not overly impressed.

Bolts dont stay in place, need two people when attaching them as they move about when tightening them. the tube plug bullets pop out and got lost on the 1st time using the rack system.

Somewhat happy with purchase

Not happy with some of the parts on this unit. The black end caps that are inserted into the lower sections of the tubular J-hooks have fallen out. This happened on my last pair that I bought. I was also very careful to try and protect them, but to no avail.

Simple and robust

We used our new Thule Hull-a-Port carrier for the first time this past weekend and are really pleased with the purchase. It was easy to install on our rack, very simple to use, and made loading the kayak a breeze. We've had a Compass 4-in-1 rack for a while, which we've used to carry our two boats, but addition of the Hull-a-Port allows us to use them both as J carriers on each side of the car--so much better on our backs than hoisting them onto the midpoint of the roof. Another great Thule product.

Great quality product

This is a great quality kayak rack that fit perfectly on my Thule square bars roof rack. I've already used it to transport my kayak several hundred problem free kilometers. It attaches or detaches quickly and easily although I wish it came with a locking mechanism so I didn't have to remove it, but it's not a huge deal. A bit pricey for what it is in my humble opinion.

Perfect fit on my Honda factory crossbars

First tried a cheap imported "universal" knockoff and it didn't even come close to fitting my factory crossbars. Then got the real thing from Thule and it fit perfectly and included high quality straps and bow/stern lines. Very easy to install and load.

Rack As Advertised, Bolts Not So Much

The rack and mounts are all high quality and perform as expected. The bolts were too short for an older Thule square/rectangular bar. I tried several hardware stores looking for longer carriage bolts in this metric size but to no avail. Converted everything to 0.25” hardware. Worked but lost the value of the hardware that came with the rack. Thule, if the bolts were just a few cm longer, they would truly be universal among your bars.

Super Strong and Easy to Install and Remove

i have the rack set and it works perfectly for my Sequoia cross rails (admittedly they are thin and the bolt length isn't an issue). They are easy on and off so be careful leaving them on for extended times when not in use! Great set and very secure with the 12' Thule straps. The foam pads on the lower legs could stand to be a little longer but that's not a deal-breaker for me. The upper pads slide up and down to catch the hull of your kayak nicely. I found zip strips under them on the upright members hold them in place perfectly. Nice easily-stored product for transporting your yaks!

Wish I read these before buying

Bolts are too short to attach to cross bars, so just ordered longer ones, now after reading review of new & not so improved, wishing I ordered bolts with a head for allen wrench, must of been a cost saving measure. What happens when you loose one of those "wing nuts" to tighten bolts

New and improved? Not!

I have the current design and an older version. The old design was stable and worked well. How did they ruin it. Let me count the ways. The old version had to parallel bars for clamping under the roof rack. The new one has one piece that runs on a diagonal. They saved a piece of metal and sacrificed stability. The bolts on the old one had allen wrench or screw heads and a butterfly bolt on for tightening. If necessary, you could use the allen wrench or a screw driver to hold the bolt while tightening. The new design has smooth heads on the top. All you can do is turn the butterfly bolt while the screw spins. Useless. Lastly the older "J" had a loop at the bottom instead of being open ended. It was a good place to secure straps. Now I have to attach to the roof rack itself. Would I purchase again. No. Got any of the old ones in stock. I would buy those. Just sayin'.
