Good value and perfect
Great snowshoe and have done some descent snowshoeing
Great everyday snowshoes
I'm going into my 3rd season with these shoes. The previous 2 winters were too snow-free to use them for other in the forest around my home. Really looking forward to this year's El Niño, hoping it leaves the Nordic Center (at 8,200 ft) fully operational. I own the flotation tails and would like the chance to use them! I have found these shoes easy to put on and take off. The plastic binding remains flexible when cold. And they're rugged! With lower snow levels, I was breaking through to the underlying rocks from time to time. The shoes handled that with flying colors. Very happy with my purchase!
Winter in the White Mountains
Used these on a hike up mt Tom and mt Field. The snow was packed half way up but became loose and powdery. Slapped these on and we were crusing. No issues what so ever and the heel lifts are a total game changer. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Great snowshoes, if a bit noisy
These have been great overall. The binding system is more comfortable than the 2 strap "rachet" style binding on some of the other MSR snowshoes. Also easy to undo or adjust with gloves. Have good flotation and seem likely to be durable, though I've only had them about a month. Only complaint is that the plastic decking is much noisier than other snowshoes I've used with a softer decking material. Especially in firm snow, this can create a significant slapping sound with each step that disturbs the serenity of a mountain snowfield somewhat.
These are GREAT!
Bought these for my boyfriend, who is much more of a snowboarder than a snowshoer, but he agreed to go with me on xmas. They worked great. They were easy to put on and stayed secure the entire day! He was able to hike up steep embankments with ease. The spikes really held strong. I'm considering buying myself a pair now to replace the ones I have because these are leaps and bounds better. These are excellent snowshoes and very affordable!!
Best all around shoe
Highly recommend these!! Bought new this year and they have outperformed all other shoes. Light weight, and durable as they come
Great snowshoes
I prefer my Kahtoola microspikes on packed snow for sure, especially when sledding down. But after a fresh snow you have to wear these, or skin up on back country skis. Forget about the MSR Evo unless you plan to hike mostly on flat ground. These Evo Ascents have have a heal lift which is MANDATORY if you want to climb quickly. I bought mine in 2010 and have been hiking them to hike steep terrain in Park City every year. They're still in good shape except for the straps that are all split and cracked and they're like $40 to replace--RIP!!! In general, MSR snowshoes are the best I know of but they're really expensive. The price is FIXED so unless you find them on ebay you'll pay $200 everywhere. I would buy these again and do recommend. They're MUCH nicer than my Atlas 1030 or either pair of my Redfeathers. Once I got on these I never wear my others. But again, I love my microspikes.
good overall, straps have problems
Pros: Light, good grip even on hard snow (less so on ice), solid fit thanks locking rubber straps. The heel lifts are a nice feature on steep slopes. Cons: The redesigned strap buckles have sharp edges that cut into the toes of my boots and ruined them. The metal clips for the redesigned buckles are nonfunctional and mostly useless. The heel straps pop out of the metal clips within minutes and can get tangled up in deep snow, effectively tying my feet together. I fell a bunch of times thanks to this problem. The last time I fell I broke the metal clip (fortunately not my leg). Swapping the left snowshoe for the right, with the ends of the front straps facing in rather than out, avoids this problem. The heel lifts are noisy on flat packed snow as they flop up and down and slap into the plastic decking. Overall, I preferred the older model.
one of the best Snow Shoes you can buy
Just finished Snow Shoeing across the Sierra Nevada mountains. I have snow shoed a lot with several types of shoes and I recommend these shoes. With the heal bridge it is much easier on you legs. They are very maneuverable. Get the add on tails for when there is soft snow conditions.
Best snowshoe ever made
I've used these for 15+ years, also members of my Search and Rescue team use them unanimously. A lot of people complain about the front binding strap coming unclipped. Two simple things will eliminate this: 1) when you put them on your feet, buckle the straps to the outside, this will eliminate most of your problems. 2) on the front binding strap, take the retaining clip off and turn it around so that as you ""kick into"" the snow, the clip prevents the binding strap from moving back (and coming undone). This will solve whatever remaining problems you might encounter with these incredible shoes. Stay safe, read your avalanche daily reports! Cheers!! JP /SLCOSAR
