Trigger came pretty light but it was easily adjustable and I got it dialed in easily. There was the smallest spots of rust on the top of the barrel but airgundepot credited me. It didnt seem to be an issue with the gun as manufactured and I wire brushed and oiled them. Maybe storage or shipping issues. Side cocking action is cool and its nice that the barrel is fixed. All around quality. Not knock your socks off or anything but there are no materials or manufacturing or performance issues. Has proven reliable and predictable and substantial.
Pros
Solid quality and good iron sights come standard. Power is good and I like the fixed barrel that does not break. Consistency and accuracy are there.
Cons
This gun is a bit heavy. It is also a bit loud compared to a PCP with similar power.
Just pony up the money and go with Diana.... it is the best value and built to last.... side cockers rule!!
Pros
Everything...... I added detachable sling swivels.....
Cons
You would have to be a idiot to find something to complain about..... It is built like a tank and is smooth as silk.... pin point accuracy.
Pros
power and accuracy
I bought a refurbished .22 cal Model 48 from Air Gun Depot 30 years ago and it is still going strong. I've knocked down prairie dogs at 60 yards, squirrels and rats. I sent the rifle back to AGD many years ago for service and they did a great job. It's been a joy to own it, and fun to break out with friends are over!
Pros
Durable, accurate and has enough thump to take small game nicely. (ballistics very similar to .22 short)
Cons
It is certainly heavy and has a stout cocking mechanism. I have had to straighten the guide rod on the cocking mechanism a time or two when the release lever wasn't depressed during cock lever return.
Out of 22 springers my favorite and most accurate can shoot the date on a penny five times in a row at 25 yards
Pros
Not hold sensitive at all sandbag bipod tripod shotgun grip open hand it doesn't matter
Cons
Cocking lever not as tough as the rest of the gun.
Anyone wanting to deny any amount of power this firearm has then take a look at what a through the ear shot can do to a 100# plus hog. No squeals and sealed the deal immediately. Nothing but top precision in a firearm. Head shot made from moving vehicle did the job for feral hog reduction in Englewood Florida. Thanks to Mr. Kenny Anderson for introducing us to a top quality made gun. Ordering more!
Pros
BAD TO THE BONE AND THROUGH IT ALSO!
Cons
Side Lever Bent because of mishandling. Should be made little better.
Pros
i have owned this find rifle for 40 plus years. its still dead on.
Cons
it is heavy, but i am not trekking this for miles. wish it was quieter for shoot rats.
It arrived 2 days ago. I ran a patch through the bore, sighted with a cheap POS scope I had laying around. I sighted it the next morning. I have shot it 4 times since then. ALL ONE SHOT TO THE HEAD AT 11 yards! I had unfortunately sold my model 48 a decade or so ago when things were tight. I have since bought 3 others, they varied from bad to REALLY BAD. I will never make the mistake of selling it ever!
Pros
Accurate, Powerful, well made and did I mention ACCURATE!
Cons
I'm old it's a bit heavy, BUT DID I MENTION ITS ACCURATE!
I am not an expert by any means on air rifles. What I can say is I’ve had the model 48 for about 15 yrs +- it shoots as hard and straight today as it did when I got it. I’m now 70 so it’s harder to hold and load now vs when I got it. But that’s me and not a defect in the gun. Can’t tell you how many groundhogs I’ve dispatched at 30-50 yard range, aimed high and took couple out 60-70 yds. At 30 yds this gun will shoot through a 3/4” pressure treated board. It is a lot of $ but if you want a top notch air rifle and not interested in shooting fast and have the ability to hold it and pull the lever this rifle is the ticket.
Pros
Top notch air rifle
Cons
It is heavy and does take some strength to pull the lever back but if you change any of that then it wouldn’t be the excellent rife that it is.
Question?
Login to ask someone who bought this product. What is the cocking effort poundage?
asked Bobby from USACould this particular rifle be shot in cold weather?
asked David from USAwhy are no trigger replacements avable , mine broke ?
asked BillNot a question, just a 35 year testimonial. I bought a RWS, 48", single shot break open, spring .177 some 35-40 years ago. I used it a lot for the first couple years and now I pull it out of the closet every 5 years or so. Still fires strong and accurate. At 100 yards it is as accurate as several of my real firearms (.223, 30 carbine, 30-06) dead nuts bullseye. Obviously the spotting scope is useless for the .177 but it is a fun reminder that plinking doesn't require shoulder bruising. I had call the company a few years back as I was concerned about the life of the spring and seals and they offered a tune up (replacement of worn parts) at a small fee. As they stated, if I take care of it may not require any attention for several more years. I keep if clean, fire a few shots every few years and follow up with shooting two cleaning plugs before putting it back in its case and buried back in the closet. The value is little compared to my real firearms but the quality is as good or better. It's still as perfect today as the day I purchased it. When my days are done I hope the next generations take the same pride.
asked Rick R.Scope rail screw size.phillip screw.
asked JimThe rail screws don't come out. They're mushroomed on the inside.
Michael from USAThe best scope for this springer that will hold Zero!
asked Sherwood GoffDoes anyone know if the entire front sight assembly can be removed and a sound suppressor installed on the Diana 48?
asked Maurice from USAOn the Diana model 48, can the whole front sight assembly be removed and a sound suppressor be installed installed in its place?
asked Maurice from USAHow many strokes are necessary to pump this gun? What is the pounds of pressure needed? Does that pump get in the way holding the stock?
asked johnONE stroke. It's a springer. No psi fill pressure, the spring pushes the piston creating the air pressure behind the pellet.
Greg from USAIt is my understanding that the 48 is identical to the 52 in all aspects except the 52 includes checkering on the stock. Why the weight difference? Why is the 48 a bit quieter (3 vs. 4) on your specs? Any other differences?
asked Aaron Glauser
Had a first gen 48 as a kid, sold it as a young adult, and regretted it ever since. Finally replaced it, and happy to say it's still just as amazing as I remember. If anything, the quality has improved. The T06 trigger is definitely superior to the original. The only differences Im aware of are the trigger, the rear sight used to have 4 different notches on a tiny square that could be rotated. Also the cocking lever didn't have the rib along the top. The price has come down considerably recently, and this 48 is a bargain. It's not much more money than what I paid in 1991!
Pros
Superb build quality, trigger, and accuracy
Cons
On the heavy side
