Fabric

3DeFX Technology

Four types of spiral-shaped fibers are intertwined to give 3DeFX insulation more loft and stretchability than traditional microfiber synthetic insulations. This insulation stretches with you as you move, allowing heat to escape & keeping you at the perfect temperature!

Basically what this means is that you get a warmer insulation that weighs less & helps regulate temperature.

Utilizing 50% recycled 3DeFX+ Insulation we created a jacket that packs smaller, weighs less, and keeps you incredibly warm! Normally, the performance & durability of recycled material is lower than non-recycled materials (not as lofty, not as durable, heavier from impurities, etc.).
But that’s not the case with the Vario Jacket!

100% of our materials are sourced & created by Toray. We know where everything came from on a molecular level! That means there are no impurities in the recycled insulation fibers. Every part of it is planned & recycled purposefully.

The result is that the 50% recycled 3DeFX insulation has 0% performance & durability degradation after extensive testing (compared to normal 3DeFX.) It will last just as long. It’s just as lofty & warm!

Very light. Comfortable but not good for above 40 degrees

This jacket I purchased with the hope it would be my outer layer for a hike up Kiliminjaro. My partner thinks it is not warm enough. I think it is very warm, I toolkit with me on a trip to Massachusetts in February. It was so hot wearing that jacket and only a single layer under. It is very light, compacts well. I was disappointed a bag was not included, as I believe I saw a bag in one of the adds. I was very pleased with the return service the jacket I originally ordered was was too small. I am taking it to kiliminjaro.

Glad you've been enjoying your Vario! There's no need for a bag, you can turn the jacket into its own pocket to stash it. Enjoy your trip!

Perfect for the late Winter early Spring days

I've worn this jacket 10-15 times over the past few weeks. I am impressed with how warm it keeps me and how light it is. The warmth-to-weight ratio is superior!

Most recently, I wore it on a little excursion to the Tintic mountains in our Polaris RZR. It was perfect for the weather and the ride.

I really like this jacket

I have been in a few snowshoeing trips with this now and it does great. I stay warm when I need to and can dump heat when I need to. I highly recommend this one. At 6'1" and 190lbs, the large tall fits perfectly, I could probably be fine with just a large.

Versatile, Wind Resistant Outer Jacket

Since purchasing my XXL Vario Jacket (Stellar Blue) I am throughly pleased with the fabric, fit and weight. The fabric is not only smooth and soft the few times I have been out in light rain it beads and sheds water quite well, the fit is perfect and leaves room for a base layer. I especially like the adjustable hem which prevents wind entering from the bottom of the jacket and the hood not only fits well it is warm. The only slight negative is that the zipper pull is difficult to use with my big fingers. My Vario weighs in at 11.1 ounces. I generally use the Vario as my go to jacket when temperatures are in the high 30’s to mid 40’s with and without wind and I am very pleased with the performance. Today I tried to push the limits with a walk, I used a Tern Hoodie base layer, Ventus mid layer, the Vario and a Merino Wool Gaiter. Temperatures were in the mid 20’s with feels like temperature 16*. Wind gusting to 16 MPH. Bottom line I was warm.

Love this jacket with one caveat

I absolutely love this jacket. Has become one of my favorite jackets for backpacking/ hiking but also for everyday wear. Fit is great. It's super light and warm enough without being too warm to be active in. My only concern is with the durability. after only a few months of light use there's already some wear and pilling in the fabric on the inside of the collar area just from it rubbing against few day old beard stubble. It is an ultralight jacket, so you do need to take some care with it, but if stubble is enough to wear a hole in it, that's a little too fragile for my taste. Time will tell how well it holds up.
