Extremely light
You will NOT be winning any pillow fights by using this as your weapon. This pillow is extremely light, so it will not transfer any momentum to anyone you hit. The pillow has a noticeable amount of give, making it surprisingly comfortable even when inflated at maximum pressure. The breathable machine washable cover is very soft and provides a slight cushioning. This pillow is every ultralight backpacker's dream!!! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a backpacking pillow. Side sleepers with broad shoulders or side sleepers with sensitive ears would most likely need to look elsewhere as the Fillow Eliteis only three to four inches thick and relatively stiff compared to heavier, cushier models.
Decent camp pillow
I used to just use the dry bag my clothes were stored in as a pillow until I decided to "upgrade". It's packable and easy to inflate and I don't regret the purchase by any means. It's most comfortable (for me personally) while on my back. The thickness just isn't there for me for side sleeping. The only other thing is I can't insert it into my NEMO sleeping bag pillow pouch while it's inflated (maybe the none Elite pillow would be able to). It's just a little awkward having to inflate it after it's slid into the pouch. It is still able to be inflated to full size once in the pouch, the width is just slightly larger than the mouth of the insert.
Great balance of portability to comfort
This hybrid foam and inflatable design strikes a good balance between portability and comfort. All foam pillows are more comfortable but are both heavier and bulkier. All inflatable designs are smaller and lighter but have too much of a balloon feel for me to feel comfortable. I also have the longer "luxury" version which is just the same thing but longer. I actually prefer this shorter version because it doesn't get an indentation when my head is on it. With the longer model, there's more space on the sides for the air to go so it causes a small depression where your head is on it. The shorter version can better maintain consistent firmness throughout.
Stuff sack is INTEGRATED
FYI: the stuff sack is INTEGRATED into the pillow. There is not a separate item. Look on the back of the pillow and a tiny stuff sack is tucked into a flap on the opposite side of the pillow of the inflation valve. This is easily overlooked, as I did. • Inflates easily and packs down as small as a lime in its integrated stuff sack, making it ideal for backpacking and travel adventures
Exceptionally light backpacking pillow.
NEMO sent me this pillow some time ago. Unfortunately It’s been a bit over a year since I had the opportunity to get out and really test it. It was worth the wait (and the weight). It’s exceptionally light (barely worth weighing), but still very comfortable. The washable soft cover is a nice touch. No, plasticy or rubbery bladder against your skin. It doesn’t inflate quite as high as I would like as a side sleeper, but I believe there is another version that offers a bit more loft at the price of a bit more weight. It packs up super small. So small in fact that I regularly have a hard time finding it on my shelves when I’m packing for a trip 😂. It fits very nicely into the pillow pocket on the NEMO sleeping bag (No surprise there). That said, I never do that as I prefer the freedom to put an arm under the pillow sometimes. I’m also able to use my flextail pump to inflate it so no moisture gets in. I recently took it backpacking on a trip in the cotswolds, UK and had a pretty good night’s sleep using it. It isn’t anywhere near as comfortable as my standard NEMO Fillow because it lacks the memory foam topper, but if you’re looking for an ultralight pillow this is the one for you.
Not good for side sleepers
I wouldn't even bother with this pillow. I got this model because it was the only one in stock when I was at the store and heard decent things about it. As a side sleeper I found it to be very uncomfortable. The blow up part is not very thick and the "padding" is a thin layer of down so its not really any cushion. Pillows are my one luxury item and this was a waste to bring on trail. This is the ultralight model but I imagine if you're ultralight you're probably not using a real pillow to begin with. If you want a pillow and you're not trying to be as light as possible just get the base model, its extremely comfortable and completely worth the weight and bulk.
Slightly Better than Aeros Sea to Summit
I have tried the Aeros Sea to Summit in the past and think this is slightly better as it feels more like a normal pillow (both shape and material). The baffled bladder definitely cradles your head so no need to worry about your head sliding off, but the middle section does dip down as a result so it's really only 2-2.5 inches thick in the middle. I am a side sleeper and for side sleeping this is a bit too thin but the edges are thicker so I just lay my head there. Sea to Summit is a uniform 3 inches so if you like thicker that may be better, but for me this is more comfortable.
Pricey but worth it.
I did not intend to spend this much on a backpacking pillow, super light or not; it was a sole item hanging on the wrong rack, so I did not realize how much I was spending until cashing out and at that point didn’t care to pause the transaction to save $15. Having said that, I loved this pillow. Took it on a recent trip in the White Mountains, and I slept great. I am a semi side sleeper, semi stomach sleeper (full toss-and-turner), and this pillow was just big and sturdy enough to keep my head comfortably supported. The outer material feels close to that of a normal pillow case.
Well-made product, but just didn't work for me
Even though I like the size of this pillow, how light weight it is, how small it packs down, the built-in stuff sack, no leakage, and the cloth material on its top surface, I'm giving it one star because it just didn't work as a comfortable pillow for me. I'm mainly a side-sleeper and it's too thin to support my head at an appropriate angle, even if fully inflated. And with it fully inflated, my head felt like a bowling ball on a table and kept rolling side to side. If I deflated it to cradle my head, then the neck angle was even worse. It was very uncomfortable. I had hoped this would replace using clothing to make a pillow, but I could not get a good night's sleep even after three nights of trying. This one is going on the failed purchase shelf.
Not for side sleepers
I have used this twice now and I've found it inflates quickly, but the inflation valve is not easy to secure and you can't make adjustments easily. The valve also sticks out and is made of hard plastic that I hit many times with my hand. The loft of the pillow is not enough for me because I am a side sleeper. If you are a side sleeper you should skip this pillow. I had to place clothes under the pillow in order to make it comfortable for me. Also, the pillow doesn't fit well into the hood of a mummy bag due to its rectangular design
