I had high hopes for the Ranger DSLR Sling. Unfortunately, there are at least three issues I have with it, one (possibly two) of which is a deal breaker. One issue is the sliding shoulder pad. The shoulder pad doesn't stay in place; it's built to slide along the should strap. Unfortunately, the opening on the pad is too tight to allow it to slide easily. In real world use, the pad would never be in the right spot when I carried the bag, leaving me to readjust it. This wouldn't have been an issue if it slid along the strap easily but as the opening is too tight, it would annoyingly snag on the strap buckle, which meant I had to fight with it, usually having to take the bag off again, to get it into the right spot. Another issue is the difficulty in zipping the main compartment with one hand. 90% of the range is zippable with one hand. However, the last two inches on either side are not. Momentum stops due to, I don't know, less stiffness? Maybe if I had used the bag over and over again, it would somehow "mold" to allow a continued zip, but I wasn't going to wait around to find out. The biggest issue for me is the way the bag sits on ones back, which is to say it doesn't; not securely anyway. The shoulder straps sit at the middle sides of the bag, rather than the top sides/corners. This has the effect of pulling the back down from the top. Its bottom rests on one's back, no problem, but the top part pulls away from one's back. And if you're carrying any sort of weight, that pull away is just accentuated that much more. No amount of tightening of the should strap will bring the bag flush to one's back. It just isn't built that way, which is not only annoying, it's also bad for one's back. I guess I could also talk about the flush handle. While I appreciate its streamlined, disappearing nature, it's definitely not "grab-and-go" quick. I'd rather sacrifice some aesthetic for functionality. Not a big deal, just annoying. Based on reviews, this clearly seems like a well-liked sling. For most, it might be just the one. I favor speed, functionality, and convenience in a bag - characteristics that help get a bag out of my way instead of in it. This sling gets too much in my way, which annoys me. And I can't stand being annoyed by a camera bag.
Was looking for something smaller and easier to carry around but also holds all my items and this was the bag. I am loving it and it has made me want to take more pictures too
Bag meets all of my needs in a sleek appearing exterior. Couldn’t have chosen a better bag for my Sony a6400
My hex sling is amazing I use it a lot gor on the go. It my go too camera bad. It big enough for the right amount of lens.
These sling bags have suoer soft interior lining, heavy duty zippers and a great design. Highly recommended for the photographer in the field.
