Why We Like The Elixir Tent

Prefer moving under your own power? The superlight, wildly livable Elixir Tent from MSR may force you to spend a few extra days at the lake. We appreciate the rugged 70D nylon on the bottom getting a shot of endurance from 3000mm polyurethane and DWR coatings. The body mixes mesh with solid fabric to keep you cool when it's warm, warm when it's cool, and dry no matter the temp outside. Made from 68D ripstop polyester and with taped seams, the DWR-treated fly lets fresh air flow without sharing such freedom with the rain. Two strong but light aluminum poles turn this mass of fabric into a delightfully spacious mobile abode. When winds threaten to blow your tent down, firm up your foundation by using the included six stakes.

Similar rain fly issues

Similar to other reviews, my rain fly is starting to fail apart. Seam tape is peeling, the fly feels "sticky", and it's starting to flake apart. Maybe the fly and tent were manufactured separately negate the tent is holding up great. Super great tent... good size for 2, perfect for 1 person if you don't mind the extra weight. Have used this in snow and it held up great. Hopefully I can get the fly issue sorted out or I'll have to look for a replacement system.

I work as a camera

I work as a camera operator for natural history films and much of my work is in remote and inhospitable environments. MSR tents are the only tents I have seen consistently hold up in extreme high winds. These are the only tents manufacturer I will use in the field after having other tents fail on location leaving me in a difficult situation with a broken shelter in a remote location.

Great entry level tent

The Elixir is easy to set up, very roomy, and has good ventilation features.

Great tent, poor rain fly

Have been using the tent for for a few years now (at least 10 trips), and it’s been working well overall. The zippers are a little delicate and showing some strain on the seams. Like some reviews have mentioned, the rain fly has shown the most wear. The seam tape is falling apart, and the fly is no longer water resistant. I sent it in to the repair shop in Seattle and they sent it right back saying “new fly”.

Elixir 2P Tent!

Took the Elixir 2p out as soon as I got it. Camping trip for the weekend, rained on and off and the tent held up great. Very high quality stuff from MSR, as usual!

Seal tape and plastic parts

I bought this tent in 2017 and was initially happy with it. However, with time I discovered that it is a bit poorly built. About 4-5 years after, all seal tapes started to come off, making my tent a leaking mess. Also note that the fly is secured to the base tarp via plastic clip. Of course, one broke on my tent, and guess what, msr does not sell replacement parts (!!!!!), which makes for a pain to find a fix. I would have happily purchased a replacement fly, as all of my issues relate to my fly, but nope, msr would rather have you buy another full tent.

This tent is fantastic! I

This tent is fantastic! I had solid rain through the day and night- tent was sitting in a puddle- and I was warm and dry all night. Setup is easy. The vent/screen with space between the rain fly and the tent makes for good airflow and temperature regulation even while it's closed in for long periods. I'm an MSR tent customer for life.

Yes, you should buy one!

I put this tent through the ringer, 28 day canoe trip in northern Ontario and Manitoba. Lots of rain and high winds, quick to pitch/strike kept me dry and held up well. This is my second 2 person tent in 15 years, my last tent was a Zoid 2. I fully expect this tent to last just as long. I trust and obviously support msr when it comes to quality and dependability when it matters.
