Great Jacket.
I bought this a few weeks ago. So far it's amazing. Looks and fits perfect, I was a little concerned because some reviews said it fit big. I am 5'9 and 185lbs. Fit is perfect, I would say it is a regular fit jacket (as it is advertised). It is super warm and light weight. I was replacing an old TNF jacket because it seems their jackets have gotten more streetwear and i need something for the mountain. 1st fall weekend hike was great kept me warm on the way up and was able to stow it with minimal space in the pack on the way down. Fits great under my shell too so I can't wait to use it this winter.
Fantastic in every way
The Access Down has become my go to jacket for every situation. I've worn this in all types of weather, and in temperatures ranging from 20-60 degrees Fahrenheit. This thing is light, comfortable and great looking. It's so comfortable that I've actually slept in it when my sleeping bag didn't keep me warm enough while backpacking in cold weather. 10 out of 10. I'm considering buying another one so I have a backup when this one wears out one day. I was on the fence between a large and a medium. I went with the large. The medium would probably be a slightly better fit, but the large is great too. I'm 5'9" and 180lbs. with a fairly athletic build but I do drink more beers than I should.
It's exactly what I was looking for
Strong Fill Power, chest pocket, great length, and some of the best denier ratings out there for a jacket like this. 5'9 165lbs and Medium fits really well - no problem getting baselayers underneath and at the same time the cut is more fitting / isn't boxy at all. sleeves are lengthy (great for reaching) but elastic layer inside the cuff is super comfy and does a great job from letting the sleeves creep over the hands.adjustable hood is great for street wear and will definitely fit my snowboard helmet if necessary. Would be stoked on a mesh catch-all pocket, but hey, 5 stars all day.
Nice Down
I’ve only had it for a fire weeks so I didn’t get to test it in super cold temperatures yet. But I can say that this down will keep me warm all winter long. However, the fit is kind of roomier than you would expect from a down. In a way, this is an issue because cool air might be more prone to find its way inside. But on the other, since its not THAT thick of a down, this might help layering underneath like my first down hoody that will be able to wear as an extra on the coldest days. I would still go true to size since dimensions are good. (I’m 6’1 and pretty slim and bought size M)
Love everything
There is not a feature I don't love! The chest pocket is a great location and larger than I expected. The pockets are an upgrade with the soft liner so my not-gloved hands aren't shocked by the cold! The elastic ends of the sleeves will certainly help keep out snow and cold windy drifts. The hood is fantastic- it doesn't fall in my face or off my head. I bought online so the color was a little darker than expected and I love that too! It's got a little teal/green tint to the blue and it really stands out. The fit is great, it covers my waistline and still easily zips up at my hips.
Average materials and craftsmanship for price
For a 700 fill goose down the baffling dimensions make the shoulder loft unable to adequately keep in heat at even 45 degrees F. The zipper is loud and not smooth feeing compared to similar products. The fit is comparatively large in the waist for a Medium making the annoying and breakable bungee drawstring necessary to keep heat in. You could leave the upper waist dimension the same but taper it in at the bottom… Initial fabric water repellency is adequate. This is all compared to same caliber brands like Patagonia and Marmot. This puffy is fine for the price, just not good.
Great jacket
This is my primary insulation layer in the Tetons. I’ve used it in temps down to -5 and never got cold. Even while in Avy class where I had to stand around all day without much activity, this jacket kept me warm. 6’, 175lbs, Large fits great.

Best jacket I’ve ever had.
My friends have gone out and bought their own wannabe jackets like this after I rocked it on a summer adventure across the Rockies. Great durability, great look and feel, great choice. One jacket to rule them all.

Great fit, not so great construction
I've owned this jacket for a few years and the first thing I noticed was how easy the down pokes through the shell of the jacket. I get that its a down jacket and that is bound to happen, but after owning numerous down jackets from other companies I've never noticed the loss nearly as much as this jacket. It feels as if the baffles around the cuffs are nearly empty at this point! Besides the fact of losing a lot of fill, the jacket fits great and is comfortable. I'm not sure if I will purchase another BD down due to the loss though...
Perfect for a Peruvian Pilgrimage!
I needed a warm mid-layer coat for our trip to Peru - the Access Down Hoody was it. I was looking for the warmth of a sleeping bag but needed it to be packable and fit under my waterproof Shell jacket. This jacket did it all. It was super warm when I needed it, especially at night while sleeping in a mountain hut. It has an amazing front top pocket that is easily accessible with another layer on top. I love that the hood keeps my neck and head warm, and keeps the wind away. This is one great down puffer, great work Black Diamond.
