Why We Like The InReach Mini
We bring Garmin's InReach Mini along when "getting away from it all" includes going beyond cellphone reception. While we appreciate the lack of work emails, phone calls, and social media notifications when we're appreciating the great outdoors, there are some situations we like being prepared for. The ability to send an SOS to GEOS—Garmin-powered International Emergency Response Coordination Center—brings peace to our minds whenever we're biking, climbing, skiing, paddling, and backpacking off the beaten path. Our loved ones especially like the ability to send us messages on extended hut trips and mountaineering missions.

Great Messagner
This was great for what it is... However, my only regret was not waiting a few months before the new unit came out. Only to be able to use the more up-to-date app. Earthmate is great, but the Explore/Messanger apps are better for pairing with mobile devices.

Bought the old model and wish I didn't
So I'm cheap and bought the old Mini rather than the Mini2. I mostly day hike but do hike some overnights and all of my hikes are in remote areas where there is no cell service. I use it to communicate with my family during the hikes. I was a little surprised at how quickly the battery drains. I believe it is because the trails are under pretty thick canopy so the device struggles to maintain a clear signal... While I do carry a battery bank for emergency charging, I would really rather not have to use it to charge this device. So far I have not had to use the battery bank but the battery in the Mini does drain pretty quickly. I wish I would have spent the extra $$ and bought the newer model that has a significantly longer battery life. I am only giving this 3 stars because of the battery life and the terrible app. I think the old app is well known to be terrible... And I agree.

it doesn't work. at all
The support people have been trying to help me for a few weeks now, but nothing. they say it needs some update, but can't figure out how to get it connected to the computer for the update. I'm paying for the subscription, but it's useless. I'm definitely frustrated.

Great addition to your hunting kit
Fantastic way to make your location available to others when you are off grid. Allows you to text with a subscription through garmin, using satellites when cell is not an option. Also allows you to track your movement, waypoints, and routes using downloaded maps. Easy to use when paired to your cell phone, using garmin explore app.

Love my InReach Mini
I have had it many years. I pay the monthly fee to give my spouse peace of mind that I can text from anywhere. If I never have to use the emergency functions, that is fine. I know it is there if I need it.

Inreach mini
I purchased this for hunting trips , 1 St time used it set all went well , got up to my hunt area in AZ ,I know I don't have cell service up there as far back as I hike backwoods , the 1st morning I sent a text out to my wife letting her know all was good , after that she received nothing, I had it on tracking she got no up dates , or my evening text it said no GPS. So I hiked and drove out to get cell service called her from my phone , I shut off the mini and sits in my closet , was disappointed and maybe it was me but don't think so .
