I've been wearing this shell for the last few weeks of a Chicago winter/spring and found it to be a versatile piece between layering a fleece or down puffer. It's windproof and waterproof as designed. The material is interesting, with almost a brushed finish that's also stiff which reminds me of a waxed cotton jacket, but it seems to be breaking in nicely. The hood adjustments are nice but the drawstrings have no cinching capability and seem to stay in place only by friction. The cuffs have a hook/loop strap that works fine. The elastic drawstring at the bottom hem is elastic and can only be adjusted from one side. The problem is that after you pull the drawstring, it's nearly impossible to pull it back out (took about 20 minutes). The fit is on the athletic/slim side and longer than what the picture would indicate. It's definitely a parka style, not a jacket. Overall, the look is pretty cool and the black on black logo is a nice touch. Five stars minus one star for the bottom hem drawstring. Make this into a jacket length and add retention tabs to the hood drawstring and fix the bottom drawstring and I might have to buy another one.

So I bought the Helly Hansen Odin 9 Worlds Infinity 3L Jacket last year (which is more of a general hardshell) than snowsport specific and I think I'm going with that one instead of this one, which is a shame. Fit/form factor: I love the HH grey fog color and that's why I bought these 2. But this particular one is a bit wider and longer than the Odin 9 world, which makes me look a bit big. I get it, bigger for wider range of motion for snow sports. But the bigger issue is that bad design of the snow skirt. It's 2 hooks on each side. I'm 160 lbs and need it at the smallest position, and when I do that, because of the wideness of the jacket, it just bunches out and looks dumb. And the skirt is still not very tight even at the tightest position. It's also definitly wider then the HH crew jackets. Additionally, this does not have any wrist gaiters - which kinda forces you to get over the cuff gloves. You'd imagine that's basically a requirement for ski/snowboard jacket. Descente includes them so definitely it's not a skill based thing. Even so, without it, I wonder if I can take it to extreme environements as the goal also is to keep wind out (not just snow) I do like that this one has several inside pockets as well as more common sense outside pockets compared to the Odin 9 world. Also the hood for this one is BIGGER than the 9world, which is a good thing because it actually makes it helmet compatible, unlike the 9 world, which doesn't really fit properly if you have a big head and have a big helmet. ----- Haven't tested this one outdoors yet, but since it's HH, I'm buying it more for the style than the function. I bought the Odin 9 world grey fog pants, but one of the small buttons popped just from trying it on and unbuttoning, so I'm not really trusting this brand to hold up in the long run. Had to return that one. Additionally, people tend to question HHs waterproof ability. But I know that and I'm just here to get a stylish grey jump suit. I think for now I'll just keep the Odin 9 jacket and buy snow pants with a bib to keep snow out. Don't feel like going with Montec for style lol Still waiting for trustworthy HH grey fog snow pants (with gaiters)... And maybe a grey helmet that matches - eying some giros
