Bought these for my late season (October) hike up Gray's Peak, the highest point along the Continental Divide in NA. There was snow pack and ice from the daily thaw/freeze cycle for about 75% of the climb. These worked wonders, tremendous stability and lots of compliments for thinking to bring them. Many others on the trail were sliding and falling. As soon as you take a step, you can feel them bite right in. L was a perfect fit on my size 13 TNF Hedgehogs. I could feel them get a little slick in slush, but not bad--just not as planted as on snow or ice. I didn't feel as stable on dry rock patches, as if they weren't centered perfectly on my foot. But that's really not what they are for.

Poor quality and customer service

Kahtoola used to be the industry standard for traction aides and light winter hiking. Unfortunately, the rubber eyelets, that hold the chain and spikes broke after minimal use. Since this was the second pair that had this problem which I had not them that much I inquired if the company could repair or replace my broken Micro-Spike and was told that after 2 years they offer no company support and were unwilling to repair, replace, or give me a discount on a new pair. It seems to me that they are aware of the rubber problems or they would not limit their warranty for only 2 years. Since there are better winter snow and ice traction aides on the market now, that cost half the price of the Kahtoola's, I will never purchase a product from this company again and as a hike leader who leads many winter hikes, I can no longer recommend this product.

I was shocked how well they gripped. Game changer!

I bought these to potentially use on hikes in the Flatirons of Boulder, CO. I had a cheap pair from Costco years ago and those were terrible, always falling off, so I was skeptical. These were amazing! I carried them with me up to the point where the packed snow/ice began and quickly pulled them on my boots. I easily hiked to the top with rock solid footing in the snow packed trail. After hiking down in the snow, arriving at dry trail, I popped them off and finished my hike. So far, two hikes and they've been great.

Great product

This is life saving gear! I used them for 6 hours hiking in snow and ice on Whiteoak Caynon & Cedar Run yesterday. Didn’t get any single slipping neither downhill or uphill. They gave me great support. Super easy to put on and take off.

Designed for Trail Snow & Ice, Not City Use

I purchased these five weeks ago for backpacking on Colorado Trail in Winter/Spring conditions. The fit, form, and function are outstanding. They are easy to put on, the Large size fit my size 9.5 boots perfectly and they stay in place. They are lightweight and come in a handy small stowage pouch. Unfortunately I used them for shoveling snow on concrete, and after three uses the outside rear links broke. Inspecting the remaining rear links (see attached photo), I noted that the concrete wore down the straight connector link and caused them to break off. If you wear these on concrete (or hard rock), you probably need to install hardened steel links, if such a thing exists. I will continue to use these for back country and hiking; however, would not recommend them for in city use over concrete (or possibly over hard rocks for extended use that might cause wear). These have a two year warranty from Kahoola so I have submitted a claim to them. REI offers their one year warranty, so I am not that concerned about replacement or repair with both of these options.

Hikes Like a Dream

I wore these yesterday hiking the Lion's Head trail up Mount Washington. These performed magnificently. The majority of the hike was snow-covered; and whether hiking over dry rocks, wet rocks, packed snow, crusted frozen snow, mud, or ice-covered rocks- I cruised the whole way and never felt unstable. These paired with trekking poles were perfect. I wear a women's 8.5 trail shoe, and the smalls fit perfectly.

Durrable, don’t buy imitations

Ok it’s very important to note that the earlier models of Micro spikes were not re enforced around the link points to the rubber this would result in the metal link tearing out of the rubber and the product would become junk. These new ones are re enforced with plastic bushings. This spreads the pulling tension eventually on the rubber and keeps them in tact. Be aware that there are Many copy cats out there selling for half the price. They will break and break. Buy these once and deal with the high price. They are the original and they have made upgrades to make sure they are the best. Also the chain is much thicker and better designed. You cannot go wrong with these.

Excellent traction but needs rigorous maintenance?

I have only used these spikes on one occasion, but they did a great job of keeping me safe and secure on an iced-over hiking trail. Despite rock scrambling and a couple of water crossings, there wasn't a point in time where I felt that they were hindering my balance. They were also very easy to put on, take off, and clean. However, after rinsing and letting them air dry, I noticed tiny amounts of rust around the holes where the chain links attach to the spike plates. The instructions don't specify more than soap, water, and air-drying as cleaning requirements, but I'm inclined to give them a towel-dry and light oiling if this continues to be an issue.

Helped Me Get To The Top

These worked wonderfully on my Mount St. Helens summit. Once we hit the snowfield and ice these MICROspikes kept me from slipping. They helped creating foot holds in the snow and kept me moving up. . Easy to put on and take off and fit perfectly. I wear a size 10.5 hiking shoe and the large size fit snug and tight and never moved. Everything looks well built and good quality. Probably won't use them until winter hikes, but they were great on this summit adventure.

AWD for your feet

I have owned a pair of these for at least 6 years (mine are the previous silicone design even) and my wife's are around 5 years old. We use these many times per year and they've never failed us. We are not gentle on these things; we don't take them off until we're completely off snow, so they've gone many miles across bare trails, scree, talus, etc. They've got a bit of wear on the spikes now, but they keep going strong. Highly recommended.
