Nice multipurpose towel
I wanted to invest in a lightweight multi-use quick-drying towel, that could also double as a light wrap or blanket when needed. This fit the bill, as the color is classic, compared to beach towel prints. The large is big enough to wrap around me modestly. However, the packaging says 3.1 ounces, so I was disappointed to find it actually weighs in at 6.5 ounces (which it does state on the website). REI needs to make sure packaging and website specs are the same.
REI Co-op Multi Towel Lite
I purchased this to save space on trip where I had limited space. This towel had a very small footprint in the space it occupied. When the towel was opened the towel was much larger than I anticipated. That was not an issue for me but a positive. The towel dried quickly and performed as I had hoped it would. If you have limited space but require a full size towel then you may want to give this a try. I did not try this on a sandy beach so cannot speak on how it will perform. I expect it will not hold onto the sand as terry cloth towels currently do. That I will need to test to see how the towel performs on a beach environment.
It kept me dry
I used this towel on a trip to the Wind River Range during a week where it rained every day and most nights. The ground was saturated with water, even at the base of large trees, and there was no breeze. Under these conditions there was no way to avoid substantial condensation inside my single-walled, Dyneema tent. The towel allowed me to manage the condensation by wiping the inside walls and roof and wringing out the towel on the ground inside the tent vestibule. I was amazed that even a damp towel (obtained by wringing) absorbed enough of the moisture on the tent fabric that it didn't feel wet to the touch. It kept me dry!
Towel is great but the bag is flimsy
Towel works great- it soaks a lot of water, dries up quickly and folds compact. However the carrying bag has already started to come apart within like a month to buying it and using it probably twice. So I’d give it two stars
So great I bought a second!
Bought this to replace a cheapo travel towel I bought for the dog. The cheapo towel collected EVERYTHING it touched, leaves, sticks, grass, dirt, and smelled horrendous after one use. This dries way faster, shakes clean, and no smell. I washed it with my more expensive travel towel and hung them to dry side by side and this one dried oodles faster. Came back to buy a bigger one for myself to replace my expensive towel. This towel in the background in photo, more expensive one in the foreground.
Very light and absorbent
This towel is really nice for taking camping or anywhere that you need a compact, light towel. It can easily dry off your entire body. I found that the fabric isn't amenable to wiping yourself off - it sort of sticks against your skin due to the ribbed texture - but it works just fine if you blot. It feels soft and comfortable to the touch. I have long hair and I was able to dry off my body and then wrap my hair in it, and it still had plenty of absorbency left. I really like the carrying pouch that it comes with, and it has a loop on one corner that clips open and closed so you could hang it from a rope or branch, which makes it easier to find someplace to hang it up. Note that the instructions say that you need to wash it once first to get maximum effectiveness.
Great towel, cheap case
Lightweight and absorbent. Big. One star off because the quality of the bag/case is sub-par. The hang loop ripped out within the first few days of use, and other seams starting opening as well.
Multi towel is multi purpose
Purchased the grey color. And getting the XL size means it's great for use in RV, as a beach/pool towel, lap blanket for stadium games, travel blanket or when folded a pillow for airplane, drying off dogs, picnic blanket, table cloth, seat/couch cover in hotel room because EWW upholstery is stained, uses are endless! But my favorite feature is that it is NOT like a lot of the microfiber towels out there that feel rough and scratchy and are magnets for lint, pet hair, etc. This multi towel feels soft, and only feels better after washing.
Dries quickly and packs down small
I got the large size for a five-week trip in Europe, out of REI's 40 L Ruckpack. The towel is not perfect, but it checks all the main boxes for my needs. I'm currently using it as my gym towel. I expect to be staying places where towels are provided to me most of the time, but not always. And I'll be taking day trips to the beach, etc. where I might not want to or be able to take someone else's towel. This towel doesn't feel as nice on my skin as a terry cloth towel, but that's OK, as I'm only planning on using it for several minutes a week. It dries me off and then dries pretty quickly afterwards. The rest of the time, it is light and compact, which is what I need for gear that's important but used only occasionally on a trip where I'm packing light.
A slight learning curve to really appreciate this
This towel took a little getting used to. My initial mistake was treating it like a substitute cotton towel. It's made differently and behaves differently. It's very thin; so thin that you can see light through it. And the texture means it will bunch up if you try to rub the towel across the ridges. Wiping myself slowly and with the grain, it dries me off really well. And the thinness comes into play when you hang it to dry. Which is to say, being thin (and ribbed) means it dries really quickly.
