Not today bear
A classic for shorter trips, the BV450-Jaunt® is the ideal bear canister for a weekend trip for two, or a solo trip for a few days. Compact enough to fit into smaller packs, yet spacious enough for a wholesome amount of food, the BV450-Jaunt keeps your food safe, protects bears and other wildlife, and keeps your backcountry jaunt going, storing 3-4 days of food.
Features:
- Specifically designed to be wide, round, and slippery to reduce leverage points for entry from bear jaws, claws, and paws
- Weight is low and volume is high, thanks to the durable, polycarbonate construction
- Transparent canister is easy to see into and doesn’t require you to empty the contents of the container to find specific items
- Wide opening allows you to reach in to find your tasty treats
- Screw-on lid is intuitive and secure, and doesn’t require extra tools to operate; no need to overtighten
- Strap guides aid in strapping and packing canister to your preference; an ideal place for your can is inside your pack just above your sleeping bag
- Rounded corners allow for smooth packing and removal
- Container doubles as a camp stool, a luxury most backpackers leave behind; close lid fully when using as a stool to preserve the screw-top threads
- This BearVault model has approval from both the Sierra Interagency Black Bear Group and Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee (IGBC)

BV -450
I took this out camping, and it worked really well and held all of our camping food. No smells, pretty sturdy.

Bear Vault-mid size
Bear Vault food protection (bear and people protection too!) is necessary in some locations but the size and weight of the full size product is tough to justify for short trips. I love the midsize vault which allows me enough room for 2-3 days.
Does what it is supposed to do
makes for great peace of mind when hiking in bear country. lighter weight than many of the alternative hard-sided containers. the additional benefit of the bearvault is that you don't have to worry about screws. the downside to this is that the plastic tab on the lid can be difficult to press down when temps are low. just takes a little practice (and warm fingers).
Important when needed
it’s a great piece of kit to have when regulations require you to have one. i’ve had to use it 6 times now. stores food well and gets used as stool in camp. use your drivers license or debit card to bypass the tabs and save your fingers when opening.
Bear claw badge of honor
i was introduced to these from a friend of mine. her canister has claw marks in it from a bear up at rmnp who couldn’t get it open. mine, although not clawed, has served my partner and i well on numerous weekend trips. also good for longer solo trips.
