pro-Series® High Temp 12-inch Probe is found here:

https://www.thermoworks.com/tx-1005x-12/

While you can use Square DOT for candy making, it isn't the best option.

Sugar temperatures rise very rapidly at the end of a cook, so it's critical that your thermometer reads temperatures quickly. An instant-read thermometer, such as a Thermapen ONE (which reads temperatures in 1 second), is an ideal solution. A Square DOT reads the temperature in approximately 8-10 seconds. You can find Thermapen ONE here:

https://www.thermoworks.com/thermapen-one/

It's also critical that a thermometer used in candy making be extremely accurate. Because a Thermapen ONE uses thermocouple technology, it is more accurate (plus or minus 0.5°F). A Square DOT, which uses thermistor technology, is less accurate (plus or minus 2°F). Also, please be aware that a stationary probe kept in the same position during a cook may cause you to miss temperature hot spots. If this happens, you might accidentally overcook your candy. Crystallization is also a problem associated with stationary probes.

If you decide to go ahead with using Square DOT for candy making, you'll want to buy a pot clip, found here:

https://www.thermoworks.com/tx-1007x-pc/

What are the dimensions of the square dot?

Square DOT is 3x3 inches and 7/8 inch thick.

Will the cable get damaged when I close the oven door?

The cable should be OK if the oven, as they typically do, has a flexible seal around the door. Ovens that do not have this type of seal, such as my Breville toaster oven, would have some risk of pinching the cable and damaging it.

can you turn the alarm off once it reaches the desired temperature without turning the whole display off?

Hi Rebecca,

You can turn off the alarm without turning off the whole display. Simply press any of the buttons on the Square DOT to turn off the alarm without turning off the display. After you have pressed a button, the alarm will stop, but Alarm will continue blinking on the side of the display.

how to get started?

There are a few ways to do that depending on what you're using your Square DOT for. You have a penetration probe that you can use inside of meat, yogurt, water, oil, etc. And you have an air probe that you can set in your oven, grill, smoker, etc. First, you'll want to set your high and low alarms according to your situation. We have an article you can take a look at for using your Square DOT: https://help.thermoworks.com/knowledge-base/using-your-square-dot/

If you have more questions about using your Square DOT, I recommend giving us a call at 801-756-7705.

The info on the Chef’s Alarm says that accuracy can be increased from +-2° to +-1° by calibrating it.  Can the same be done with the Square Dot or the Smoke Alarm?

+/- 2 is close enough for any baking that I do. If it ain't broke - don't try to fix it

Is it fine to rest the cable between the hot oven door and doorframe?

Yes, it is. Square DOT is designed to use with an oven. The cable can safely be shut in the oven door. You will want to avoid resting the cable on the oven's racks.

How wide is the grate clip for the square dot? My oven rack wires are super far apart - 1 3/4 inches. The other thermoworks thermometer/clip I have is too small but works on my outdoor grill.

Take a look at this article. The video shows how you can adjust your grate clip when your oven rack is far apart.
