Vario: from the root of the word 'variability'. Named for its adaptability, this jacket revolutionizes ultralight backpacking without compromising warmth or comfort. It has everything you know & love about the Ventus Active Hoodie, but also has pockets, a full zipper, & more insulation.

  • Sustainable 3DeFX Insulation: Engineered with innovative 3DeFX Insulation sourced and created by Toray, the Vario Jacket offers exceptional warmth and body-mapped breathability. Made from 50% recycled fibers, this insulation maintains performance and durability, ensuring lasting loft and warmth.

Product Care

Your Ventus Active Hoodie is a high performance piece of gear. It needs some extra attention to keep it performing at the highest level.

Please read through the care instructions below to ensure that you care for it properly:

Before Washing

  • Never wash your jacket in a washing machine that has an agitator.
  • If you cannot follow either of these prior instructions you should hand wash your jacket using the detergent and drying process described below.

The Wash & Dry Process

  1. Use a mild detergent like Dreft (for babies) or Nikwax (for technical gear).
  2. Choose Low Spin or Delicate wash.
  3. Choose Cold Wash & Cold Rinse.
  4. Hang dry until the jacket is completely dry.
  5. Then loft and redistribute your insulation in the dryer by running it for 10 minutes on low or no heat with 3 dryer balls.

3DeFX Technology

Four types of spiral-shaped fibers are intertwined to give 3DeFX insulation more loft and stretchability than traditional microfiber synthetic insulations. This insulation stretches with you as you move, allowing heat to escape & keeping you at the perfect temperature!

Basically what this means is that you get a warmer insulation that weighs less & helps regulate temperature.

Utilizing 50% recycled 3DeFX+ Insulation we created a jacket that packs smaller, weighs less, and keeps you incredibly warm! Normally, the performance & durability of recycled material is lower than non-recycled materials (not as lofty, not as durable, heavier from impurities, etc.).
But that’s not the case with the Vario Jacket!

100% of our materials are sourced & created by Toray. We know where everything came from on a molecular level! That means there are no impurities in the recycled insulation fibers. Every part of it is planned & recycled purposefully.

The result is that the 50% recycled 3DeFX insulation has 0% performance & durability degradation after extensive testing (compared to normal 3DeFX.) It will last just as long. It’s just as lofty & warm!

So soft vario

Love my new vario jacket, wear it everywhere in all kinds of weather. Rain and wind resistant enough for my everyday use. Really like the breathable fabric under arms., perfect for spring in WA.

Better and cheaper then Patagonia

I bought two of these, one for me and one for my sister. I took this jogging in 54 degree weather in 30 mile wind and felt warm but not too warm. The pits are regulating the temp, the quality is amazing, the jacket is hydrophobic, and it’s an amazing value. The closes jackets that compares to this is $300+. One example is the Patagonia nano air. This the best bang for your buck and an excellent replacement for a puffy.

Best synthetic jacket I’ve owned.

I’ve been using the Patagonia nano puff(or micro can’t remember it’s been so long) but in windy environments like I live and hike in it wasn’t enough. The vario has changed all that and is much warmer. My former jacket was ok down to about 50 with appropriate layers but the vario has kept me warm at 30 and 20mph winds here in NYC where I’m currently working. I only needed a thin merino long sleeve shirt underneath. It is becoming my favorite light weight jacket even keeping up with some down jackets I own. Well done outdoor vitals and can’t wait to get my hands on the Venus hoody and nova pro.

Okay jacket, very poor customer service and company

I ordered this jacket because I liked the look and it held up fairly well. However, the jacket got caught on an branch and immediately ripped. I emailed the company and the warranty only covered manufacturer mistakes, but they did offer to repair the rip. I had to pay $12 to ship it myself to them, then they charged me $19.55 to do the “more visually appealing” repair. During this process if I chose to not repair it and pay for them to ship it back to me, they said my jacket will be “donated, given away, or used for parts with no option for recourse.” I chose the repair. After the first wash, the thin fabric patch came off and now the cheap glue is stained over my rip, making it worse than the snag before. I would not recommend this company, save yourself the hassle and buy elsewhere.
