Excellent outdoor vest
I was looking for a vest for my walk-workout and to travel to cooler climates and it is mission accomplished with this vest. I would consider this a heavy vest in that it is very warm when working out. I've worn it under a light warm-up jacket and with only a long-sleeve shirt both in mid-50's degree slightly windy situations and I've been very comfortable. As with any type of layering, all that's needed is to open the zipper to vent and let in cooler air. I've seen a complaint about the 'wing' collar but the extra material is needed to make a collar that covers the neck when fully zipped. When not fully zipped, I press the collar down or just let it be. To me it's a minor issue and a function of a full collar.
New Patagonia neck style doesn't cut it.
The new neck style is too high. When unzipped it feels and looks like you have wings on. When zipped it comes up np your nose. The old style is much better
Fair value, but a funky, misrendered color.
I have had a couple of these down "sweaters" (vests, actually) from Patagonia over the years, and have found them to be very useful-- warm, versatile, durable. It was getting time to replace my most recent one, so I jumped right on the sale-priced one. I am satisfied that this down vest will continue to be a cold weather staple, with one caveat, and it's not a small one: Patagonia's off colors. Instead of producing normal colors, Patagonia's product designers skew toward strange variations of normal outerwear colors. I selected the Sedge Green because it rendered on REI's site as more of a normal fatigue-colored garment. Upon arrival, I am disappointed to discover that the 'green' is a soft, feminine, quasi-pastel. Not unwearable, but it's not exactly the look I want to project either. I'll cop to the fact that I have been suckered on Patagonia merch before with 'bargain' prices and chump colors, so this is a fool me twice type situation. But as God is my witness, it will be the last.
Doesn't Perform as Advertised
The page for this product says that "Its toasty-warm goose down and water-repellent finish keep you comfy in changing conditions." That hasn't been my experience. The layer of down isn't enough to stay warm. I chill easily while wearing this vest. Plus, instead of being water repellant, water soaks right into the fabric. Maybe, mine is defective? Or, maybe, somebody attached the copy for another product to this product by accident? It is an attractive vest and it fits well. Plus, it is effective at blocking the wind. Not totally bad. But doesn't perform as advertised.
Versatile Wardrobe Must-Have
I purchased this for my husband in an XL. Size fits standard for an XL. I have worn the women's version of this vest for years. With our outdoor lifestyle and living in Minnesota, this vest is definitely a versatile wardrobe staple. It's thin enough to wear under another jacket or provides just the right amount of warmth to wear on it's own with a long-sleeve t-shirt or turtleneck.
Awesome Vest
Love this vest, it is very warm and comfy. The pockets are so soft and warm. It packs up supper light and compact so perfect for travel. Was hesitant for the price, but know I will have it for my entire life, so worth the purchase.
Fantastic vest
My second vest in my collection. I really like this piece. Keeps you warm but not too warm as your arms are exposed and can "regulate" heat. Is a must have for the unpredictable and micro-climates of living in the Bay Area.
Love the inside pockets
The vest is comfortable and warm. It fits well, but is tight around the hips and I am not overweight. I absolutely love all of the inside pockets.
Medium is a bit snug.
excellent quality. 5'11'' tall, 152 lbs, 38' chest. Medium size is a little snug but I will keep it.
Great addition!
Fits nice, feels nice, looks nice, and it's just warm enough, so you don't have to wear a coat.
