Save Your Money
Ordered 4 pairs, by the time I opened the 3rd box, I had already opened and worn the first 2, so unfortunately I can't return them. The 3rd pair had a good size hole right under the band. I immediately returned it and the other unopened package, as this made me doubt their quality overall (not sure how that made it past QC). I have worn the other two pairs several times now, and, BUYER BEWARE: the legs on these things will walk right up and bunch up with any moderate activity. Also, there is massive seam that runs right up the middle of the backside...causing a constant wedgie. If I could send the other pairs back, I would.
Fabric not comfortable
I love wool, especially as a base layer. In my search for the best wool underwear I tried Smartwool, Icebreaker, and Meriwool. I didn't like how thin and fragile Smartwool felt. The Icebreakers, while comfortable, kept riding up my thighs, which led to bunching under shorts or pants. Also, they didn't have that typical soft, smooth feeling of Merino wool. I think it's because of the higher percentage of synthetic material. The Meriwool was perfect (wished REI sold their products). I already own a number of Meriwool products, so I wasn't surprised at how good their underwear felt. They are 100% wool and feel like it. I did wear each brand for a month to really test it out.
My new favorite underwear
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've worn patagonia underwear and practically everything else for decades. I also purchased a lot of icebreaker products--teeshirts, long sleeve heavyweight shirts, a hoody--when the company first came out, thanks to Rock and Snow, New Paltz, NY. And now, the underwear. I don't know why I waited, but anyway, they feel great, fit great, I bought 6 pairs. I wear them with suits and any outdoor gear. I'm 63, 5'9" 180 so extralarge fit great. I don't like a tight fit and this was just right for my 35-37 inch waist, depending on how recently I've been to New Orleans. The fly works effortlessly and length is good. They feel very light and you can kind of forget you have them on.
My year-round, go-to underwear
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I went through a phase of trying all different kinds of underwear. I finally found these which have been my year-round, go-to pair ever since. I live in Texas, and I tend to sweat a lot in the summer time, and these do a great job of keeping me as dry and cool as possible. If I'm ever in a pinch and have to wear them 2 days in a row, they stay stink-free. My size is XL. I'm 5 foot 8 inches and weigh right around 200 pounds. Also, I always let them air dry, or stick them in the dryer for a very short amount of time on delicate. I don't want to take any chances of them shrinking, and it helps them last longer.
Not as good as previous versions
I have several pair of merino underwear from Icebreaker and Smartwool and they are incredible- changed my bike riding life. These just purchased are 40% synthetic and they feel like 100% synthetic. Clammy and hold persperation in the fabric. If you like sythetic then save $ and buy REI brand synthetic, if you love merino wool don't buy these. Rated three stars as I'm sure they are better than cotton, but they do not have the qualities of wool underwear that I am used to.
Very Short Lived
I loved these boxers at first and bought several pairs, but within a year every single pair I owned completely wore out in the crotch. It became a joke with my wife. Has to trash them all.
The Best Unmentionables
Absolutely love the fit of these. They hold everything in place and are extremely comfortable on the skin. They don’t shed as much as some others when doing high output activities either. So far I have used these for yoga, running, biking, climbing, snowboarding as well as casually and they perform better than cotton in every situation (and no holes yet!) The elastic also seems to last a little longer than most boxers to me, it usually stretches out pretty quickly with other brands, but I find myself putting on a pair from a year ago that still feels like brand new
Excellent
Received them yesterday. Put them on for a test. Very comfortable. I wish they also make a pair thicker and warmer ones, with like 200 or 250 weight, that I'd like to wear for winter hiking / backpacking.
Did anyone mention they ride up??
Yeah... I should have known better. I'm stuck with 2 pairs of these. They ride up more than any other pair of boxer briefs I own. Really disappointed. I'd purchased a similar pair from Icebreaker many years ago and had the same problem. I was hopeful they'd resolved the issue based on some positive reviews. Not so much for me. I like the fabric and overall look, but the only boxer briefs from Icebreaker that work reasonably well for me are the Anatomica Long Boxers. They lose their shape a bit over time, but they don't ride up like these.
