Sizing Notes
Measurements are stated in inches unless otherwise indicated. Size chart values represent body measurements, not garment measurements. Some women's pants are available in petite and tall sizes. Typically petite sizes fit women 4'11" to 5'3". Regular sizes fit women 5'4" to 5'8". Tall sizes fit women 5'9" to 5'11".
PETITE: Generally, as compared to regular sizes, petite sizes are 2.5 inches shorter in inseam, 1 inch shorter in body length, 1.25 inches shorter in sleeve length and ¾ inch shorter in total rise.
TALL: tall sizes are 3 inches longer in inseam, 2 inches longer in body length, 2.5 inches longer in sleeve length and 1.25 inches longer in total rise.
Capri or cropped pants have an intentionally shorter inseam—reference the technical specs instead of this chart.
Inseam is measured to the floor.

Versatile light down jacket, packable
I tested this jacket while camping 2x in low 40's with wind and 50 F. Pros: 1) neutral mushroom color goes well with any bottom,2) it is light and packs down, 3) somewhat relaxed fit is forgiving and comfortable to layer. I normally wear XS outer coats but had a few XS jacket that was tight around hip. This REI jacket was comfortable around my hip (I'm at 5'0" 108 lbs), 4) just enough elastic cuffs, 5) waist elastic draw string helps keep warmth in colder days, 5) sleeves not too long for someone short like me, 6) a bit too warm at 50F, comfortable in low 40's with a long sleeve T-shirt when walking at leisurely pace. I wore a light midlayer when I was just sitting around, 7) no hood/light weight makes it perfect for everyday use. Cons: 1) not neccessarily bad but it seems to run a bit big which is typical for REI aparel. Size down if you want a snuggle fit. , 2) Based on how comfortable it was at 40F at night in a low wind condition, I think it is not warm enough for very cold days in Minnesota. I imagine it would be great in the range of 25F to 40F for me. Perfect for my everyday use but not for harsh winter days, 3) It seems the previous model had a pocket with double sided zipper that was meant for packing down this jacket. There is no such feature but I was able to pack it in one of the internal pocket without a zipper (see the photo).
Cozy mid-weight layer
This is an excellent mid-weight jacket that packs and layers well! I wore it camping and it folded down great in my pack and recovered it's loft quickly when I put it on. We had some light drizzle, and it was comfy under my raincoat. Pros: Cut is excellent - other jackets in this category tend to have more structure/cut in at the bottom, resulting in a coat that fits great everywhere, but won't zip over my hips. While i took this coat a size up from my normal size, the fit at the bottom is more forgiving then other jackets like this. I also like the collar height (high enough to snuggle into without being floppy), and the elastic at the wrist is secure, but minimal. I also noticed that the pocket zippers are wide enough that they don't get stuck on the fabric - something that has driven me crazy on other down coats. Cons: I love the color, but in direct light, you can see the darker fill color through the coat, which makes it look sort of dirty. Would not be an issue in a darker color. I also noticed that the pocket positioning is a little odd/close to the hem. I had my phone in my pocket and could see the pocket material hanging out below the bottom of the jacket, which looked kind of sloppy. The issue was much less obvious when the jacket was zipped as opposed to worn open. Overall, I would definitely recommend! I haven't had it out in truly cold temps yet (just low 40's so far), but it was nice and warm around the campfire and my daughter even snuggled into it as an extra blanket on our coldest night in the tent.
Solid budget friendly layer!
It's starting to feel like fall in NY state and it was the perfect time to test out this jacket. First impressions were very positive, it's well stuffed, soft, and light. Although, tight off the bat, I would've loved if this came with its own bag or had a packable pocket to carry it in as it can really compress down quite a lot but definitely wants to puff back out if not confined. It's the little details that really got me for this. There are two sizeable inside pockets (no zipper though), the sleeves are a little tight at the end and really help keep the jacket in place, AND there's a lil cinch cord at the bottom so you can really keep all of that heat in! For me, down jackets with hoods always seem to slip back so I really like that this one has a pretty high collar meaning I can pair it with a beanie and still be pretty well covered. Normally I prefer M jackets so that I can layer, but I probably would've been fine with a S and some base layers. At least now I can wear some of my bulkier sweaters under this though.
Super lightweight but warm
I was super impressed with how lightweight this particular product was. At first, I was nervous that it would compromise warmth for weight, but it's held up well in the cooler fall weather. I haven't warn it in zero or below weather yet, but it's kept me plenty warm. As a general rule I do still layer underneath it--I recommend a light sweatshirt or sweater still. Travelability is a big concern for me--this folds down so nicely and can pack nicely. Have also found it quite breathable. I haven't had shedding issues with the down, either. Small fits me quite nicely (I'm typically an XS close fit)--if you like your jackets a little oversize and plan on heavily layering underneath, I'd consider sizing up.
Lightweight, easily packable, don’t get ecru!
I like REI-Coop brand lightweight down jacket for what it is. (Have an old one I was replacing.) It’s a nice layering piece, and squishes down really well for packing. This one seems a bit thinner than my older one (not ideal, but ok). When choosing a color, really do believe reviews saying don’t get a light one (I didn’t because I really wanted a white one). The transparency of the ecru was awful—the dark feathers showing through just made it look dirty and cheap. I returned it, but will reorder in a darker color. I am ~130lbs, a bit “hippy”, and normally wear a small or med. The medium gave enough room for a bulkier sweater underneath, without looking way boxy.
Different from the previous version
Bought this jacket about 6 years ago and have worn it a ton and loved it. Thought it might be time for a new one; unfortunately, some changes make it a no go for me. The new coat is less fitted and more baggy around the waist (same size). The elastic around the sleeves is not as tight, making it feel floppy. The drawstring at the hem is only on one side, not two, which makes it more difficult to cinch up evenly and leaves a long cord to try and tuck in somewhere under the hem. (Cinch cord is less thinner and feels flimsier.) Darn--I wanted to love this jacket as much as the first!
Honestly LOVE the champagne color. Very happy!!
A very well made, versatile jacket. Awesome large gussets, meaning better down insulation. A 650 down jacket - REI brand! Honestly LOVE the champagne color. Going to look super professional if I need to wear to work, or super cute in Telluride where we visit for Christmas. A little loose which is PERFECT for winter if I'm wearing a bulky sweater. The hoodless option does make this less of a tech gear piece in my opinion, but the collar does go decently high, and will be super warm. LOVE the inside pockets. Only some of my winter jackets have had this in the past, and one of my fave fave features. Great to stick a beer in, make sure your wallet is safe, or extra gloves etc storage. Nice big pocket. Fit is good, but not great. I do like to see something in the stitching or waist in general to make it a little more flattering. Tightening or pulling in at the waist, as down jackets do have a tendency to add a bit of bulk. But otherwise I am super happy with this product. Love that it's a price accessible REI piece. Well made, warm, cute, and a wonderful plus sized winter option. Very happy customer!!
Nice Quality Layering Piece
The mushroom taupe color is not one I would normally gravitate toward but I really love the color of this jacket, it’s nice to have a true neutral piece that can go with all my other gear! The down in this jacket feels amazing, light but still insulating. I’m really pleased with the overall construction and design - pockets are spacious, cozy high collar, elastic around wrists that’s not too restrictive, and adjustable elastic around waist. This is a great piece for fall and to layer under and over come winter time. Price point is also great for something of this quality. Though I overall really like this jacket I do think the fit could be more flattering. It is very boxy and doesn’t really seem to be a “women’s” cut. Would definitely prefer something that was more fitted at the waist while still maintaining room for wider hips.
This jacket is my new go-to down jacket.
The REI Women's 650 Down Jacket was a welcome addition to my trip to Colorado. The two nights we camped, I wore it overnight to enjoy comfortable sleeping. The jacket kept me warm during our hikes into the mountains without adding extra weight. The front and pocket zippers worked smoothly. I was able to layer several thin layers underneath the jacket and found that I had plenty of freedom to move my arms. The light elastic around the wrists helped to keep the cold air out. I plan on taking this jacket with me whenever I travel because it is lightweight and doesn't take much room. I like that there are two inside pockets as well. The bottom of the jacket can be cinched to keep out drafts. The garment is well constructed with no raw seams inside. The collar is comfortable and not too tight.
Awesome All Around Cool Weather Jacket.
Excellent jacket, especially the color, for deer season! I have wide shoulders, a 34" waist, and a 47" hip. I bought it in XL so I could layer a fleece or sweatshirt under, and not be too terribly tight across my shoulders (as I can't wear most jackets made for women, due to them all having super narrow shoulders). This kept me nice and warm in upper 20F weather. Even out in the woods and brambles, I didn't get any tears or rips. Even worked excellent to help pad my shoulder a bit during some target practice! They are on sale as of the time of this review, so I will be buying another to have in a less attention grabbing color.
