Lowa  Renegade GTX Mid Hiking Boots - Women's

I broke these in on Mt. Baldy, 11 miles with 4000' elevation gain in one direction, wearing liners and light wool hiking socks. I was told I was an 8.5 and got these in a size 9 -- I had no blisters and they were comfortable and stable throughout the ascent and descent of the hike. I had just hiked Mt. Whitney in them in one day with large snow patches and they were stable throughout the terrain. There were some steep slopes and icy parts of the trail, and I remained sure footed with the great traction these shoes had. Ankle support is awesome and these shoes are just so comfortable (oh and no blisters/tender toes afterwards!)

I bought these boots twice because they are so lightweight and comfortable, and was hopeful that the problems I had with my original pair had been corrected. I see in other reviews that I am not the only one who has experienced the molding around the toe breaking apart and separating from the upper. Last weekend I caught my foot under a root which tore the upper. Bought these last Memorial Day weekend. While they are very comfortable, I can't justify the expense to replace them as frequently as they wear out (my first pair also wore out in less than a year). I hike every weekend and need a tougher boot. Any suggestions?
