Dog Evac Kit
We are after our first attempts with this system. We move a lot in difficult terrain with a rucksack, so we wanted a lightweight set-up.
Darkness is a young male ACD. He weighs 22kg (approx. 49 pounds ) .
It is advisable to watch the video carefully and then check the way to put the system on that best suits the situation. Despite the very clear markings, I managed to get the harness wrong :) .
From our first experience, in difficult terrain, it is safer to put the system on the rescuer first and then on the dog.
If the rescuer is wearing his backpack, he should put it on before picking up the dog.

Love the peace of mind
I thankfully haven’t had to use this but I love the peace of mind it gives me for when I take my 50lb pup out for a hike. I appreciate how it’s self contained and doesn’t take much space.

You need this if you spend time in the mountains with your dogs!
I was so excited to see the Ruffwear BackTrack Dog Evacuation Kit! I had seen similar products from other companies but didn’t invest in an emergency dog stretcher until Ruffwear came out with this. It’s very well made, and fits compactly into any backpack. We hike with our dogs year round and being able to pack an injured dog out of the mountains is a serious concern. I love everything about this, down to the smallest details (like the soft muzzle that’s included because they know even the sweetest pups will bite when they are injured/hurt). It’s a comfortable fit for my dogs, and makes carrying a 35+ pound dog for 5+ miles down a steep mountain trail actually possible. Highly recommend measuring your dog before you buy to make sure this will work like it’s supposed to. Very happy with this purchase, thank you Ruffwear!!
