Sea to Summit  Ultralight Insulated Air Sleeping Pad

I've used this pad for about four years now. I wanted to write this review to clear up some of the low ratings. First of all, rating a pad low due to the size of it not meeting your expectations is silly, as you should have just read the listed dimensions of the pad first. Its an ultralight pad (its in the name!) so of course its going to be narrow to save on weight. I'm 6'2" and a side sleeper and I fit on this pad fine. I do put my pillow/filled stufff sack off the pad to give myself extra room but I read the dimensions first so I expected this, since I know my height. As for noise, yes it squeaks and crunches when you move, but I honestly don't think its that bad. ALL ultralight pads are loud, as they aren't coated with soft material and are made with lightweight materials to save weight. For being ultralight, this pad is great. Its the only pad I've been comfortable on as a side sleeper, the design really does well dispersing weight. It inflates very quick and deflates basically instantly. I can roll it up incredibly small which is great for backpacking. I also appreciate it's durability. It doesn't feel delicate, I've even thrown it straight onto dirt and rocks while camping at the base of a Sierra peak to get an early start on a climb and have never had a puncture. Warmth wise, it keeps me warm down to about 25-30 degrees F, which is what the rating is consistent with, after that I usually use a thermarest foam pad under it. Great pad, the reviews are being harsh.

I work and sleep outdoors and spend almost every night on the ground. Bikepacking and mountaineering is how i spend most of my outdoor recreation time. This is my second STSULI pad. The first lasted 91 consecutive nights before it started leaking at the welds. This is a sign of certain doom for an air pad. Previously, i owned rei brand mattresses. Durability is not a property of rei air mattresses, thus I was grateful for the positive qualities and 91 nights of durability of the STS mattress. I figured that i would just have to spend a few hundred dollars a year because mattress welds are dodgy. However, after the leaky STS pad, i bought another because the first was light, warm, easy to use, packs kinda small and it wasn't very noisy. I used it in the desert and in the Rockies and Sierras backcountry. To my surprise the new pad has lasted for 274 consecutive nights, SO FAR, and it has just begun to leak at the valve. The leak is minor. The provided spare valve doesn't fix the problem but I expect a few more weeks before it deflates to a point where i am touching the ground in the morning. As long as the welds hold I am completely happy with this mattress. So the new STSULI pad that i am about to buy will be the tie breaker for me and if it works as well as the one that i have now, I will come back and up the rating constellation to 5 stars. In the spirit of full disclousure, i note that the pad is noisy but that doesn't bother me at all. i think noise is an air mattress thing and others in my cohort all have noisy pads also. .
