Why We Like The Distance Carbon Z Trekking Poles
The lightest collapsible poles that Black Diamond makes, the Distance Carbon Z Trekking Poles' pure carbon construction keeps the weight down to a microscopic nine or ten ounces. This makes them perfect for long-distance treks, speed hiking, and even ultra-running.
The collapsible shaft packs down small when we're speeding through the flat sections, then assembles with a quick pull to keep that pace up during a steeper approach. EVA foam grips wick sweaty palms dry so a lost pole doesn't ruin our PR attempt, and interchangeable tips let us pick the most efficient tip for the terrain.

Super light weight but not the most durable
I really love how light weight these are, they barely feel like you're carrying anything. The only downside of that is that they aren't the most durable. I used them for 2 years for many hikes and trail runs and this summer I fell on a handle a tiny bit and it made a hairline crack that made it completely unusable. I wish they sold replacement parts to this but I couldn't find one that would fit. I ended up buying the new version of this same model because I liked it so much though, so hopefully it holds up for a few more years than the last pair.

Best running poles I've owned
The black diamond distance carbon poles are one of the most streamlined options on the market. Their light weight and durable construction make precise pole placements not only possible but enjoyable on long, challenging trail runs. My pair have been there for me on many epic days including the 40 mile High Peaks Wilderness Traverse in the Adirondack Mountains.

Incredibly lightweight
This is a great pole. It provides good stability at a really low weight and small foldable size. For users who want ultra-light poles for fast uphill travel or for approaches to technical climbs, these are the best poles out there. The adjustability isn't great but you're paying for weight and size here. If you want comfort, adjustability, or extreme durability, look for a different pole.

My favorite poles
I’m so over adjustable poles. I love the portability of of the collapsible, and the sureness of the fixed length. The adjustable styles always seem to slip to some degree. I also found myself just constantly adjusting length; it was just so annoying. I’ve switched to a fixed length, and it’s perfectly fine! These are light weight and durable. I have both the aluminum and carbon version of these. I use the aluminum on big hikes, and the carbon version when running. Couldn’t be happier with these!

Perfect!
Perfect poles! super light and easy to use. I had to add abrasion protection from alpine rocks for the first 6 inches of the pole. The poles are so strong! I had one jammed in the rocks and leaned on it with full body mass and it did not snap! They are expensive and I would recommend these for someone who moves fast and covers a lot of miles in the mountains.

Lighter and stronger than you would believe!
Excellent poles- I hiked 700 miles in Montana and Canada with these a while back. They made hiking a pleasure and saved me from slipping more times than I can count. They're strong enough to support my full body weight without fear of them breaking, which is a miracle given their weight. Given their folding nature, I've also never had to deal with them changing lengths. Collapsible poles tend to do that over time, which I find annoying to no end. My one and only complaint is that they tend to come slightly apart in mud. Not as issue on hard surfaces, but when they sink into the trail it happens. I put a single layer on electrical tape on the connective surfaces, which addressed the issue- but it would be nice to see that be fixed from the factory. It would make a perfect product.

Lighter than an Angry Squirrel
My first question is what's up with the angry fox squirrel invasion in my backyard? My second question is how did I make it so long without these poles?! As a current owner of the BD "Distance Z" poles and the fixed length BD "Distance Carbon" poles I find myself now only reaching for the "Distance Carbon Z poles." I love the other two... but what's not to love about a compact fold and the lightweight of carbon in one package? I'm 6'2" and bought the largest (130cm) size - which worked well. If I was taller I fear they would be too short. They've gotten me through several almost-too-crazy-steep ultra races and a pile of off-trail miles (trail running and with a heavy pack). When I finally break them I might have some criticism. But right now they are better than a backyard free of angry squirrels. Maybe some Squirrels Nut Butter will cheer them up?

Awesome light poles
Purchased for approaches and missions- invisibly light in the pack- great grips and structure. Was originally worried by the slight jiggle in the connections but you kind of get over it eventually. Avoid hitting on rocks.
