Very warm and great look but not great quality
This jacket was a Christmas present and I've had it for not even two months now and it has not seemed to of held up as far as quality goes. I have only worn it to the store and the gym nothing crazy and yet there is a tear in it, the stitching is messed up and the filling it starting to come out. Maybe I got a bad jacket, I am willing to try a different one but the one I have it not holding up, and I live in the south where the winters are tolerable!
Stiching
I was so excited about this jacket. I wanted something that I could use for a North Carolina winter and figured this would be perfect since I could layer under it on the few days it gets really cold. After only a few days the threads on both arms started to come loose and I can feel them getting caught on the zipper and pulling them out even more. They also get snagged on brick walls and doorways so I feel like I'm always having to be super careful where my arms are at all times. I'm in between sizes so it zips up really uncomfortably. I tried a size up at the store and it was like a tent on me. Not fault of Patagonia, just my large hips.
Great Patagonia customer service and jacket
I've had my nano puff for over 5 years and with constant, year round use it's showing its age so I'm replacing it with the same jacket. The jacket is a perfect weight for running around the city in all seasons. In Minnesota's early season winter it's great to have a less bulky jacket option. I have brought it camping often and if it's cool (40 degrees or less) I'm not warm enough when not active so I've layered a micro fleece jacket under it. As others have mentioned the stitching has snagged quite easily over the years and this is the reason I'm replacing it at this time: the pulled threads make the jacket look tired. Also, over the years I have cut the pulled stitching and it doesn't affect the overall jacket insulation staying in place. The jacket gets light use (no rock climbing etc.) so I've been unhappy with how easy the stitching pulls. Having said this I'd still buy the same jacket as it's well designed, perfect seasonal weight, and very packable for travel. Now for the Patigonia customer service review. The VERY first weekend I wore the jacket camping I left it on my chair by the campfire and stepped away for a moment. Wouldn't you know: an ember shot up the cuff of the jacket and melted the fabric! When I got home I called Patagonia and they sent me 1/2 yard of fabric at no charge. I was able to patch the jacket myself and as it was on the inside of sleeve it didn't show and became another camping memory! The pics I've included show a typical pulled thread and the repair of the melted fabric. Happy Travels in this jacket!
A flexible layer for any day!
A nice layer to take on any trip - alone it’s light and comfortable, in colder settings this layers well with thin sweaters. Downside is that the material is a bit noisy. Might not be great if that type of thing bothers you. Fit is true to size or a little large - I am on the petite end (5’2”)and the length is almost too long at XS.
Great all-around jacket
Been eyeing this jacket for years and finally bought one. I'm 5'7", 125-ish and could've gone with the small or medium. The medium was a looser fit but not horribly so. I went with the small because I figure most of my layering will be over this jacket, not under it. While the small is more fitted, I actually can wear a retro-x vest under it, which surprised me. So it's roomier than it seems. Wore it over a light hoodie for a snowy hike in 27 degrees this morning and I was perfectly comfortable. I got the gray color and it has a subtle sheen to it that I like. The jacket looks great with jeans or leggings. I'm seeing serious usage for this jacket going forward!
Stitching Faux-Pas
As a preface I can be a little picky about my clothes but when you invest the money in a product you want it to be everything you paid for. I really loved this jacket but unfortunately after only a few wears I noticed the stitching coming out here and there. I bought this jacket initially, noticed stitching issues, exchanged it for another one, and noticed the same thing on this second jacket. A huge bummer but nonetheless I will be returning it to REI and getting myself a nice little something in place of this jacket. This wouldn't stop me from buying Patagonia products in the future but because of the many stitching issues that could arise from it I would steer clear of this one.
Over 7,000 Miles In This Jacket
I purchased my Patagonia Nano Puff jacket in 2019 and used it as my primary jacket as I raced the Tour Divide Mountain Bike race - 2745 miles from Banff, Canada to Antelope Wells, New Mexico and I've been wearing it ever since. This jacket has taken a beating in every way imaginable - snow, hail and wind, hurriedly stuffed into a bag over and over again. It's no longer black and the zipper finally failed, but I squeezed every penny out of this fantastic jacket and then some. Best jacket I've ever had, hands down.
2 inches too long everywhere
I finally replaced my 10 yr old Patagonia Nanopuff with a new one. There's a reason I kept the first one for so long. It fit me perfectly, it always keeps me warm and has gone with me everywhere across continents, up cliffs, to the beach and more. I was planning to do the same with this new one, but the cut has been updated. It's now too long in the torso and the sleeves by two inches in each area. Patagonia, maybe add a bottom zipper? The color though is nice (light celery green) and hits all the other marks typical of Patagonia. Just not the lengths. I'm short at 5'-1" and my original XS fits perfectly. Still on the fence about returning this new one.
Packable Puff
This jacket was intended for the PNW, however, a business trip to Toronto came up last week, so I decided to give this jacket a whirl. So glad I did! Temperatures were on average -6 and in certain areas west of Toronto were -15. This jacket was a lifesaver. I wore it as an additional layer under my coat. It's warm and thin enough where you don't feel like a bulky snowman walking around. Love the fact that it has a high collar and a lining at the end of the zipper so it doesn't scratch your chin or neck. The 2 zip pockets and the hidden one inside are awesome. All pockets were able to fit by S7 nicely. Based on the test run in Toronto, I'm sure this jacket will hold up in Seattle. Highly recommend.
not in love unfortunately
I had been wanting this jacket for the longest time. Finally purchased it and loved it for the first few weeks. It really is warm and lightweight, and perfect for what I was looking for while I was living in Alaska. However, after not even a month of wearing it there are multiple threads pulled all over the jacket and it rips extremely easily. I’ve worn it backpacking maybe twice and otherwise, just on a regular basis for daily activities (work/school/walking around/etc). I am really disappointed at the quality overall and might end up returning. I was really expecting a lot from this jacket and maybe that’s on me, but for the price I’m not loving it.
