Fantastic Jacket
I love the colors and style of this jacket, it is unique and very recognizable. It keeps me warm on cold days but it is lightweight and perfect for hiking or travel. The zip pockets are a great feature as well. The fit is true to size, but it can get a little tight in the chest when zipped if you have broad shoulders and chest. I am 5 foot 7 and normally wear a medium/large depending on brand, but sized up to a large for a better fit when zipped up. You can't go wrong with this jacket
Fantastic asthetic and fit but not warm enough
This jacket looks fastastic. I really like the colors and the fit. I have a muscular build and this fits nice. There is a decent range of motion available for activities like climbing. Sadly the three star review is based on the fact that it is just not warm enough. In 40 degree weather I could feel the cold through the arms of the jacket. The torso area seems fine but cold just cuts right through else where. If you are in extreme cold and layering this would work well as a layer. If you are going to use this as a hiking jacket/winter look else where. This will work well for fall/sping but just not actual cold which is a disappointment. I have plenty of those jackets so sadly this will be retuned.
Inferior construction
Less than a month after purchasing, sleeve stitching is coming apart, where it attaches to shoulder. Barely worn. Will be returning.
Pass the puffer please!
The Capa Insulated Hooded Puffer Jacket seems to be Cotopaxi's quintessential brand piece. This jacket definitely checks all the boxes, warm, comfortable, durable, functional, fashionable, and affordable! A definite Cotopaxi "must buy", due to it's versatile in various climates. The only slight negative is that I wish it was a little bit fuller with the filling, or more puff! The fabric can have this slight wrinkle to it because of the amount of fluff added. I mean, if I'm looking to buy a puff piece, give me puff, right!? I think visually it would look a little more dynamic if it had a fuller fill to the puff, bit that's the only thing I would want to adjust.
Awesome..Until...
I bought this jacket because I need one with a hood. I love and own several Patagonia products so I decided to try a different brand. Cotopaxi is about comparable in price to Patagonia and their commitment to sustainability and doing good has gotten them a great reputation. I sadly have an allergy to down and have to buy synthetic, so this jacket stood out. The first time I used it in cold weather I immediately noticed how warm it kept me while I was wearing only a base layer. Now, for the bad part: after coming home from my trip, I noticed a small tear on the back towards the bottom where some of the filling was now coming out. We weren't doing anything intense on this trip, no boulder hopping or anything, just regular activity. I couldn't remember doing anything that might have caused a tear in the spot it was located in except maybe getting back into the van to drive home. Yet, somehow I managed to tear a hole in this brand new jacket. I have a Patagonia nanopuff jacket that I have put through some serious activity and it definitely is showing signs of wear, but it has never ripped. I question the quality of Cotopaxi products but I'm willing to give them another shot. So, here comes the worst part: I bought Cotopaxi because of the guarantee they offer for the life of the product. Their website states that they will repair, replace, credit for return, or reward for trade-in. Upon submitting a claim, they replied saying that they would send me a patch to repair the hole myself. So what they mean by "repair" does not mean sending the product back to the company for THEM to repair. What it actually means is that they will send materials for YOU to do the repair. Now, I am all about DIY fixes but this is clearly not stated in their terms and conditions. So be advised, you may have to do repairs to their products yourself. I ended up returning the jacket to REI and exchanging it for a new one. Hopefully this one is more durable than the previous one.
Mt. Whitney
The jacket kept me warm during my recent Sept Mt. Whitney hike. Outside temp was cold at trail camp. Didn't affect me with the jacket on. Comfortable in the pits and arms as I was striding with my poles. Folded down small in my pack.
Decent, but wait for a sale.
Light weight, comfortable jacket. I would wear this jacket on chilly evenings that are in the mid 50s. Does not have any inside pockets which I felt was a bit of a miss for a “technical” jacket. Made in China(like mostly everything). At $235, you might look for other options. I grabbed this on sale.
Warm enough
Excellent jacket, very light, easy to store, and best of all kept me warm at about 30 degrees weather.
Premium price without premium features
Stylish colors but jacket is missing some basic premium features and design flaws. The jacket has no drawstring on the hood, no exterior front pocket, and no inside pockets. The sleeves are like stove pipes meaning that they are straight and do not taper at all, causing them to be tighter than comfortable on the upper arm and bulky down at the wrist. I am usually a small but purchased a medium to layer with a sweater. Even without a sweater, the medium still feels tight through the back when arm motions are exaggerated. With the exception of the excess material at the wrists, it is a good looking jacket.
Pockets
I bought the men’s version of this jacket (S) for the color way and the pockets: In one pocket I can fit two full sized breakfast burritos and two bananas and still have room for my hand. -Packs down into a small dry bag. -Nice for temps in the 40s-50s. -Doesn’t breathe well in higher temperatures.
