Almost an upgrade

Summary For those looking to avoid the details, overall I would recommend this pack but keep in mind the pole carry changes and some considerations to make based on your own use and needs. They are functional but not without some little niggles. Fit As someone who is between sizes, I find the medium size to fit better and more consistent across layers while allowing for enough adjustable range to allow for the thickest layers I would wear and more importantly, the minimum layers without allowing bounce or insecure fit. This could be something to consider in an update to the sizing chart to note for individuals between sizes to likely size down. Additional sizing guides could be given like on the packs but overall the lower rib should be sufficient as is used today. Pole Carry I was hopeful for the flexibility of this system to be able to relocate pole attachment points while allowing for security. I found this system to not function as intended. The previous pole attachment system (still seen on the fastback series) to be much simpler to use and offer superior security. The issues with the new system are two fold. First, the ability to manipulate the system while moving and without looking is nonexistent. I was able to manage while moving but this new system requires having to look down which poses a concern if traveling over technical terrain. This new system requires additional steps compared to the previous system. This includes having to orientate the cords and cinching them down. The other system could be done by feel and did not require any cinching. The second is the security and movement of the system. With poles installed, the new cords allow the poles to shift left and right and somewhat up and down. While I did find the poles settled into a position eventually, I found myself looking down to see if they were at risk of falling out. Pocket Configuration The pocked configuration on this pack is executed perfectly with enough organization while not being overdone. I appreciated every configuration and the additional vertical zip pocket on front provided flexibility for nutrition when trying to keep things separate (caffeine vs none, or other organization considerations). The only note to make is for the burrito pocket. While I love the versatility of this pocket to hold a bottle or other items, carrying a bottle in this pocket requires smashing the bottle down to fully zip. If this is not done and you try to have the zipper stop at the mouth piece, the zipper will work it’s way open eventually. As someone who likes to carry a balance of electrolyte and not, I prefer to be able to access both bottles at once. To remedy this, a locking zipper could be used and provide the intention while avoiding this problem without too much trouble.

Love the backpack, with some exceptions...

It's really a great pack, it's my second UD backpack and I like the ability to have many zippered pockets. My only change would be the upper shoulder areas, while I know some like the emergency GPS pockets, I don't think they are always a necessity for the backpack. Otherwise, love the back zippered pockets too.

Good Long Distance Pack, but needs to be more bladder friendly.

I needed a new long distance running pack and went with the adventure vest 6.0. I purchased the bladder as well, since this pack only has room for one chest flask. I love the pack and am going to continue to utilize it is my summer race schedule, I only wish that the pack included the bladder, and was made more for bladder use as there is no clip on the front of the pack for the hose and the hose just bounces around. For a long distance pack it seems this would be included...
