Amazing for trips
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We love the Yakima Skybox. We are a large family and travel in my minivan. A large family of 8 traveling with a baby, we need all the space we can get. My van is equipped with the roof rack, so the skybox attaches right away and easily. It held all of our luggage! Not to mention, it opens on the box side and comes with 2 keys. It is super easy to install and very light, easy for 2 people to carry and attach. By far, this is a travel essential.
best in class cargo unit
This is a great cargo box for road trips. I did a lot of research and glad I picked the NX 18. It really does have great space. We recently took a trip to Florida and it fit 4 large carry on luggage with little bit of space left. I’m glad I went with the 18 and not the 16. I think it’s worth it for the extra space. The biggest surprise to me was the aerodynamics. Really not much of MPG loss. The only complaint I have is with the store pickup at REI. They did not give me a brand new in the box. They gave me a floor unit and it has some really deep scratches on it. At this price point I wish I got one brand new in the box.
Great storage space
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a great product for SUVs, installation is very easy and we could fit a lot inside. We are a family of 5 and we were able to travel and pack all of our stuff. We had 3 carryons and some small bags around and we also were able to fit my daughter’s scooter! It’s very sturdy and also water proof we drove 20 hours total and had some pretty rough weather along the way.

I love my Skybox NX18. Easy to install and remove. Great amount of additional space accessible from both sides, easy to open and close. Very little wind noise if any and no appreciable reduction in gas milage.
yes, suitcases fit!
I bought this for a Xmas trip with the fam. Four carry-on sized suitcases easily fit in it, with room left over for squishy things. Just be careful of weight limits for your roof. It is not technically waterproof, but… It rained for 350 miles, hard, with a wind advisory, and everything up there stayed dry on this trip. I can say the cargo carrier turned my car into a high profile vehicle in the wind advisory. Managable, but definitely A Real Thing. Fuel economy took a hit, but nothing so dramatic as to make it worth renting a larger car (which was our plan b) or taking two cars (plan c). REI staff helped me get it on the roof, great purchase experience!
Great product
iI was worried at first but it fits just fine on my 2018 Subaru Crosstrek. I bought it because I liked the design and size better than the competitors at the price point and so far it does what I need it to do. The box was easy to install and the locking/unlocking mechanism has been great so far. I would recommend.
Love this addition for roadtrips with family

Pros: ✅ Huge 18 cu ft capacity—perfect for family trips ✅ Opens from both sides, super convenient ✅ Solid build and secure locks ✅ Surprisingly quiet—even at highway speeds ✅ Easy to install on Tesla crossbars ✅ Doesn’t feel too heavy for the glass roof Cons: ❌ Big to store when not in use ❌ Range hit (like any rooftop box), but not too bad Overall, it’s totally worth it if you need more space for your Tesla adventures. Stylish, functional, and makes road trips so much easier!
Handy and strong roof box
Took this on an 800 mile total road trip so we could fit more people in the car (2020 Subaru Ascent). Great capacity, straightforward install, and, most importantly, after about 3 hours driving through absolutely torrential rain, all of the luggage was as dry as a bone. Happy with this overall and while the entry cost is pretty high (needed the crossbars and towers as well) it's nice having this for when I need it. I was also worried that it would be a big drain on MPG but I didn't notice a material difference, maybe a few tenths according to the car's calculations. Would recommend.
Great Purchase
We purchased this cargo box for our 2016 Honda Odyssey in early 2023. Install was incredibly easy (we already had roof rack on our van). It is a big cargo box, but my wife and I are easily able to tag team lifting it onto the van. We put 10,000 miles into this cargo box last year, and you wouldn't be able to tell. It took rain and snow, and everything inside stayed completely dry. We use this to carry luggage as we are a large family. This cargo box is huge and has held 1 large duffel bag, 2 pack and plays, 2 smaller duffel bags, and a box of diapers. It did all of this easily! Definitely one of the best purchases we made last year! Highly recommend this product!
Great for travel!
I bought this box marked down it had some pretty severe scratches it was damaged in shipment to the store. The scratches were cosmetic and the box did much better than I expected plenty of space for luggage and gear for a 7 day getaway for family of 3 and 2 dogs. I drove over 3k miles with it strapped Ib top of my Subaru gas mileage was decreased but that should be expected and I had it stuffed. It is pretty easy to use it’s really better to have someone help you put it on but I probably could’ve managed on my own. Overall one of the best purchases I made for this journey.
