Please allow me to extol the virtues of the CC Pocket. Its in the ballpark in mass and dimensions of the 1st GEN iPOD. The construction is solid, my oops drop test of 5' met with just a scuff b/c the sides have a durable rubber band 1/2' around it and a "O" ring around the speaker. The speaker is loud and remarkably clear = no distortion. This is done with a nifty ant. that plugs into headphone jack. SLICK! Funny thing, I am not stuck to wifi "radio" limitations anymore. I look forward to Summer, the Giants and my CC Pocket. Thanks REI for a great product.

Worked great for 1st year ?, (cannot find receipt for warranty work). Turn volume wheel, all the way to "high". Can barely hear the station. Worked great, but now, is worth nothing. Piece of junk. Would not buy this radio! CC crane, what a disappointment.

Great with included earphones!

Headphone port is really important on this compact NOAA weather radio because the speaker does not get loud and can barely be heard when it is windy outside. The included earphones are top-notch quality and have awesome bass! Easy to use. Great reception, even in downtown Charleston SC. Very compact size. Amazingly strong belt/skirt clip. However the two double AA batteries run out of juice within 24 hours of continuous use. I would like to see a solar rechargeable version hopefully in the future. The unit also gets regular radio reception quite strongly. Overall highly recommended and ultra lightweight and portable.

Good size pocket radio- bad volume adjustment

The first CCPocket radio that I purchase worked fine for 11 months. I used it once a week for 44 weeks. The volume adjustment wheel stopped working. Volume would be on high even if I turned the adjustment volume wheel to low. I sent it to C Crane since it was still under warranty. I received a new CCpocket warranty replacement and months later I had the same problem. The new replacement radio has the same issue. These radios have a very week mechanical radio volume adjuster that fails. Unless they change the design and replace the mechanical volume wheel with a digital volume button I'll never purchase again.

"Pocket" Radio it's pretty good

CC "Pocket" radio all in all good basic, fundamental performance, with relevant functions, it Will do a few tricks also. Runs on two AA Alkaline batteries which I prefer, rotate and keep fresh extras. Use the supplied ear buds for hi fidelity and FM Stereo. Decent frequency agility once you get use to the digital tuning and presets. Excellent FM sensitivity and capture. AM is pretty good for a Pocket radio. NOAA weather pretty much local with supplied external antenna. Battery life is ok, I lose my presets and time when I change batteries. Pretty ruggedly built. Don't expect room filling volume from a pocket radios small speaker, please. Alkaline batteries perform well under a range of Temperatures. No such thing as a perfect radio, but this one is pretty good for a small one.

Perfect for Listening to the Ball Game

I bought this radio to help me get better reception on the AM broadcast of the Dodger games. I had a Sony handheld radio before this, and it didn’t pick up the broadcast too well. I would get static or weird noises in different seating areas. This radio was able to output more sound to my earbuds and it did so much clearer. I was able to flip through the settings to zone in on the signal. I really enjoyed it. For my uses this is perfect. The FM reception is pretty good with just the dangly cable antennae too.

Small radio for NPR addict

There are times when you just want a radio. Sure I can use my iPhone but it is so nice to have a relatively inexpensive item you can risk on a flat water paddle on your SUP or kayak. In the early morning I can go out on the porch and listen without hauling out a boombox. The sound quality is very good using my portable speaker (portable speaker needs to have a wired option) or headphones. The batteries last a relatively long time ( for me several days). The down side is the speaker that comes in the radio is pretty bad, okay for talk, but music, nope. Buds work great.

Lighter and smaller is a plus

After buying the Midland Solar/crank radio, it was returned within a few weeks. The C Crane seems to be a better match for backpacking. There is a lock so it does not get turned on inadvertently (Midland turned on with handling). Presets are a plus. Earbuds function as an antennae. Obviously a pair of backup AA batteries will come along, but size and weight will be less than the Midland. The severe weather alert can be set for 4, 8 or 16 hours if severe weather is forecast. The package seems well thought out.

Great little radio

Great little compact radio, does what its supposed to do . Sound quality isn't great but its not expected by such a small radio ,with a small speaker. I use it while kayak bass fishing tournaments, after several 8hr tournaments the battery indicator has barely moved (great battery life), The tuner holds the preset stations like it should. The volume level is sufficient for my needs, and comes with a set of earbuds and a flexible antenna. The belt clip is a great feature, it allows me to attach directly to my kayak seat. If you are looking for a loud i, high quality sound , look elsewhere......but if you are looking for a small radio , with a long battery life , just to listen to music on your local AM/FM channel or catch a sporting event works perfect.

Small And Mightly

I wanted a small radio to listen to talk radio at night. The sound quality is amazing and esp. talk radio is extremely clear even at low volume. There's a wire antenna that comes with this if you need it; if you use the earplugs they become the antenna as well. I like the fact it's digital turning as others have said. I contacted CCrane about using lithium batteries in this and was told not to, it can damage the circuits because it's different than regular AA batteries (they can tech talk you through this reason if you call them). You can use rechargeable NiMh batteries, but it will not show full power on the display. (Read instructions or contact CCrane) Love this radio so much I bought the CCRadio 2E which REI also sells --great sale price right now. CCrane has brought me back to enjoying radio again. Great for travel too!

Did not live up to the hype

I bought this radio with high expectations based on the glowing reviews on YouTube by Todd Erbert and Radio Geek. It was supposed to have great AM reception, but I found that I couldn't even pick up am powerhouse WLS which is less than 200 miles away. I did pick up some stations that were fairly far away, but they didn't stay tuned for long and soon were unlistenable. The final straw for me occurred today. I was listening to a local talk radio station and I just couldn't get over how horrible and tinny the speaker sounded. It was better with my headphones, but I could do the same thing with my $10 Memorex radio.
