Grip like crazy
Ducati Man

While I haven't tested these in the Himalayas, I have worn them for 2 seasons in Wisconsin with great results. They grip really well, and install/remove fairly easily. If I transition from ice or off-road to sidewalk, I take them off and carry in the dog's plastic bag (and hope she doesn't do anything that requires me to pick something up with the bag). I've used on frozen lakes (surprisingly loud crunching on ice), frozen marsh with lots of grass and deep snow. The only wear I've noticed is on the bottom of the spikes from me walking on concrete, otherwise they look brand new. Not for casual walking on sidewalks. Or hardwood floors.

Some problems
ShaneD
The first issue I had was a chain breaking at the point of connection to the front plate, REI replaced them and said they'd seen the problem before. This was after maybe 30 miles on them, mostly hard icy trails with a little intermittent rock. The second problem I'm having is the rear plate slipping off the heel of my mountaineering approach boots ( Salewa Rapace's ) frequently. They say XL for my size twelve's, but that's right on the edge of L/XL so perhaps I really needed an L instead. They seem to hold on my 'winter' boots OK, probably because they have a wider heel and a snowshoe strap welt. Anyway, Guess I have some doubts about durability and depending on your boot, the sizing and whether the heel plates will constantly slip. So far would go with kahtoolas again next time - not an improvement for me.

Wasn't Sure What To Expect

I have tried various traction devices, from the spring coil designs to other systems. I tend to break just about everything I wear and within a day of use I am looking at something that worked for a short period of time. Well, these seem to be up to the task! Wore them several days on the beach ice, icebergs of Lake Michigan. Very slippery, solid blue ice conditions and not only did these works extremely well, they held up! I did not experience any foot or ankle fatique and honestly it didn't feel like I had them on except for the fact I wasn't slipping all over the place. These for me seem to be the best out there for ice exploring. Recommend

Ice on the trails no problem!

After owning most feet traction including Kahtoolas. These Hillsound crampons are top notch. With the bigger spikes they worked good on solid ice and have good traction on packed snow. Used these twice so far for Franconia Ridge and Mt Liberty. My friends picked up some already and they are extremely happy.

Good grip, hard to put on.

Just used these in the Catskills in snow and also a day on thick ice. Friends were wearing Kahtoolas and slipping, and I was not. They are, however, tougher to stretch over the boots than Kahtoolas.

you wont regret the money you spend on this one

This is after 2 months of use and after summit-ing multiple peaks. Have used it in the White Mountains, NH when the trail is packed and doesnt require snowshoes. Also, one time (in February, during one of the warm spells) while climbing Mt.Jackson a good 15 feet of the trail was at an 50 degree angle and was just covered with sheer ice - this worked like a charm. Just remember - this product can rust (hint, WD40 them once you get home) and also can be sharpened if needed. Only drawback - if you can call it that - is that the rubber is quite tough and it can be a bit of a struggle putting it on when your hands are close to freezing.

Get Ya Cramp On

Total success, if you have any plans to be in the wilderness, hilly areas, or flat ground with the potential of snow or ice you will benefit from these trail crampons. My wife and I both got a pair knowing we'd be hiking in Yosemite monthly through the winter and they are bar far worth their weight in gold. After the first big snow of the season we flew up Yosemite's "Mist Trail" rock stair case (which is hundreds of feet tall and was covered in inches of ice) with ultimate confidence. Light enough to be a staple in your winter day pack, they are an absolute MUST HAVE for winter hiking and back country excursions.

Sure beats a broken hip!

These crampons are the best investment I've made this winter. I work at a ski resort. Every morning I have to walk uphill several hundred yards through an ice and snow covered parking lot. In the evenings, I make the return trip downhill to get to my Jeep. I have never slipped even once with these crampons on my boots. They are easy to put on and take off, and the Velco strap across the front keeps them securely on my boots. They are beefy and sturdy. I love the quality. The price of these crampons compares extremely favorably to the pain, medical bills and lost work I probably would have suffered from falling on the icy parking lot without them.

Highly Recomended!

If you are currently using, needing to replace, or considering purchasing a pair of Kahtoolah Microspikes, really think about these instead. They are better in my opinion. They're virtually the same product except with longer, more aggressive spikes, spikes underfoot oriented on plate/rings instead of just chains, and a velcro strap to keep them in place. You would use them in all the same conditions that are microspike applicable, and you'll have that much better traction. I wear a size 12 and have these on big insulated winter boots in XL. If I was putting them on size 12 regular 3-season hiking boots, I'd go with L.

Does it's job and durable

I recently spent 6 months as a glacier guide in Juneau, Alaska. I used these daily as traction aids and had no issue whatsoever. Whereas other Co workers of mine chose a similar brand they shoes lots of wear after only a couple months, with cracking rubber and loosening of the overall crampon. These ones here did not stretch out or show any cracks and the Velcro strap provides an extremely secure fit over anything from hiking shoes to xtratuff boots. They also act to secure them to each other for easy carrying. Overall would recommend. Big spikes for lots of traction. I can climb and reasonable incline with these on something as light duty as deck boots.

We went hiking in NH last month (April). No snow on the bottom of the trail and staying in a low area, we figured little to no snow problem for this hike. I had shoe traction for 3 people but left them in the car. Luckily, while packing I put my never used new crampons in my backpack. Half way up we had 4" of trail snow but before we got to our destination 13". I thought getting up was bad but down will be worse. One friend has bad knees and down could be a problem when I remembered the crampons in my bag. He used them and said they were great. So as a retirement present I bought him a pair. Maybe next time I can use my crampons.
