Great General walking/hiking boots

This is a long term review. I bought these shoes in 2009. I just replaced them with the Keen Voyagers because I wanted more ventilation. In the picture below you can see how the tread wore down over the years vs my brand new voyager shoe. I was very happy with how my old shoes held up. It's the reason I bought another pair of Keens. Not sure if the quality or build has changed in the last 8 years, but if it's as good as my old pair, I will be very happy.
I'm not a professional hiker, or really even an amateur hiker. I hike a few times a year. Maybe 5 to 10 mile hikes in Yosemite, or the like. What I mostly use them for is walking around cities/towns when I travel, general usage when I'm at home, etc. They have been great for the uses I have/need. The tread is pretty grippy for rocks, dirt, trails, etc. Extremely comfortable! Most comfortable shoes I've ever owned!
The other photos you see are how the shoe wore from the top. You can definitely see the leather wearing, but nothing came apart. Nothing was fixed/replaced. I also did zero upkeep or care for the shoes (e.g. no leather care, conditioning, etc.). The most cleaning they ever got was a hose if they were muddy. The only thing I ever did was change the shoe laces. I view these type of shoes to be worn and used without having to do upkeep in addition. I would say based on how poorly I took care of these shoes, and how well they look after 8 years says a lot. These shoes have probably somewhere between 2000 and 3000 miles on them. Again, I would say 95% of that is normal street/city/town walking, 5% trails/hiking. I also occasionally use them riding my dirt bike or street bike, which they are fine for as well.

Comfort but poor durability.

HOW TO USE: These boots have a large sole area, and so would be great for snow or sand or, perhaps pine needles. On rocks and gravel, the sole feels too wide, and catches on edges when you'd prefer it did not.
PROS: Comfortable and lightweight and available in a design suitable for people with wide forefeet and not-so-wide heels.
CONS: NOT, let me repeat, NOT durable. After 4 days of 3 hour walks on a slightly stoney trail, I noticed that the "fingers" of the sole were coming loose. Thereafter, I would either super-glue or epoxy them back into place every few days. Luckily I carry these adhesives in my kit. These newer bonds would then fail because the material under the black sole material would break away.
I have gone though dozens of peirs of climbing boots, and never had anything like this happen before. I was genuinely concerned that I would be stuck on some mountain in Turkey with no usable boots to walk back on. I mean, comfort is important. Waterproofing is important, but basic durability is the one thing that one has to reply on absolutly. I would never ever consider purchasing a Keen product after this, and I am a bit disappointed that REI carries them.

Very Comfortable, But Not Durable
I walked 300 miles on the Camino with these boots. They were comfortable right out of the box & needed no break in period. I bought a full size bigger than my street shoes and the wide toe box really worked for me. I experienced no blisters, no turned ankles and had just 1 toenail turn black but that's probably due to sloppy lacing on my part. After about 200 miles on the Camino, my feet felt more tired at the end of a 15 mile day than during the earlier days and I started to feel every cobblestone. This could be due to the outsoles wearing out. As you can see from the pictures, the outsole of the heel is totally gone and the midsole is worn out too. The rest of the shoe is in good shape: no delaminations, no loose stitches and it still holds off water.
Pros: - very comfortable, both heel and forefoot
- lacing secures the foot really well.
- very good ankle support
- good waterproof membrane
- durable uppers
Cons: - not durable outsole
- nauseating chemical-mixed-with-foot-sweat stink after 100 miles
- not very breathable
- outsole lugs not deep or aggressive enough for downhill loose gravel
I got what I wanted from these boots. They carried me in comfort for 300 miles of mixed forest trails, pavement, cobblestones, city sidewalks and loose gravel. Totally worn out boots at the end of a Camino is a small price to pay for having no blisters and foot injuries while carrying a 20 lb pack. I recommend them and will buy Keen boots again, although I'll go for a more durable one, maybe the EXP, for a longer Camino.

Most comfortable shoes I have ever worn!
I have several pairs. They don’t last, waterproof - not, but they are like slippers to wear and inexpensive. Great for hiking, work, and anything that doesn’t require wearing a tie. The newer versions are junk. This version, despite its flaws, are amazing shoes. Keen, please stop trying to improve this shoe.

Major Improvement
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had issues with two previous pair of these boots. The soles were constructed for fashion over function and consequently did not last a year of Arizona hiking. The new pair seems to have improved the construction of the soles. Here hoping - I like fit.

Wide toebox perfect; comfortable; repeat purchase
5 years ago
This is a repeat purchase of the exact boot I got about 2 years ago. I have trouble getting a comfortable fit in boots and was glad to find the exact model still available. Keen boots have the wide toebox I need, and I also got the boot in Wide. I wore my first pair many hours each week of the year, mostly for local walks; did not do any backpacking. I needed a new pair because they were no longer waterproof and because the black rubber sole started to separate from the underlying sole.

Keen - Not so much..
First off, I hardly write reviews on products. However, this one was bad enough I couldn't not write one.
This will be the THIRD pair of this boot I have returned for almost the exact same thing. 1st was an issue with the "event" lining not being anything like a waterproof material and the sole was coming apart. Time with boot 4 months.
Number 2 sole coming apart - time 3 months.
and third boot (3rd strike) sole REALLY coming apart and fairly uncomfortable long arch to boot.. Time 3 months..
although I REALLY wanted to like this product (wide feet) I just can't keep getting boots and returning them after such a short time. Not so Keene..

Not a farm work shoe
These shoes did not last the way I hoped. Granted, I used them as a farm work boot, but they quickly broke down and lost their waterproofing within a month when the toe-tongue junction began to come apart. Then the shoe seemed to tighten up (perhaps from wetting and drying repeatedly). And from the start the laces would constantly slip and were too short for the top grommets. Within six months of use either side of both toes is completely frayed and coming apart and the sole began to fall off. Obviously not fit for hefty farm work. However I will be looking for other keen work boots or something similar because the Arroyo II (not used for farm work) has been the most comfortable and best shoe I’ve ever owned.

Less than two years without daily wear and it’s already falling apart.
