Flipfuel Fuel Transfer Device
Carry a full fuel canister on every trip with the innovative Flipfuel Fuel Transfer device—it makes it easy to transfer leftover fuel from one partially filled isobutane canister to another.

- Place receiving canister in the freezer, ice chest or a cool shaded area; place sending canister in the sun
- Wait 5–10 min.; this allows the fuel canisters to create a temperature differential that facilitates the transfer
- Thread canisters onto Flipfuel device with sending canister on top side ("OUT") and receiving canister on bottom side ("IN"); hand tighten
- Open valve to transfer fuel; once fuel transfer is complete, close valve and detach isobutane fuel canisters
- Note: Be sure to not overfill canisters, as they may function improperly; a digital scale (not included) is the best way to ensure you do not exceed the canister's limit
- Only transfer fuel between 2 canisters of the same brand and model
- Fuel canisters not included
Imported.

Works Exactly as Described
First glance, feels like a quality sturdy product yet lightweight. The instructions were easy to follow. I ended up creating 4 full canisters out of a bunch of partially empty fuel cans I've been accumulating for years. It's a great addition to my kit, and I'm happy with my purchase. I plan on using this at home, but I've seen people using them on the trail to top of their fuel from hiker boxes. It's definitely light enough to carry. Cheers!
Awesome product!
Awesome product! I never buy small fuel canisters anymore, I just reuse the same one over and over, refilling it after each trip from a large canister (which costs much less, per ounce of fuel). A couple of tips - you may have to repeat the transfer process several times to get every last drop of fuel out of the sending canister. Also, make sure when attaching the canisters on that each canister is upright as you screw it on. Otherwise it might leak fuel as you screw it on.
Finally!
Glad to see that REI is finally carrying this device, which has been available elsewhere for some time. I have now easily and successfully topped off several partially full small isobutane canisters, using more cost-effective large-volume canisters as donors. The system is simple, although watching a couple of videos bolsters one's confidence before actually attempting a transfer for the first time. I tend to be conservative when dealing with things that could explode, so I transfer fuel in 5-10 second intervals and weigh the receiving can between each addition. I also fill only to 80-90% of original capacity, just to be safe. This product makes a lot of environmental sense. Even though aluminum isobutane canisters are recyclable when empty, they are often just tossed into the garbage. Now it is easier to reuse all those small canisters several times before finally puncturing and recycling. Good job, REI!
Very easy to use.
After the fuel was transferred, there were a few grams left in the sending canister -- just enough that I could still hear it sloshing in the can. Could be I didn't heat or cool the canisters enough. So, user error. :p This is a great little tool. Highly recommend.
Consolidating partial canisters
Great to use all the fuel in those partial canisters.
Works but needs better instructions.
Works as intended. I wasn’t able to completely empty the canister that I was transferring from but it was mostly empty. The only annoying thing about this product is the instructions are severely lacking in important details and you need to go on to YouTube to find some videos on how to use it. Also, you need a scale to weight the canister that you are transferring to so you don’t overfill. Overall I’m happy with it but could use better instructions.
Small, light, and Very Useful
This is one of the most useful camp devices that REI offers. I've been able to consolidate all my own cannisters as well as my daughter's, and that makes a bit more room in the camp boxes at home and allows us to start trips with the confidence that comes with knowing that we have good fuel loads. Well done to the folks at Flipfuel!
Flipfuel No more trips with multiple fuel caniste!
I had heard about the flip fuel device from people that I had met while camping. Most of the people who I have met in the backcountry use stoves that use fuel canisters. We all shared the problem of bringing partial fuel canisters home from a camping trip. One person that I happened on one of my camping trips suggested trying the flip fuel system to consolidate my partial fuel canisters. I was all in on the idea of being able to use all of the fuel in my various canisters. I purchased the flip fuel product and the rest is history. From now on I will know beforehand that I have a full fuel canister when I head into the woods. No more carrying multiple canisters when I head out on a backpacking trip.
Easy money saver
Follow the simple instructions and it works great. Allowed me to consolidate a bunch of mostly used fuel canisters into one full 8 oz canister.
