Why We Like The KICKR Bike

If you're looking for the most immersive indoor training experience you can get, the KICKR Bike may be your best bet. With innovative features like real-time gradient adjustment, customizable gearing, and simulated shifting and braking, it's the closest thing to outdoor riding that we've tried to date. I mean, the front of the bike literally raises and lowers in response to terrain. And with 5-points of adjustability, you can match the geometry of your current road bike, or even input your professional fit data using the Wahoo Fitness to find your perfect fit. Next, pair the KICKR bike with interactive apps like Zwift or TrainerRoad to complete your riding experience.

The obvious goal with the Wahoo KICKR Bike is to mimic the feeling of cycling on the open road, and it starts with real-time grade changes that elevate or lower the bike to match ascents of up to 20% and descents down to -15%. The response is automatic when paired with apps like Zwift, but you can also adjust the gradient manually. The shift levers can be customized to match the controls of Shimano, SRAM, and Campagnolo, and you can even program the gearing to match the exact gear ratios, number of speeds, and cassette tooth count you'd normally run from these manufacturers. The flywheel itself matches the power and inertia of outdoor riding for a realistic ride feel, and there's virtual braking too, allowing the brake levers to electronically control the flywheel and motor to allow quick, precise braking that matches the feeling of a real road bike.

Wahoo also took bike fit into account when designing the KICKR Bike, bringing you 5-points of adjustability so you can get a personalized fit. Easily accessible quick-release levers allow you to adjust the stack, reach, saddle setback, saddle height, and frame height. The Wahoo Fitness app is used to set up the bike, and will easily guide you through this process by allowing you to input professional fit data, take a photo to measure your bike, or enter body measurements to customize the fit to the exact geometry of your outdoor bike. The crank arm length is adjustable in five increments from 165 to 175mm, and you can choose to run your own handlebars, saddle, and pedals, if desired.

The drive system uses the renowned KICKR flywheel technology for a responsive and realistic pedaling feel, along with quiet operation that's much less obtrusive than noisy trainers of the past. An integrated power meter measures wattage with +/- 1% accuracy, and you never have to worry about calibrating it to maintain that accuracy. As you might expect, the KICKR Bike also measures speed, distance, and cadence without the need for any additional sensors. A digital LED display indicates your gear selection and grade percentage, so you can get information with just a quick glance during the course of your ride.

The KICKR Bike integrates seamlessly with other Wahoo products such as the ELEMNT GPS bike computer, the TICKR heart rate monitor, and the KICKR Headwind training fan. Pairing it with the KICKR Headwind brings actual climate control to your ride, because as your speed or heart rate increases, so will the fan speed. The KICKR Bike doesn't just work exclusively with Wahoo products though, as you can connect it to virtually any smartphone, GPS, tablet, or computer thanks to Bluetooth, ANT+, and ANT+ FE-C connection capabilities. The bike supports up to three simultaneous Bluetooth connections for a trouble-free start to your workout. It works with all of your favorite training apps such as Zwift, TrainerRoad, and The Sufferfest, and comes with numerous 30 - 60-day free trials of these apps (and more) so you can get started without paying extra for subscriptions.

Very happy (so far)...

I bought my Kickr Bike nearly 2 months ago and have ridden it maybe every other day since. I hesitated before buying the Kickr Bike, not only because of price (although that was a factor), but also because I had purchased a Kickr Core trainer last year and had problems with it from the start. The Kickr Core worked well for the first ride but after that, nothing could be recorded, the trainer couldn't be calibrated, and in general, the electronics were nonfunctional. I didn't need the hassle so returned the trainer. However, I have nothing but good things to say (so far) about the Kickr Bike. Putting the bike together from the shipping crate was simple and set up and adjustment of the bike was quick and easy using the Wahoo app. The bike is very quiet and pedaling is smooth. The feel, power measurements, and effort on the Kickr Bike pretty accurately mirror what I feel on the road. I have read complaints about the seat and handlebars being cheap/uncomfortable, but I don't have any problem with these components. However, I keep my rides in the 90 minute to 2 hour range, so that may be a factor. I generally ride the Kickr Bike while using Zwift and the integration of the bike with Zwift is great. I am happy that I splurged on this purchase. It has worked great (so far) and riding this trainer with Zwift sure beats riding in the cold!

Really enjoying riding indoors

This bike has been working great for us. We have over 100 workouts to date. My wife and I ride pretty much the same setup so we are not having to adjust the bike. Yes, the seat was not comfortable and needed to be replaced but I expected that. Also had to wrap the bars with some better bar tape, not a big deal. It was creaking quite a bit and I discovered that it was coming from the lever to tighten up the standover adjustment. Don't over tighten it, just snug and no more creaking. Also had to buy a dongle to get the bike to connect to our PC. Using Rouvy most of the time and really enjoying the experience.

Amazing in the concept!!

My husband and I are both avid cyclists and now live in Arizona in a very high wind area. We bought this Bike almost 3 months ago and we both use it at least 4 times a week each for rides of at least 30 miles. The concept is fantastic, this expensive bike simulator is quite simply "the bomb". It's very realistic and when paired with Zwift, it becomes great fun taking the boredom factor out of indoor training. What doesn't live up to expectations are indeed the parts, just like everyone else is saying. The saddle felt awful to both me and my husband from the beginning and immediately had to go. But we also have a problem with the seat post, which keeps sliding down! My husband has no choice but to tighten the quick release as much as possible to prevent it from sliding down and it finally broke as he was riding. He's 175 lbs. and I'm 142. It probably also had something to do with the fact that we have to keep adjusting the seat, but it's also true that this kind of bike should be made to whitstand this type of consistent usage! When the quick release snapped we observed that it's very thin and very cheaply made. This is a disappointment in such a beautiful piece of machinery. We called Wahoo and they promptly sent a replacement that is just as cheap, so we can't help wondering how long this piece will last. Time will tell. I would give them 5 stars but Wahoo fell short. Now ask me: would I buy it again? ABSOLUTELY!!

Great indoor trainer

Familiarity:

I bought this when I decided to get more serious about structured training. It's been fantastic and training in ERG mode has been eye opening for me. The resistance is very smooth and pedaling feels very good, like riding on the road. The bike itself feels of high quality. I did replace the saddle right away as the one it comes with is not comfortable for me. The bike is relatively stable. It is heavy but it does rock slightly from side to side if you really start pushing. The rocking hasn't proved to be an issue for me and overall I'm satisfied with the stability of the bike. You do need a level floor to put this on. Works well with my wahoo ELEMNT or the wahoo iPhone app. Need two people if you intend to take this up or down stairs.

Pros and Cons.....

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

If you are committed to indoor training and you are willing to invest a good deal of money, then this is the product for you. I really like the fact that it integrates almost seamlessly with third party apps like Zwift, Rouvy, Sufferfest, etc. and it makes your virtual experience amazing. There is a learning curve to getting used to how the product works (it took me a few weeks to dial in the fit, gearing, etc). Pros: - Software updates easily with the app (i love being able to customize my gearing through the app) - Integrates and connects to third party apps very easily - Relatively quiet (don't be fooled though, it's not "virtually silent") - about as loud as a microwave but it can get loud at certain speeds/cadences - Makes for a very immersive and realistic ride - ERG mode works well and is forgiving if you fall behind Cons: - Expensive - Saddle and handlebars uncomfortable (disappointing for the price) - you can switch out parts (i had to switch out saddle and stem to get the right fit) but would expect more for the price; my much cheaper spin bikes fit better out of the box - Noise at certain speeds - Some riders may find that their inner thighs rub on the frame - Less stable than my other indoor bikes - will get rocking a little bit when standing/sprinting (I'm a small 125 pounds)
