Limited Functionality

This does keep my neck warm and can be pulled over my mouth, although it won't hold itself, but in comparison with all other buff-type gaiters I've gotten, its function is pretty limited. I gave it four stars rather than three because it was on me to look at the measurements instead of assuming it'd be long enough to use as a full head wrap or tight enough that the stretch would ensure if used as a hatband or ear covering. The REI description only mentions the one function - protect your neck - and that's what you get. Came through machine wash just fine.

soft, and warm

I purchased this a month ago at my local REI store in North Conway NH, and have been eager to try it out since. I used it today current temp is 32, with a wind chill of 22! This neck gaitor is soft and light, but very warm. I tried it around just my neck, then to cover my face and ears, I was comfortable and warm, it worked just as well as a beanie, keeping my head warm. Despite it being lightweight, I found it to be comfortable without getting too warm. I will update when the really cold weather kicks in. I will be using for snow shoeing and winter hikes

Nice and warm

Great for keeping the sun off your face in the alpine zone and of course the wind! Kept my face protected and my neck warm during a winter hike on Mount Washington in the white mountains of New Hampshire. Another quality piece of gear from REI.

It's like a turtle neck, but better

I bought four of these, one for myself and three as gifts. My recipients were all very excited. It is very comfortable and easy on-easy off. I used to wear turtle neck pullovers all winter, but it's just not that cold these days. A gaiter is like a turtle neck but you can easily slip it on and off. One caveat--it's not really pure wool. The label says 50-50 wool and polyester.

Great for Winter Camping or Walking to Work

I bough this to sleep in during some winter tent camping so I wasn't tucking my face into my sleeping bag and creating condensation. It's great! It is comfortable and warm and did what I needed it to do without becoming wet and gross. Also, after the trip, walking to work, there were a couple days this came in handy to ward off the icy wind from my face.

Great Gaiter

I bought this for cycling and it has not disappointed. In Texas you can go from 30º to 50º in a couple of hours, it is warm enough at the start and not too hot by the end of the ride. It is very light and comfortable and well worth every penny.

Multi-purpose and effective.

Bought this when I just happened to be wandering through REI prior to a month and a half trip to Iceland and the Faroe Islands in February/March. Best spur-of-the-moment purchase I've ever made. Soft, comfortable and warm.

Light & warm, washes & dries quick. No smell. Under my helmet or around my neck keeps the wind and chill out…
